Abstract: The objective of the present is to investigate hollow glass microspheres (HGMs) experimentally and carry out design analysis of hollow glass microsphere loaded PP/ABS composites. The tensile and notched Charpy impact test of HGM-filled acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene copolymer (ABS) and Polypropylene (PP) composites will be studied with varying the concentrations of PP/ABS composite with HGM. Also further the design analysis will be studied by conducting the simulation under the same criteria and comparing the results at the end. This is done to introduce a light weight material without compromising specific strength of PP/ABS composite by adding HGM to the composite. Keywords: Hollow Glass Microsphere (HGM), ABS-Acrylonitrile butadiene styrene, PP- Polypropylene, Composites.

The content of titanium is about 0.63% in the earth’s crust, and it ranks 10th among all elements. The content of titanium is next to the metal elements of aluminum, iron and magnesium, iron, and magnesium; titanium alloys have low density, high specific strength (the ratio of tensile strength to density), wide working range (−253°C–600°C), and excellent corrosion resistance melting point; the chemical activity of titanium alloy is very high, and it easily reacts with hydrogen, oxygen, and nitrogen, so it is difficult to be smelted and processed, and the processing cost is high. Titanium alloys also have poor thermal conductivity (only 1/5 of iron and 1/15 of aluminum), small deformation coefficient, large friction coefficient, and other characteristics. They are widely used in aircraft fuselage, gas turbine, petrochemical, automotive industry, medical, and other fields for important parts.

Composite materials obtained through powder metallurgy methods are increasingly applied in various industries, particularly in aviation and rocket and space equipment which use their high specific strength, resistance to high temperatures and other properties. Producers of composite materials use various metallic and non-metallic materials (fibres and powders) as fillers [1-2]. For example, the high plasticity (moldability) of aluminium powders allows utilizing them as a matrix material in moulding of composites using various methods of rolling, extrusion, and intense plastic deformation [3-5]. However, the widespread use of chip as a raw material for the production of composites is hampered by the complexities in obtaining powders with granules of the necessary shape and size.

Introduction: The increasingly popular microbiopsy is an appealing alternative to the more invasive Bergström biopsy given the challenges associated with harvesting skeletal muscle in older populations. Parameters of muscle fiber morphology and composition derived from the microbiopsy have not been compared between young and older adults.Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine muscle fiber morphology and composition in young (YM) and older (OM) males using the microbiopsy sampling technique. A secondary aim was to determine if specific strength is associated with serum levels of C-terminal agrin fragment [CAF; an indicator of neuromuscular junction (NMJ) degradation].Methods: Thirty healthy, YM (n = 15, age = 20.7 ± 2.2 years) and OM (n = 15, age = 71.6 ± 3.9 years) underwent ultrasound imaging to determine whole-muscle cross-sectional area (CSA) of the vastus lateralis and rectus femoris as well as isometric and isokinetic (60°⋅s–1 and 180°⋅s–1) peak torque testing of the knee extensors. Microbiopsy samples of the vastus lateralis were collected from 13 YM and 11 OM, and immunofluorescence was used to calculate CSA and proportion of type I and type II fibers. Results: Peak torque was lower in OM at all velocities (p ≤ 0.001; d = 1.39–1.86) but only lower at 180°⋅s–1 (p = 0.003; d = 1.23) when normalized to whole-muscle CSA. Whole-muscle CSA was smaller in OM (p = 0.001; d = 1.34), but atrophy was not present at the single fiber level (p > 0.05). Per individual, ∼900 fibers were analyzed, and type I fiber CSA was larger (p = 0.05; d = 0.94) in OM which resulted in a smaller type II/I fiber CSA ratio (p = 0.015; d = 0.95). CAF levels were not sensitive to age (p = 0.159; d = 0.53) nor associated with specific strength or whole-muscle CSA in OM.Conclusion: The microbiopsy appears to be a viable alternative to the Bergström biopsy for histological analyses of skeletal muscle in older adults. NMJ integrity was not influential for age-related differences in specific strength in our healthy, non-sarcopenic older sample.

