English has always been an essential part of junior high school curriculum. Improving students’ reading ability is not only the purpose of learning English for junior middle school students, but also an important means to acquire new knowledge. However, reading as one of the four basic skills required by the English course often keep students from getting high marks in the middle of the exam, although they took lots of time to read. This paper emphasizes the importance of English reading in junior middle school and analyzes the current situations and problems of students’ reading. It introduces the theories of reading and reading comprehension, discourse and discourse analysis, and the relationship between reading and discourse. The author puts forward some measures to improve the reading ability of students. There are many researches on discourse analysis about university, but the research is less involved in the secondary school, and the study of reading comprehension in junior middle school is even rarer. Therefore, the author thinks that it is very necessary to improve the discourse ability of junior high school students.

This research tries to apply the scaffolding teaching mode in English reading teaching, with the purpose of enhancing students’ interest in reading and improving their reading levels. This study explores whether scaffolding teaching can enhance students’ reading interest and thus improve junior high school students’ English reading ability. After a 3-month-long teaching experiment, through the comparison and analysis of questionnaires and English reading scores, it is found out that scaffolding teaching is beneficial to enhance students’ reading interest and improve students’ reading level.

Reading ability is the important part of English learning and the close relationship between language and culture determines the significant impact of cultural background knowledge on reading comprehension. The cultivation of students' English cultural awareness and sensitivity of English culture should be paid attention at the beginning. In this paper, the impact of the cultural knowledge on reading comprehension here is emphasized. And how to improve the junior high school students' cultural background is also discussed further.

The study deals with the Contextual Teaching and Learning of the students’ reading comprehension at junior high school. Contextual Teaching and Learning is a new alternative for every teachers to relate the materials to the real world. The aims of the research are to analyze the effect of non and CTL method of the students’ reading comprehension.  The research method is an experimental method. The data analysis is taken from the two classess. Then, they divided into two  groups, the control and experimental group. The major findings of the study shows that the effect of Contextual Teaching and Learning on the students’ reading comprehension is better than the non CTL method-lecture method for the junior high school students.

This study aimed to determine the factors affecting writing skill quality and the level of their contribution to help language teachers to formulate more effective strategies using CAT to enhance writing skill. The correlating factors discussed in this research were students’ reading comprehension skill, vocabulary mastery, and attitude toward language.  The study applied quantitative approach with simple and multiple correlation and regression techniques. The samples of the study were 100 students taken using stratified random sampling technique from a population of 2000 junior high school students in Surakarta City. The data were collected using multiple choice test for students’ reading comprehension skills and vocabulary mastery, writing assignments, and questionnaires for their attitudes toward the Indonesian language. The findings showed that there are positive correlations between the independent variables, either individually or simultaneously, with writing skill. The individual contribution levels is 44.75% of reading comprehension skill, 27.70% of vocabulary mastery, and 28.5% of attitude toward language. As for the simultaneous correlation of the three determining factors make up to 45.16%. contribution level to writing skill quality. Thus it can be concluded that reading comprehension has the most contribution to writing skill compared to vocabulary mastery and attitude toward language. The identified levels of contribution can be taken into consideration in formulating teaching strategies and materials to enhance writing skill quality.

Reading is not only one of the purposes of English teaching, but also an important way of English learning. Students’ knowledge of English reading enables them to read effectively. At this time, students’ reading focus will gradually shift from learning to using English to obtain information and experience the real purpose of English reading. The traditional junior high school English reading teaching can’t meet the requirements of the new curriculum reform and helps students achieve their initial learning goals. Based on the basic theoretical knowledge of English reading teaching, this article analyzes the problems encountered by teachers and students in the process of English reading teaching, and puts forward the corresponding countermeasures, hoping to promote the level of junior high school students’ English reading teaching.

The purpose of this paper is to discuss the ways of using concept mapping strategies for enhancing Junior High School students’ reading comprehension in reading report text. Many students face difficulties in reading, like problems in their reading comprehension, cannot interpret what they read, and make the connection between what they read and what they have already known because they are unable to accurately understand written materials. Concept mapping can solve these problems by mapping their ideas, comprehending any scientific text especially for report text, analyze reading text easily, and make of conclusion from the text in a structural way. So, the concept mapping strategy is suitable for enhancing students’ reading comprehension and solve the problem.

The objectives of the research were to investigate whether there was a statistically significant difference of the students’ reading comprehension achievement after the implementation of DRTA strategy and SQ3R strategy. Furthermore, the approach used in this research was quantitative. The subjects were 32 students for DRTA group and 31 students for SQ3R group of Junior High school 9 Bandar Lampung. The reading tests were used as the research instrument. In addition, the data were analyzed by using Repeated Measure t-test. The result showed that there was a statically significant difference of students’ reading comprehension with the significant level 0.05. From the result, it is suggested that SQ3R strategy can facilitate students better to improve their achievement in reading comprehension.
