Self-tapping screws are commonly used to connect critical structural components, such as legs to rails in chair construction, using laminated bamboo lumber (LBL) materials. The loosening of a connection is commonly seen in self-tapping screwed LBL connections before actual breakage of connections happens. The loosening of connections, especially those associated with chair legs, can significantly affect chair stability. Current furniture performance test standards have not address this issue, i.e., the minor loosening of a connection is not treated as a failure in the current standard because of the lack of better understanding the load-rotation-time behavior of various connections subjected to the cyclical loads. The effects of cyclic loading magnitude and orientation on the load-rotation-time behavior of L-shaped, end-to-side, single self-tapping screwed LBL connections were investigated. Results indicated that the Burger and Kelvin models could be used to describe the cyclic and recovery behavior of studied connections. Increasing the cyclic loading magnitude resulted in a decreasing trend for all viscoelastic constants. The most significant decrease in all viscoelastic constants occurred when the cyclic loading magnitude applied to connections increased from 50 to 60% of its corresponding ultimate static resistance loads.

This paper describes the structural analysis, load tests and combined stress of the bogie frame. It seeks to identify the structural safety of the bogie frame when the bogie is assembled on the train and a train service is implemented. The bogie consists of the bogie frame, suspension, wheels, brakes and transmission, etc. The bogie frame can be considered as the most important part of the bogie. The analysis and tests were evaluated using JIS E 4207 standards and performance test standards for urban rail vehicles.

Abstract Heat exchanger is a device that transfers heat between hot and cold fluids. Due to the different size and type, the actual heat transfer performance is usually not the same as the design value. Meanwhile, various heat exchangers using new types of heat transfer elements have emerged, bringing the difficulty to obtain the heat transfer performance by only theoretical calculation. Therefore, studying test methods and developing test standards for heat exchangers have become the research focus in many countries. In this paper, the basic principles of various performance test methods are firstly introduced, including Wilson plot method, equal Reynolds number method and nonlinear fitting method. Then the restrictions on the use of these methods and the factors affecting the test results are analyzed. Finally, the Chinese codes and standards of performance testing for heat exchangers are listed, including JB/T 10379-2002, GB/T 27698-2011 and TSG R0010-2019. The test methods used in GB/T 27698 are described in detail. The results show that GB 27698 mainly focus on the specification of testing systems and procedures and can test heat transfer performance of almost all types of heat exchangers in industry under different heat transfer modes. However, there are lack of formulas and methods for calculating uncertainty of testing results.

This paper presents and discusses the experimental study on the mechanical properties of LBL column both under axial and eccentric compression. The results shows that the ultimate load for the eccentric compression specimens with the eccentricity values of 30 mm and 110 mm are 95.2 kN and 31.8 kN respectively. Eccentricity is one of the main influencing factors for the ultimate bearing capacity of the LBL columns. Because of the vulnerability of the mechanical connections or natural nodes to tensile stress and secondly, laminated bamboo is vulnerable to defects that has more detrimental influence on the tensile resistance of the material. The variation in strain for the laminated bamboo lumber column sections is linear throughout the loading process, following standard normal section bending theory which is similar as that for the beam.

Bamboo is a kind of green material with high specific strength, while the hollow tubular structure makes it rather hard to be utilized in structure. Glue and hot-pressing processes make laminated bamboo lumber rectangular cross section and with high strength properties. The dowel-type connection can be used in I-joist instead of the costly adhesive, while the behaviors of which are extremely complicated. European yield model is confirmed to be an effective method to estimate loading capacity of connection and is adopted by various standard and design codes. This article focused on a kind of connection innovatively with laminated bamboo lumber dowel. The embedment tests were carried out to study the embedment strength of laminated bamboo lumber members. Connection tests under lateral load were conducted to investigate the performance and loading capacity. Finally, theoretical results determined by design rules in current codes were compared with experimental results
