TiO2 is one of the most attractive metal oxides because of the excellent chemical and photocatalytic properties. However, a problem in the application of TiO2 is the large band gap energy of 3.2 eV, corresponding to its photocatalytic activity under UV-light irradiation of wavelengths <387 nm. In this work, TiO2 nanoparticles doped with iron were grown on the surface of functionalized carbon nanotubes (TiO2-Fe@CNTs) to expand the photoabsorbance of the nanocomposite materials in the visible light region and improve their photocatalytic activity. TiO2-Fe@CNTs nanocomposite materials were synthesized by hydrothermal route in Teflon-sealed autoclave at 180oC for 10h. The FE-SEM and X-Ray diffraction measurements were taken for morphology and structural analysis of TiO2 nanoparticles doped with Fe coating on CNTs. The effects of the iron and CNTs on the enhanced photocatalytic activity for methylene blue degradation under AM 1.5 illumination of 100 mW.cm−2 were investigated.

Introducing different atoms into TiO 2 crystal lattice is a famous method to improve photocatalytic activity of TiO 2 under visible-light irradiation. In this paper, Nitrogen ( N ) and fluorine ( F ) co -doped TiO 2 powders were prepared by mixing TiCl 3 solutions with ammonium fluoride ( NH 4 F ). In preparation, we used NH 3- H 2 O solution for adjustment of pH values (pH 2, 7, and 9) of mixed solution. X-ray diffraction (XRD) indicated N , F - TiO 2 powders prepared at pH7 and pH9 contained only anatase phase, but the powders prepared at pH2 contained both anatase and rutile phase. The result of XRD also indicated N , F - TiO 2 powders prepared at pH7 had the smallest crystallite size. We measured photocatalytic activity of prepared N , F - TiO 2 powders by the decomposition of methylene blue. N , F - TiO 2 powder prepared at pH7 and pH9 showed same high photocatalytic activity under ultraviolet light irradiation (peak wave length = 352 nm). Furthermore, under green light LED irradiation (wave length = 525 nm), a sample prepared at pH7 decomposed methylene blue more quickly than any other samples. As the result, N , F - TiO 2 prepared at pH7 had the best catalytic activity under both UV-light and visible light in the all of N , F - TiO 2 prepared and reference TiO 2 photocatalyst (ST-01 produced by Ishihara Co. Ltd).

A facile route was demonstrated to obtain an efficient graphene-hybridized TiO2 photocatalyst. The photodegradation results of Methylene Blue over graphene hybridized with TiO2 showed that the photocatalytic activity could be significantly enhanced under UV light irradiation. The structure between TiO2 and graphene as well as its effect on the photocatalytic activity were systematically investigated. The mechanism of the enhanced photocatalytic activity is based to the high migration efficiency and the inhibition of recombination of photoinduced electron-hole pairs. The graphene hydridization is proven to be a promising approach to develop highly efficient and stable photocatalysts under UV light irradiation.

In order to improve the photocatalytic activity, Co was successfully loaded into Ag3VO4 by using impregnation process. The samples were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscope (SEM), energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS) and diffuse reflectance spectroscopy (DRS). The XRD and SEM–EDS analyses revealed that Co ion was dispersed on Ag3VO4. The DRS results indicated that the absorption edge of the Co–Ag3VO4 catalyst shifted to longer wavelength. The enhanced photocatalytic activity of Co–Ag3VO4 for Methylene Blue(MB) dye degradation under visible light irradiation was due to its wider absorption edge and higher separation rate of photo-generated electron and holes. In the experimental conditions, it is demonstrated that the MB was effectively degraded by more than 95% within 40 min when the Co–Ag3VO4 catalyst was calcined at 300°C with 1 wt.% Co content.

The yttrium based metal-organic framework (MOF) Y-PTC was synthesized by the solvothermal method using perylene as the linker and yttrium as metal ion. This study aims to assess the photocatalytic activity of yttrium-perylenetetracarboxylate (Y-PTC) metal-organic framework (MOF) toward methylene blue and methyl orange under visible light irradiation. The results of the FTIR analysis showed that Y-PTC MOF had a different structure and composition from its precursor (Na4PTC). The Y-PTC MOF has a bandgap energy value of 2.20 eV with a surface area of 47.7487 m2/g. The SEM-EDS analysis showed an elemental composition of yttrium, carbon, and oxygen, were 6.9%, 72.1% and 20.7%, respectively. Furthermore, Y-PTC MOF was able to adsorb dyes at the optimum by 78.10% and 35.57% toward methylene blue (MB) and methyl orange (MO) at the dispersion period of 60 mins. Y-PTC MOF exhibited photocatalytic activity towards the degradation of methylene blue and methyl orange under visible light irradiation. The addition of H2O2 inhibited Y-PTC photocatalytic activity towards MO degradation from 50.89% to 26.38%. In contrast to MO, the addition of H2O2 had a positive effect on MB, which increased the degradation from 87.56% to 91.65%. Therefore, Y-PTC MOF possessed the potential of a photocatalyst material in dyes degradation under visible light irradiation.
