We report the first Colombian record of the Blind Snake Anomalepis mexicanus Jan, 1860, based on a single specimen from Cantagallo municipality, department of Bolívar. Our new record fills a large gap and extends this species’ geographical distribution by approximately 630 km in a straight line east-southeast from its nearest previously known Panamanian locality, and approximately 1295 km in a straight-line north-northeast from its nearest previously known Peruvian locality.

The original description of Thamnodynastes dixoni Bailey & Thomas, 2007 was based on few specimens, and the morphological variation, distributional range, and ecological aspects of this species are virtually unknown. The species is known to occur in the Llanos of Colombia and Venezuela. In Colombia, it was recorded only in four localities. We report a fifth occurrence of T. dixoni in Colombia and the first in the Department of Meta. The new record extends this species’ distribution nearly 150 km (in a straight line) from the nearest previously known occurrence at Paz de Ariporo, Department of Casanare. Additionally, we also provide comments about the species’ defensive behavior, not reported elsewhere, and a thorough revision on the species’ geographical distribution.

Ayerbe’s snail-eater Sibon ayerbeorum is a nocturnal, tree-dwelling snake which was recently described based on four specimens collected in the proximity of Munchique National Natural Park, department of Cauca, Colombia, above 1000 m altitude. We here expand the distribution range of S. ayerbeorum into the department of Chocó, Colombia. The new record extends the distributional range of the Ayerbe’s snail-eater by nearly 288 km in a straight-line north-western ward from its type locality and is more than 1000 m below it.

The genus Xenohyla is currently composed of two species, X. truncata (Izecksohn, 1959) and Xenohyla eugenioi Caramaschi, 1998. Both species are usually found inside bromeliads; X. truncata inhabits the restingas of the state of Rio de Janeiro, southeastern Brazil, and X. eugenioi transitional areas between the Atlantic Forest and the Caatinga biomes in northeastern Brazil. We report the first record of X. eugenioi in the state of Sergipe, expanding the species geographic distribution by 423.4 km in a straight line in relation to its type locality, in the municipality of Maracás, south-central state of Bahia, Brazil.

ABSTRACT Flower flies of the genus Cepa are endemic to the Neotropical region and Cepa apeca is currently known only from Costa Rica. Here we report the first record of C. apeca in Colombia based on a single female collected using a canopy trap in a dense secondary forest in a mountainous ecosystem in the locality of Vereda San Francisco, municipality of Florencia-Caquetá, at an altitude of 643 m.a.s.l. This finding constitutes the first record of the genus Cepa in Colombia and expands the geographic range of Cepa apeca by approximately 1,500 km (straight line) southwards to South America. Our finding represents the southernmost occurrence of the species and contributes to the incipient knowledge on the Diptera diversity in the Colombian Andean-Amazonian region.

The main purpose of our paper is to document genus Hydropsyche (Trichoptera: Hydropsychidae) in northwestern Algeria and to provide the larval descriptions of the species set. Larvae, pupae, and imagines were collected from 14 sampling sites over a five-year period (2014–2019). Eight Hydropsyche species have been identified, with Hydropsyche siltalai being a new record for Algeria and North Africa, and Hydropsyche pellucidula a new record for Algeria. A comparison of our checklist with those of the Moroccan Rif and Europe is provided, as well as the geographical distribution of each species. This Algerian Hydropsyche species revision provides precise and reliable taxonomic characters for distinguishing larvae of the species, and a taxonomic key is proposed for their identification. In addition, information regarding their distribution is included.

Hydaticus aequalis sp. n. is described from Brazil, where it was recently discovered in the central lowlands region of the Amazon forest. The new species differs from all other Neotropical congeners by its uniformly brown dorsal surface and the shape of medial lobe. The dorsal habitus and male genitalia are illustrated, and a distribution map is provided. The habitat, a small stream and associated forest pool, is illustrated and described. In addition, a new record of H. devexus Trémouilles, 1996, previously known from a single specimen, is reported from the highlands of northeastern Brazil, and a modified key to Neotropical species of the genus is provided.

Abstract: This work presents a floristic survey of the subfamilies Bombacoideae, Byttnerioideae, Grewioideae and Helicterioideae (Malvaceae s.l.) in the Raso da Catarina Ecoregion (RCE), Bahia, Brazil. The samples analyzed were collected from September 2013 to May 2015. The analyses were supplemented with dried collections kept in the herbaria: ALCB, HRB, HUEFS, HUNEB, HST, IPA, PEUFR, R and RB. The identifications were based mainly on specialized bibliographies, protologues, types and herbaria collections. Ten genera and 22 species of the subfamilies were recorded, nine endemic to Brazil. Waltheria L. was the most representative genus with five species, followed by Ceiba Mill. and Melochia L. with three species each, Helicteres L., Luehea Willd., Pachira Aubl. and Pseudobombax Dugand presented two species each and other genera were represented by one species each. Among the species recorded, Luehea candicans Mart. represents a new record for the Caatinga biome. The species most commonly found in the study area were Helicteres velutina K.Schum., Melochia tomentosa L., Waltheria brachypetala Turcz., W. indica L. and W. rotundifolia Schrank. The taxonomic treatment includes identification key, descriptions, illustrations, photos, geographical distribution, reproductive phenology and comments about all studied species. The genus Morinda L. (Rubiaceae) has been revised for its species diversity in the flora of Bangladesh. The genus is represented by five species, viz., M. angustifolia Roxb., M. citrifolia L., M. persicaefolia Ham., M. pubescens Smith and M. umbellata L. Of these, M. pubescens Smith is a new record for Bangladesh. A key to the species with vernacular names, descriptions, illustrations, photographs, ecology, uses, geographical distribution and status of occurrence in the flora is provided. Moringua edwardsi is recorded for the first time at Atol das Rocas, northeastern Brazil. Previous records of the species were located in the western Atlantic Ocean, from Florida to southeastern Brazil, but with many gaps between these regions. A single specimen was collected in Atol das Rocas in July 2007 and it is deposited in the Dias da Rocha Ichthyological Collection. The new record of M. edwardsi fills a geographic distribution gap of this species and complements the inventory of fish species inhabiting one of the most unique marine protected areas in the world.
