The Role of Animosity, Religiosity, and Allocentrism in Shaping Purchase Intention through Ethnocentrism and Brand Image

With the long history of the relationship between Indonesia and China, various sentiments may arise and influence the consumer purchasing decision. This study aims to determine the impact of animosity towards China, religiosity, and allocentrism of the Indonesians on the intention to purchase Chinese brands smartphones, mediated by consumer ethnocentrism and brand image. This study has 215 valid responses and was carried out using SPSS 25. Structural Equation Modelling (SEM) was performed using AMOS 22. The results show that consumer ethnocentrism is significantly influenced by animosity, religiosity, and allocentrism. Brand image can mediate between consumer ethnocentrism and purchase intention. This study gives a better understanding of Indonesian consumer ethnocentrism with animosity towards China, religiosity, and allocentrism, which will affect the Chinese brand image and Indonesians’ intention to purchase the product.

Purpose This paper aims to examine the role of religiosity on consumers’ forgiveness when celebrities get involved in transgression. The celebrity’s reaction and its impact on consumers’ forgiveness is tested as well. In addition, consumers’ attitudes towards the brand and celebrity as well as purchase intention for the endorsed brand are examined both before and after the transgression. Design/methodology/approach Data (n = 356) were collected through a self-administered online survey and analysed though structural equation modelling in AMOS 26. Findings The results show that consumers’ attitude towards celebrity, brand and purchase intention gets weaker once the celebrity gets into transgression. Consumers tend to forgive more if the celebrity apologises (vs denies) for the wrongdoing. The hypothesised relationship between attitude towards celebrity and purchase intention did not sustain after the transgression. In addition, consumers’ intrinsic religiosity strengthens the relationship between attitude towards the celebrity and purchase intention. Practical implications The findings of this research present valuable implications for brands practitioners. Brands should formulate actionable contingency plans to mitigate the negative ramifications of celebrity transgressions. Specifically, intrinsic religiosity and celebrity apologies should assist consumers in forgiving the transgression and negate the implications that could have arisen if the celebrity instead denied the transgressions. Originality/value This research extends the previous research by examining religiosity and forgiveness within the context of celebrity transgressions. To the best of the authors’ knowledge, this is one of the first few research studies to consider the role religiosity plays in consumers’ intention to forgive celebrity transgressions.

We examined the factors affecting consumer purchase intention of a cosmetic product after the Fukushima nuclear incident and the role of distinctiveness in postcrisis recovery. Through a 2-group experiment and structural equation modeling, we found that the incident did not affect the firm's reputation and brand image but it was perceived as a significant threat to health and product safety that consequently negatively affected purchasing intentions. Findings also showed that high distinctiveness is a valid factor in diminishing the impact of crisis. In particular, a firm's reputation and indirect effects on revenue are least affected by, or even positively related to distinctiveness. We have included discussion of the critical implications for firms around the importance of maintaining desirable relationships with the public as preparation for a crisis and for rapid postcrisis recovery.

This research aims to investigate whether outsourcing mediates the impact of dynamic strategic capabilities on strategic entrepreneurship. The population of the research consists of top managers in five stars hotels. A sample of 215 respondents were selected for the research in which 186 questionnaires were valid for statistical analysis. Structural equation modelling (SEM) was used to test the hypotheses of the research. The results of the research indicate that outsourcing does not mediate the relationship between dynamic strategic capabilities and strategic entrepreneurship. All the dimensions of dynamic strategic capabilities have a statistical impact on strategic entrepreneurship, while the dynamic strategic capabilities dimension all affect outsourcing except the seizing capability. Based on the research results, managers and decision-makers have to focus on innovation functions by enhancing the role of knowledge management and R&D activities, as well as concentrate on employees training programs.

Purposes of this research are: (i) to find out the influence of brand image toward customer satisfaction (ii) to find out the influence of customer satisfaction toward brand loyalty (iii) to find out the influence of brand image toward brand loyalty and (iv) to find out the role of customer satisfaction as a mediating variable between brand image and brand loyalty. Structural Equation Modelling (SEM) was developed to answer the research problems. The number of respondent was 150 which was collected through offline and online self-administered questionnaire. There were 13 indicators used to measure each construct. The results show that (i) brand image positively and significanly influence customer satisfaction, (ii) customer satisfaction positively and significantly influenced brand loyalty, (iii) brand image did not influence brand loyalty, and (iv) customer satisfaction did not mediate the relationship between brand image toward brand loyalty. The article proposes a conceptual model based on social media advertising, which examines the impact of some identified antecedents such as entertainment, informativeness, credibility, incentives, pre- purchase search motivation and social escapism motivation on attitude towards social media advertising and further see the impact on purchase intention. A quantitative approach of research was adopted, where data was collected using a self-administered questionnaire from 472 Indian social media users. The scales adapted from the previous studies were validated using exploratory factor analysis (EFA) and then two-step structural equation modelling (SEM) was applied which included confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) followed by hypothesis testing in AMOS 22.0. The results indicated a significant role of informativeness, entertainment, credibility, incentives, pre- purchase search motivation and social escapism motivation in predicting attitudes towards social media advertising, further purchase intention was significantly predicted by attitudes towards social media advertising.

