Irrigation improves the productivity of agriculture in any country. Irrigation is viewed as a fundamental approach to ensure food security, improve crop productivity, income of smallholder farmers, ensure food security, alleviate poverty and improve the economy of the farming community by generating additional income. As a result, the goal of this study was to identify prospective irrigated lands for agricultural land management in the Wanka watershed in northwestern Ethiopia using geospatial technology and multi-criteria decision-making analysis. Identifying sites for surface irrigation for agricultural land management is not a simple task, which needs consideration of many criteria such as slope, soil texture, soil depth, soil drainage, land use/land cover and distance from the water supply were used to determine the best possible location. Each factor was categorized into highly suitable, moderately suitable, marginally suitable and currently not suitable. The final result showed that the watershed had a high opportunity for surface irrigation. About 498 km2 of the watershed's total area is potentially suitable for surface irrigation, whereas the remaining 443 km2 is not. In the research area, there is sufficient land area accessible for surface irrigation development if those locations with highly suitable to marginally suitable areas are properly utilized.

Interpolation accuracy of the soil carbon-to-nitrogen ratio (C/N) has a direct impact on soil maps for agricultural land management planning, affecting the financial gains of farmers and environmental contamination. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of different ordinary kriging parameters on the interpolation accuracy and spatial variability of soil C/N. These values were necessary to determine the effect of potential soil C/N deficiency on five major crops in the study area during 2017–2019, containing maize, wheat, sunflower, rapeseed and soybean parcels. The Gaussian model with logarithmic transformation produced the higher outer accuracy, representing the prediction accuracy. Average values of final soil C/N rasters resulted as 11.35 at 0–10 cm soil depth and 12.60 at 20–30 cm soil depth, representing values 11.0% higher at a deeper soil layer. The moderate soil N deficiency was observed for all major crops, having soil C/N values mainly higher than 12:1, compared to the optimal value range of 9:1 to 12:1. These observations suggest a need for the adjustment of agricultural land management plans through the regionalization of agricultural production to prevent further soil degradation and ensure optimal crop development conditions.

The accident at the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant has raised questions about the accumulation of radionuclides in soils, the transfer in the foodchain and the possibility of continued restricted future land use. This paper summarizes what is generally understood about the application of agricultural countermeasures as a land management option to reduce the radionuclides transfer in the food chain and to facilitate the return of potentially affected soils to agricultural practices in areas impacted by a nuclear accident.

Fundamental reforms are being carried out in many spheres of the national economy in our republic. In particular, the development of the agricultural sector in the liberated territories is one of the main goals today. It is very important to reorganize the agrarian sector on the basis of the adopted laws, to use lands efficiently, and to organize agricultural land management in a modern form. The article studied the agrochemical properties of meadow-gray soils in the territory of Aghdam region and determined that the 0-100 cm layer of soils is poorly supplied with common and active forms of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium elements.
