We provide the first record of Chiasmocleis supercilialbus for Brazil. Thre especimens were collected at Seringal Etelvi, Reserva Extrativista Chico Mendes, state of Acre, Brazil. This record extends the distribution of the species 200 km east from the type locality situated at Manu National Park, Manu River, Departamento Madre de Dios, Peru.

As a result of several surveys on the montane forests of southern Peru, we provide new distribution data for two arboreal toads (Anura: Bufonidae). An important distribution extension for Rhinella manu, outside of Manu National Park (Cusco department, Peru), location of the type locality, and the first record for Rhinella tacana in Peru, extending the distribution of both species by about 235 and 582 km (airline), respectively, are given herein.

A New Species

A new species of the serpulid genus Metavermilia Bush, 1905 and a new record of the genus Omphalopomopsis Saint-Joseph, 1894 are described from deep-sea lava rocks collected from 2,013 m at Cross Seamount, southwest of the Hawaiiarchipelago. Metavermilia zibrowii sp. nov., differs from its congeners mostly by the presence of a simple and concaveoperculum, extent of the thoracic membrane and tube morphology. Omphalopomopsis langerhansii (Marenzeller, 1885)is the type species of the genus and it is only known through its type specimen. This species is characterized by a simpleoperculum with a shallow convex calcareous endplate, cylindrical peduncle, presence of Apomatus chaetae and high num-ber of teeth in the thoracic uncini. This is the first record of this species outside the type locality and both genera are newly recorded for the Hawaiian Islands.

We report the first record of Pristimantis crucifer from Colombia. The new record from the Reserva Natural La Planada, department of Nariño, extends the species’ range north by 63 km from the nearest locality in Ecuador and 305 km from the type locality.

Impatiens tanintharyiensis (Balsaminaceae) is reported in Thailand for the first time from a population in Ngao Waterfall National Park, Ranong Province. This population differs from that at the type locality in Myanmar by having smaller, purple flowers (vs bigger purplish-pink flowers). An expanded description of this taxon and colour photographs are provided.

Rhagomys longilingua is one of the rarest sigmodontine rodents of South America, currently known from only 2 localities (4 individuals) in Peru and Bolivia. Here we report 3 additional localities in Peru, one of which extends the geographic distribution range of this species 613 km northeast from the type locality (Suecia, Manu National Park, Cusco department). Potential distribution models showed the presence of R. longilingua from Bolivia until Colombia along the eastern slope of the Andes.

Scinax tripui is a medium sized frog that belongs to the Scinax catharinae clade. We provide a new record of Scinax tripui from Serra de Torres, Espírito Santo state, southeastern Brazil. This is the first record outside the specie’s type locality (Ouro Preto, Minas Gerais) and the first record from the state of Espírito Santo.

A single male of Heraclides a. astyalus was collected in the Catimbau National Park, Buíque, Pernambuco, located in the semi-arid region of northeastern Brazil. It is the first record for the species in the Caatinga domain and the first record for the subspecies in latitudes above the São Francisco river.

The giant otter is an endangered South American carnivore with a facultatively cooperative social system that may be affected by local ecology. This chapter synthesises demographic data arising from a 16 year study of a population inhabiting patchily distributed and resource-rich oxbow lakes in the floodplain of Manu National Park, in the Department of Madre de Dios, Peru. It explores how giant otter group size and composition relates to territory size, and how reproductive success is affected by territory quality. The chapter concludes with a discussion on the implications of these findings for giant otter conservation in southeastern Peru, in the face of increased human/giant otter conflict; tourism; and mining, logging and agricultural pressures, and highlights the need for a giant otter habitat conservation corridor along the Madre de Dios River.

During a patrolling duty in Jigme Singye Wangchuck National Park (JSWNP) in Bhutan, a lone male Blue-and-white Flycatcher Cyanoptila cyanomelan was observed and photographed. This is the first photographic evidence and confirmation on presence of the species in Bhutan. These new record confirm an extension of the species’ distribution in the North East Indian Sub Continent. As this is new record to Bhutan, there could be other undetected incidence of migrant species occurrence in the country. More observation must be carried out during bird migration seasons to discover such instances.

This article provides a new record of Phyllodytes punctatus in Parque Nacional Serra de Itabaiana, municipality of Areia Branca, Sergipe, northeast Brazil. This point is the first record after the description of the species.