In this work, we investigate the relationship between solitude andauthentic leadership development. Despite the work of previous researchersin the field of Authentic Leadership (e.g. Avolio et al., 2004; Avolio &Gardner, 2005) and Solitude (e.g. Long, 2003; Long & Averill, 2003, Burger,1995), there has been no systematic connection between these two conceptsso far. Therefore, we propose a conceptual framework, which describesthe role of solitude as a mediating mechanism, leading from Inner Search toAuthentic Leadership development. Next, we apply this framework empirically in a large panel of firmsand a sample of 140 managers and 375 subordinates, by means of FactorAnalysis and Structural Equation Modelling (S.E.M.). Results indicate thatsolitude does, indeed, fully mediate the effect of Inner Search on AuthenticLeadership.

The current study was designed to observe the impact of consumer ethnocentrism and brand personality on purchase intention, perceived quality and brand trust in the Pakistani clothing market. Famous Pakistani clothing brands were selected to examine the impact of consumer ethnocentrism and brand personality on purchase intention, evaluation of the product and brand trust. 300 questionnaires were distributed to consumers. The response rate was 90%. The sample comprised 52.2% males and 47.8% females. Two-level Structural Equation Modelling using LISREL 8.80 was employed to determine the convergent and discriminant validity. The study has concluded that Pakistani consumers are highly ethnocentric and ethnocentrism strongly affects purchase intention of domestic brands among Pakistani customers. The research found that brand image has a greater effect on purchase intention, perceived quality and brand trust than consumer ethnocentrism. Results also demonstrate that quality, as perceived by consumers, influences purchase intention which indicates that alone, brand personality and consumer ethnocentrism tendencies do not guarantee sales of local brands. This study puts both consumer ethnocentrism and brand personality into one model to access its role on consumer behavior. The results of the research can assist domestic marketers to comprehend the role of consumer ethnocentrism propensity and brand personality in purchasing domestic products, quality perception and building trust among young customers. To the best of the researchers’ knowledge, it is one of the pioneer studies in the context of Pakistan that casts light on the significance of ethnocentrism in evaluating domestic products by contributing to the literature of marketing.

This study aims to investigate the impact of sponsorship events on the purchase intent of attendees, mediated by brand image. For the purpose of this study, attendee's purchase intention is treated as a dependent variable and brand image as a mediated variable. Independent variables are: brand awareness, attitude towards the event and event-sponsor fit. The study relied on collecting primary data through a self-prepared questionnaire. In total (400) questionnaires were distributed randomly to the sponsoring event attendees who could be reached by the researcher. Response rate was (96.75) percent.<strong> </strong>The results revealed all the variables under investigation have a significant effect on attendee’s purchase intention. The major effect on the attendee’s purchase intention was for brand awareness followed by attitude towards the event, the weakest effect was for event–sponsor fit. While the major effect on the attendee’s perception of the sponsoring brand image was for attitude towards the event followed by brand awareness, the event–sponsor fit was excluded. Furthermore, it is found that brand image mediates the relationship between brand awareness, attitude towards the event and attendee’s purchase intention.

Purpose The purpose of this study is to investigate the impact of reputation on perceived value towards Muslim tourists’ booking intention on Airbnb, particularly from the Malaysian perspective. Additionally, this study investigates the moderating role of gender on the relationship between perceived value and guest booking intention. Design/methodology/approach This study considered the Stimulus–Organism–Response (S-O-R) theory to develop the research framework. Using a self-administered survey questionnaire, 156 completed and usable responses were obtained. The data were analysed by applying partial least squares–structural equation modelling technique, more specifically by using SmartPLS (version 3) software. Findings The study findings revealed that both reputation and perceived value positively affect Muslim tourists’ booking intention on Airbnb service. Moreover, it is also found that, gender plays a moderating role on guests’ intention to book accommodation on the Airbnb platform. Practical implications It is expected that the findings of this study can help the practitioners in the hospitality industry, particularly in strategising their marketing efforts to attract more tourists to engage in a meaningful relationship with the Airbnb in Malaysia. It is suggested that, the Airbnb hosts need to consider the reputation (stimulus) and perceived value (organism) in their marketing strategy to foster Muslim guests’ booking intention. Originality/value To the best of the authors’ knowledge, this work is among the first to examine the predictors of Muslim tourists’ booking intention on Airbnb. Moreover, very little is known on the moderating role of gender on perceived value and its association with booking intention, which this research attempts to address.

With the advent of the Internet and other digital technologies, contemporary businesses from all sectors are using social media for communication with consumers to engage them meaningfully with a brand. However, the use of social media for corporate social responsibility (CSR) communication is relatively new to the existing literature. Likewise, the impact of CSR communication through social media (CSR-S) on consumer emotions and behavior is, to date, underexplored. To address this, the present research aims to test the relationship of CSR-S on brand admiration and consumer purchase intention. The study proposes a direct relationship between CSR-S and purchase intention with a mediating effect of brand admiration. The data were collected from the banking consumers of Pakistan through a self-administered questionnaire. The authors distributed 800 questionnaires and received 463 questionnaires useful for data analysis, so the present research study response rate was around 59%. The data were analyzed using the structural equation modeling (SEM) technique in AMOS. The results revealed that CSR-S is positively related to purchase intention (β = 0.233). The results further showed that brand admiration partially mediates this relationship (β = 0.079). The survey respondents confirmed that their bank’s CSR communication helps enhance their purchase likelihood and their feelings of admiration for their bank. These findings will help policymakers at banking institutions better understand the importance of CSR communication on different social media platforms to achieve consumer-related outcomes.
