Internet has revolutionized the technological era, which has a significant impact on us by making communication much better not only with the living beings but also with non-living things through the medium of internet of things (IoT). Thus, this topic highlights how internet of things can minimize user intervention in controlling home appliances and monitoring its setting. Integrating IoT with cloud computing and web service helps us in providing feasibility in accessing home appliances (i.e., monitoring appliances and measuring home condition). The whole process of integration aims to create an intelligent system. Thus, smart home is one of the application of IoT aimed at improving comfort, safety, and wellbeing within our homes.

Development of microprocessor technology provides new ideas for creating smart devices, one of which is in the field of smart home. Smart home is a concept of a home integrated with a smart system and supported by technology that enables all work to be more effective and efficient. Mirror is a household device that is beneficial to humans. In this paper, a research on smart mirrors is explained. A smart mirror is a mirror integrated with an intelligent system so that it can display multimedia data originating from the internet using Raspberry as a computing tool, PIR sensor as a tool to control monitors, and DC fans as a tool to control temperature system. In this paper, the mirror was able to display information about time, weather, academic calendar, lab work schedules, prayer schedules, and academic news. A PIR sensor has a good accuracy when the device is placed at 180 cm above the ground and the distance between mirror and humans when mirroring is 70 cm. A DC fan was utilized to stabilize the system temperature in a range of 40 to 50 oC.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to explain, in brief, about smart, intelligent system which actively monitors the wellness of the elderly and will also send necessary alarms to the caretakers or doctors during an emergency because nowadays most of elderly people wish to stay alone independently. It is necessary to monitor their health conditions and activities continuously to prevent occurrence of health problems and also be able to provide medical assistance to them during emergencies. Design/methodology/approach The review paper describes the development of a methodology to monitor elderly continuously with a combination of advanced intelligent sensors, networking technologies and data processing system. Findings This paper identified various sensors used in smart home such as a pressure sensor, temperature sensor, etc., for monitoring elders health and their characteristics and also the cost, model number, etc., of various sensors available in the market. Originality/value This paper contains the comparison of various sensors available in the market that can be used in the smart home and also where we can use those sensors in smart home based on their characteristics.

The practical increase of interest in intelligent technologies has caused a rapid development of all activities in terms of sensors and automatic mechanisms for smart operations. The implementations concentrate on technologies which avoid unnecessary actions on user side while examining health conditions. One of important aspects is the constant inspection of the skin health due to possible diseases such as melanomas that can develop under excessive influence of the sunlight. Smart homes can be equipped with a variety of motion sensors and cameras which can be used to detect and identify possible disease development. In this work, we present a smart home system which is using in-built sensors and proposed artificial intelligence methods to diagnose the skin health condition of the residents of the house. The proposed solution has been tested and discussed due to potential use in practice.

In this Digital age, a rapid advancement in rise of both communication and information technologies provide many services by incorporating intelligent system of automated health assessment of resident welfare. This is achieved by tracking elderly persons activities using smart home technologies and with this activity-based learning, it helps to discover individuals suffering from early stage of Alzheimer can be predicted without distributing their living style. The main purpose of this paper is to use two different domains of datasets for predicting the alzheimer’s in elderly person during its initial stage. Thus, this work uses ubiquitous computing technologies like smart home dataset which collects the daily activities of individuals and as the clinical dataset for prediction of alzheimer’s. The objective of this proposed work is to handle the hesitancy of uncertainty by introducing intelligent intuitionistic fuzzy classifier, which inhibits irrelevant rule generation by acquiring the knowledge of elephant swarm behavior (IIF-ESB). Using elephant swarm search behavior, the rules generated by intuitionistic fuzzy are finetuned to ovoid overfitting problem and thus it eliminates the irrelevant rules. The selected potential rules highly influence the accuracy rate of the prediction model in presence of uncertainty. Performance result of the proposed model (IIF-ESB) proved that with the ability to handle the impreciseness in prediction of alzheimer’s, the usage of degree of hesitancy and intelligent of elephant swarm searching behaviour increases the accurate prediction rate and decrease the misclassification rate considerably while compared with existing prediction models.
