(1) Background: Bruxism, a condition characterized by grinding and involuntary clenching of the teeth, is a risk factor for the development of masticatory dysfunction. It can occur together with sleep disturbances and may be associated with abnormal body movements, breathing difficulties, increased muscle activity, and heart rate disturbances. This disorder is becoming an important dental concern in children. (2) Methods: A literature review was carried out based on a search in PubMed and Google Scholar databases for articles on bruxism in children, published between 2014 and 2021. The etiology, diagnosis, and treatment of bruxism in children were of particular interest in the study. (3) Results: A total of 40 articles were included in the review. The analyzed studies indicated that the prevalence rates of bruxism in children vary widely from 13% to 49%. The etiology of bruxism is complex and incomprehensible, and the main diagnostic criteria for this condition in children are subjective observation, clinical history, and clinical examination. The recommended therapy for sleep bruxism in children is physiotherapy and psychotherapy. (4) Conclusions: Dentists and primary care physicians should correctly diagnose bruxism in children, educate parents, prevent potential consequences for oral health, and identify possible comorbidities. Appropriate clinical guidelines for the treatment and prophylaxis of bruxism in children should also be developed.

Choosing occlusion standards in dentures is a dilemma in oral rehabilitation, as it raises questions on which standard the dentist should use. This decision may influence the stability of the denture. Based on this problem, a literature review with articles published in the last five years, in search engines Pubmed.gov, Google Scholar and Scielo was performed. The keywords Prosthodontics, Occlusion and Edentulism were used. In this review, the articles on clinical trials and studies in silico, as well as relevant literature reviews were included. Although often the dentist may be resistant to use another type of occlusal pattern than balanced occlusion, it is important to emphasize advantages and disadvantages of occlusal arrangements in order to slow the residual ridge resorption and decrease muscle activity.

Palavras-Chave: peridontia, prótese em peridontia, Restaurações protéticas   ABSTRACT In this literature review the authors looked for scientific probes that would justify the prosthetic reconstruction of dental contours recommended by the majority of the authors. A large number of papers that relate self-clean-sing, stimulus and protection of periodontal tissue, and muscle activity to the natural teeth curvatures are based on clinical observations or on personal opinions. On the hand, papers proposing changing of the classic contour in prosthetic reconstructions are based on scientific reports related to the mechanical control of bacterial plaque. Althoug scientific evidences lead to the logical procedures of creating contours that could facilitate the mechanical removal of bacterial plaque, this procedure still needs controlled experimental probing. Keywords: periodontic, prosthesis in periodontic, Restores prosthetics.

This study sought to perform a review of the literature on the use of electromyography to assess postural load in dental work. The literature used in this review was obtained from databases and only articles published published between 1991 and 2019 were considered. The main keywords were “electromyography,” "working posture”, “ergonomics” and “muscle activity”. Each abstract was read to determine whether the information in the article included discussions on the use of electromyography to assess postural load in dental work (n=27). It was found that electromyography is beneficial to assess the influence of different devices used in dental work, however, as it has limitations, researchers must be aware of them to seek alternatives to circumvent them.

Computerized auditory training (CAT) is a convenient, low-cost approach to improving communication of individuals with hearing loss or other communicative disorders. A number of CAT programs are being marketed to patients and audiologists. The present literature review is an examination of evidence for the effectiveness of CAT in improving speech perception in adults with hearing impairments. Six current CAT programs, used in 9 published studies, were reviewed. In all 9 studies, some benefit of CAT for speech perception was demonstrated. Although these results are encouraging, the overall quality of available evidence remains low, and many programs currently on the market have not yet been evaluated. Thus, caution is needed when selecting CAT programs for specific patients. It is hoped that future researchers will (a) examine a greater number of CAT programs using more rigorous experimental designs, (b) determine which program features and training regimens are most effective, and (c) indicate which patients may benefit from CAT the most.

AbstractPurpose: The purpose of this article is to inform speech-language pathologists in the schools about issues related to the care of children with traumatic brain injury.Method: Literature review of characteristics, outcomes and issues related to the needs serving children. Results: Due to acquired changes in cognition, children with traumatic brain injury have unique needs in a school setting. Conclusions: Speech-Language Pathologists in the school can take a leadership role with taking care of children after a traumatic brain injury and coordination of medical and educational information.
