Contemporary Nigeria has witnessed monumental rise in crime wave and in the quest to stem the tide, government has adopted various security policies to secure the lives and property of its citizens in the past, but none of these policies have actually yielded positive results. Human abduction, armed robbery, terrorism, bomb attacks and lots more have been the order of the day in the Country. The study seeks to ascertain the impact of closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras in Abuja metropolis. Six research questions and two hypotheses were formulated to guide the study, related literatures were adequately reviewed. A population of size of 900 was selected out of which a sample size of 300 respondents, which cut across all walks of life, participated in the study. Structured questionnaire was designed and used as instrument for data collection. Data collected were analyzed using direct interpretation of results gotten from respondents. Findings of the research revealed significant relationship between closed circuit television cameras and theory of deterrence, criminal justice, fear of crime, legality, policy formation and regulation of closed circuit television (CCTV). The development of software that can be integrated with the CCTV to display a person’s bio-data on the monitor when captured by the CCTV camera is among other recommendations for further research study.

This study was carried out to determine the skills required by electronics craftsmen for utilization of closedcircuit television (CCTV) for job security in Enugu State. Three research questions and three null hypotheses were formulated for the study. The population for the study was 50 respondents which included 35 electronics craftsmen and 15 technologists in Enugu State. All the 50 respondents were used for the study without sampling as a result of the relatively small population size. A 27 items statement questionnaire developed based on the research questions and reviewed literature were used as instrument for data collection. Data collected were analyzed using mean and standard deviation while t-test was used to test the three null hypotheses at .05 level of significance and appropriate degree of freedom. The study revealed that electronics craftsmen installation, maintenance and entrepreneurship skills are required by electronics craftsmen for utilization of closed-circuit television (CCTV) for job security in Enugu State. It was therefore recommended that electronic craftsmen should acquire adequate skills such as installation, maintenance and entrepreneurship which will help them to function sustainably in the area of CCTV and Government should conduct sensitization campaign in collaboration with technical education institutions to sensitize technical college students on the need to acquire skills for effective utilization of CCTV for job security in Enugu State.

Drawing on a recent study of the impact of closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras on policing practices in a large English police force, this paper considers whether the presence of surveillance cameras affects the working attitudes and behaviour of individual police officers. In particular, this paper asks whether CCTV makes the police more accountable or more cautious in the exercise of their discretion in public spaces. Although noting that in certain circumstances CCTV may inadvertently help to reduce incidences of police misconduct, this paper concludes by arguing that more needs to be done to prevent the police from interfering with the operation of CCTV and gaining unauthorised access to potentially incriminating video evidence.

There is continuous debate on the impact of house quality on residents’ health and well-being. Good living environment improves health, and fear of crime is recognised as a mediator in the relationship between physical environment and health. Since minimal studies have investigated the relationship, this study aims to examine the impact of the house quality on fear of crime and health. A total of 230 households from a residential neighbourhood in Malaysia participated in the study. Using structural equation modelling, the findings indicate that housing quality and fear of crime can account for a proportion of the variance in residents’ self-rated health. However, there is no significant relationship between housing quality and fear of crime. Results also show that fear of crime does not mediate the relationship between housing quality and health. This study suggests that the environment-fear relationship should be re-examined theoretically.