Lightweight parts manufactured by metal selective laser melting (SLM) are widely applied in machinery industries because of their high specific strength, good energy absorption effect, and complex shape that are difficult to form by mechanical machining. These samples often serve in three-dimensional stress states. However, previous publications mainly focused on the unidirectional tensile/compressive properties of the samples. In this paper, AlMgSc samples with different geometric parameters were prepared by the SLM process, and the variation of force and microstructure during three-point bending were systematically investigated. The results demonstrate that the deformation resistance of these samples has good continuity without mutation in bending, even for brittle materials; the bending force-displacement curves exhibit representative variation stages during the entire bending process; the equivalent bending strength deduced from free bending formula is not applicable when compactability is less than 67%. The variations of grain orientation and size of the three representative bending layers also show regularity.

Ti-based metallic glasses (MGs) possess high specific strength, low elastic modulus, high elasticity, high wear and corrosion resistance, and excellent biocompatibility, which make them highly attractive as lightweight high-strength materials as well as biomaterials. However, the glass forming ability (GFA) of Ti-based MGs, particularly those bearing no toxic, noble, or heavy metals, that is, Be, Pd, or Cu alike, largely sets back their wide applications for the restricted critical glass forming size of these Ti-based MGs. In this review, the outlines in developing Ti-based MGs are delineated in order to provide an overall view on the efforts ever made to fabricate bulk size Ti-based MGs. The state of the art in the knowledge on the GFA of Ti-based MGs is briefly introduced, and possible directions for fabricating bulk size toxic and noble element free Ti-based MGs are discussed.

Titanium alloy is an important metal material with excellent specific strength, which is widely used in aerospace field, nuclear industry, chemical medicine, and military industry. In order to investigate the connection conditions of TC4 titanium alloy and 316L stainless steel at different temperatures, the braze welding measurement with Ti57Zr13Cu21Ni9 filler metal was conducted in vacuum. The microstructure, morphology and phase of the joint were characterized by SEM (scanning electron microscope), EDS (Energy Dispersive Spectrometer) and XRD (X-ray diffraction), respectively. Microhardness and shear strength of the joint at room temperature and the bonding mechanism of TC4 and 316L were also investigated. The obtained results revealed that the main phases in the diffusion layer were Ti-based solid solution and Ti-Fe (TiFe and TiFe2) intermetallic compoundsands (IMCs) the center of the braze was mainly composed of Ti-Fe IMCs, (Ti, Zr)2(Ni, Cu), Ti-based solid solution. Additionally, the increase of brazing temperature firstly increased and then decreased the average shear strength with the maximum value of 133.9 MPa at 960 °C.

Aluminium and its alloy are widely employed in various automobile and aircraft areas because of their unique specific strength and formability. Al alloys that have been employed in aerospace structural components will undergo dynamic loading, which leads to fatigue due to mechanical stress and thermal conditions. Considering studies toward the low cycle fatigue behaviour of Al alloys are significantly narrowed, this chapter sighted to the analysis of fatigue behaviour of Al 6063 alloy at the various total strain amplitude (TSA) of 0.4% and 0.8%, which performed through the low cycle fatigue testing machine at the frequency rate of 0.2 Hz. The test results show that for 0.4% TSA, the number of cycles to failure (N) is 1786, whereas as the TSA increases, N got reduced. For 0.8% TSA, the cycle to failure is 291 and samples undergone cyclic softening during the test. The rate of cyclic plastic strain raised up with the increase in the TSA. Crack propagation was observed along with the quasi-cleavage fracture for 0.4% TSA and cleavage fracture for 0.8% TSA.

The work shows the possibility of manufacturing products for rocket and space technology using the additive FDM-printing technology. The object of research is the nozzle plugs of the "membrane" type. Considering the specific-strength properties of the product during its operation during operation, as well as the features of the FDM-process, the design was optimized, the regularities of the formation of its properties were established. An impregnation technology has been developed to seal the product. The equipment was designed, and pneumatic tests were carried out. The properties of materials were investigated considering their guaranteed shelf life for 12 years of operation under accelerated climatic tests. It is shown that the production of products by FDM-printing methods is promising and expedient, since the properties being formed are predictable, achievable, and stable.
