Group counseling intervention is able to enhance emotional stability among adults, especially those serving in the challenging circumstances of uniformed organizations. This study intends to explore the application of group counseling intervention among firefighters in the Fire and Rescue Department of Malaysia undergoing training for promotion purposes. The objectives of this study are to: a) examine factors that cause emotional instability among firefighters in the Fire and Rescue Department of Malaysia, and b) examine the application of group counseling intervention to enhance emotional stability among firefighters in the Fire and Rescue Department of Malaysia. This research was conducted using the qualitative descriptive case study design approach. Data collection was done through a focus group comprising 20 firefighters who were undergoing a course for promotion purpose. Five group counseling interventions totaling 16 hours were done a marathon session in three day. Research findings indicate that group counseling intervention is able to help reduce stress and increase emotional stability of firefighers participating in the course. The opportunity to share their feelings, and extend emotional support among group members contributed to the fostering of emotional stability within the group.

Symbols and symbolisms across literary genres are powerful rhetoric devices used to enhance not only writers’ style, but to convey richness in meaning that transcends narrative descriptions. However, as its interpretations are context-bound, it causes anxieties for the under-proficient language teacher who, firstmost, requires deep specific content knowledge to drive instruction and enhance cognition amongst learners. Using qualitative descriptive case study, this paper aims to provide specific content knowledge by examining the literary use of symbols, symbolisms and significance in Yann Martel’s ‘Life of Pi’, which has been prescribed as a set book for Grade 12 school-exiting learners in South Africa, for the year 2017 onwards. The paper will – by analysing arbitrary, cultural and personal symbolisms and significances, mostly through psychoanalytical lens – unravel covert meanings and messages in cultural, religious and environmental contexts whilst simultaneously showing how these are pivotal to understanding major themes in the novel.

The purpose of this research is to identify the dimensions of Entrepreneurial Intentions on women entrepreneurs in IWAPI Bandung City who are middle aged by using Model Intention Entrepreneurial Event of Shapero (SEE). This research use qualitative descriptive case study (case study). The type of sampling that used in this research is Sampling Network who also called Mechanical Snowball (Snowball Sampling) and there are 4 respondents that researcher pick based on criteria that fit the theme of research. All of them are members of IWAPI Bandung City that truly pioneering efforts from the beginning, either to level SME or entrepreneur with a greater level. The results showed that the triggering factors (trigger event) are dominated by the experience of having negative than positive displacement pull and there is only one respondent who experienced both. According to the SEE theory, perceived desirability dimension does not affect the decision of all respondents in entrepreneurship so that they do not really care  the public opinion about the role of women as entrepreneurs because there is not any respondents who own desire from the beginning to be an entrepreneur. The main factors that need to be considered is Perceived Feasibility because it proves that a woman entrepreneur with high confidence is capable to maximize the potential of her resources.

Articulating a Succinct Description uses ethnographic data to create case study interventions facilitated with people who belong to the culture with whom the ethnographer is engaged. We do so in order to disseminate research findings, address problems presented in the case, and collect additional data for further collective analysis. Further, Articulating a Succinct Description is designed as a means of intervention for underrepresented group members to be heard and gain support and promote equity engagement among majority members in efforts to create more inclusive cultures. In this paper, we validate this method using findings from its application with engineering students at a public university. This method allowed us to view engineering culture not as monolithic, but rather as one with multiple sets of cultural beliefs, values, and behaviors. In particular, we noted a behavior among students we’ve called Swing Staters, who expressed meritocratic beliefs, yet, who we argue, may be critical to reducing bias in engineering education. These findings, analyzed along interwoven threads of race and gender, demonstrate the efficacy of the Articulating a Succinct Description method and contribute to efforts in engineering education to advance pedagogical tools to reduce bias and exclusions in these fields.

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to analyse the importance of innovation in the industry; factors that condition technological competitiveness at Magneti Marelli Controle Motor; analyse the risks and opportunities involved in the process of diffusion and management of flexfuel technology. Design/methodology/approach – The methodological approach was qualitative/descriptive case study, supported by the theoretical framework on risk analysis and strategic analysis. Findings – In a Brazilian market context, new technologies need to make cars more competitive in cost/price terms. Magneti Marelli had an innovative and important role in the development and implementation of this technology. Thus, it achieved a higher share of market and recognition of its entrepreneurial character. Originality/value – There are few academic papers that relate the topics risk, strategy and Innovation. Moreover, the paper reports a successful case of Brazilian innovation in the global automotive industry.

Background: There has been little research on the experiences of healthcare workers (HCWs) with deaf/hearing impaired (HI) clients. Anecdotal evidence suggests that HCWs experience challenges, but little is reported on how they manage these challenges. Interactions with and care of deaf/Deaf and HI patients by clinicians has yielded several questions around communication and assessment strategies, as well as comparative quality of health care for deaf/Deaf and HI clients. This research was intended to further the understanding and knowledge of these aspects of health care of deaf/Deaf and HI clients. Methods: The study design is a qualitative, descriptive case study. Data were collected using semi-structured interviews with individual HCWs and focus-group discussions with groups of participants. Participants were invited staff members at Retreat Community Health Centre (RCHC) in Cape Town. Convenience sampling was used to select participants, and interviews were conducted until saturation was reached. Data were studied and analysed using the phenomenological method. Results: HCWs reported that they serve very few Deaf or HI clients. However, themes of language barriers, resilience, preconceptions, improvisation and innovation, interpreters and recommendations emerged. Difficulties in communication were acknowledged, but HCWs insisted that these barriers are not insurmountable.Discussion and conclusion: A few preconceptions and gaps in knowledge and awareness were revealed. HCWs also tended to rely on escorts and other interpreters. The dominant recommendations are that HCWs should receive training in sign language (SL) and/or that SL interpreters be available at facilities. Despite using words and phrases such as ‘frustrating’ and ‘more effort’, participants’ concluding remarks reiterate that their experiences are positive, suggesting a notable resilience.

The purpose of this study is to explain what are low motivated factors  in extensive reading achievement. It is based on the problems that some students had a low motivation in extensive reading, and they had a problem with their motivation. The bad effect of that problems the students are lazy to read in or out of the classroom. To achieve the purpose of study, the writer used case study with the design descriptive case study. The research participants took from the students from the second semester who took the extensive reading class at English Department University of Wiralodra Indramayu. To get the data, the writer used questionnaire, observation and interview. The findings showed that there was an equal percentage 21 % who said that reading ability and attitudes toward reading as the factors made them low motivated in extensive reading. In line the findings, Day and Bamford (1998: 29) revealed that low level reading abilities would normally lower expectations of success and thus lower motivation to read. And then,26 % of students said that sociocultural environment made them low motivate in extensive reading. The last, the highest percentage was 32 % who said that materials made the students low motivated in extensive reading. Regarding the research findings, the lecturer should create an interesting and meaningful materials to increase students motivation and achievement in extensive reading.
