Four compounds namely Fenor (F-760), Strom, salicylic acid (SA) and thiamin (B1) were tested against root rot disease of wheat under field condition. Wheat grains were soaked in these compounds for 6 h before sowing. Mean disease rating, disease appearance, and distribution of disease were estimated as parameters of disease severity. All tested compounds significantly reduced the root rot of wheat severity during seedling, flowering and ripening stages. Fresh and dry weights were also affected by application of these compounds. Water maintenance capacity in all stages was increased as a result of seed treatments by the above-mentioned compounds. Crop yield and parameters of spikes and grains were significantly improved. These results were discussed and analyzed statistically using LSD test.

The experiment was conducted during 2002-03 in the infested plot of the BINA sub-station at Ishurdi, Pabna to evaluate the effectiveness of Rhizobium strains and biofertilizers in controlling the foot and root rot disease, and to increase green pod yield of Bush bean under field condition. The highest germination (91.6%) was recorded with BINAR P36, which was statistically similar to BAUR 107, BARIR 7029, BARIR 1000, BINAR P6 and BINA biofertilizer. The lowest germination (77.9%) was found in untreated control. The highest foot and root rot (24.5%) was observed in untreated control and the lowest (10.00%) was in BINAR P36. Biofertilizers and Rhizobial strains decreased foot and root rot upto 59.2% over untreated control. The highest green pod yield (20.8 tlha) was obtained for using BINAR P36, which was followed by BARIR 7029, BARIR 892, BARIR 1000, BINAR P6 and BINA biofertilizer. The lowest green pod yield (13.6 tlha) was found in untreated control. Rhizobium strain BINAR P36 may be used as seed treatment for controlling foot and root rot and increasing green pod yield of Bush bean. The effect of different amounts of phosphorus, potassium, nitrogen, and calcium upon the development of the foot-rot disease of wheat caused by Helminthosporium sativum P. K. & B. was studied in the greenhouse. The wheat grains were planted in sterilized pure quartz sand to which the necessary nutrients and spore suspension of the pathogen were added. The experiments were maintained under aseptic conditions during the first ten days. The disease increased when the ionic concentration of potassium, nitrogen, and calcium was decreased below that of the complete nutrient solution, but no significant reduction of the disease was observed when the concentrations of all of the elements, including phosphorus, were increased above those in the complete nutrient solution. Apparently extremely small concentrations of phosphorus had no effect on the disease one way or the other. These conclusions apply to the disease on the seedling stage of wheat.
