The self-help group (SHG) is a powerful instrument to empower economically backward women of rural India as the women members under the SHG not only can earn income but they feel empowered also. With the launching of Swarnajaynti Gram Swarozgar Yojana (SGSY) by the Ministry of Rural Development, Government of India from April 1999, subsequently rechristened as Deen Dayal Antyodaya Yojana–National Rural Livelihood Mission (DAY-NRLM) self-help group approach (SHG) has been given utmost importance in India for the development of rural women mainly focusing on below poverty line households. SHG concept is popular in many rural areas of India as through economic development and subsequently empowering, rural women have got a solid platform. This research article has discussed the how rural women after forming SHGs in Ranga Reddy district (R.R. District) of Telangana were not only earning and contributing to the family but felt empowered also. The study was carried out at Gandipet village of Gandipet Mandal, Ranga Reddy (R.R.) district in September 2017. The some women members of 10 different SHGs were contacted and few individual cases are presented here.

The objective of the chapter is to analyze the determinants of participation and impact of microfinance on income, empowerment, and efficiency. The study is based on primary data based on the field survey conducted in Baripada block and Betanati of Mayurbhanj District of Odisha, India. For this study, a total of 400 households were covered, out of which 300 are participants and 100 are non-participants. Four participants are selected from each self-help group. The Functional Efficiency Index, Economic Empowerment Index, activity level correlates of functional efficiency and economic empowerment have been calculated. The study found that 28% of the total groups have a low level of functional efficiency while 42% of the groups have attained moderate level of functional efficiency and 30% of the groups have managed to reach a high level of functional efficiency. The result suggests that land holding, education, and participation are positively related to household income. The poorest section of the society, those who need at most attention, are not participating significantly in the program.

The purpose of this study to determine the utilization of ZIS funds by LAZ Al-Azhar Surabaya in community groups in Laharpang Hamlet through economic empowerment. The research is descriptive qualitative with the case study method.LAZ Al-Azhar by using qualitative method. interviews were conducted with five respondents consisting of two parties from LAZ Al-Azhar and three group members. The data used are primary data and secondary data. The results of the study indicate that the utilization of Al-Azhar ZIS LAZ funds in the Lamor Kelud Sejahtera Community Self-Help Group (SHG) was carried out through the Million Empowerment Program. Empowerment of SHG provided is in the form of assistance, supervision, capital loans, and Joint Business Groups (KUB). This is evidenced by the increase in revenue mustahiq, smoothness installment payments as well as the ability to sadaqah.Keywords: Utilization of Zakat Infaq Shadaqa, LAZ Al-Azhar, Empowerment, Lamor Kelud Sejahtera KSM.

Objective - This study aims to explore financial literacy and its effects on economic empowerment among the self-help group (SHG) women members who are from the Virudhunagar District of Tamil Nadu, India. Methodology/Technique - Data were randomly collected from 400 SHG women members who were from 11 Blocks of the Virudhunagar District. The techniques used were the Financial Literacy Scale and Economic Empowerment Questionnaire which were developed and standardized for the study. Descriptive analysis, quartile and f-test were used to analyse data. Findings - The study reveals that financial literacy, like saving skills, financial knowledge, borrowing skills and investment skills, play a very significant and vital role in the economic empowerment of the self-help group women members in the Virudhunagar District. Novelty - Financial literacy like saving skills, financial knowledge, borrowing skill and investment skills play a very significant role in empowering women in the Virudhunagar District. Today, the self-help group movement is increasingly accepted as an innovation in the field of rural credit in many developing countries including India to help the rural poor considered a vehicle to reach the disadvantaged and marginalized section, which in the normal course cannot avail of credit facility from the bank. Self-help group is consisting of people who have personal experience of a similar issue or life situation, either directly or through their family and friends. Sharing experiences enables them to give each other a unique quality of mutual support and to pool practical information and ways of coping.
