MQTT is a communication protocol for exchanging messages between clients via MQTT broker and is used to build many IoT systems. Currently, various tools have been developed to help measure the performance of application systems using MQTT. However, because they are all versatile tools, a dedicated test system that meets the purpose of the application system needs to be built on their behalf. But building a test system is not that simple. In this paper we discuss a case of building a test system for measuring U-Mosquitto’s performance, which has modified the open source Mosquitto broker to handle urgent messages with priority, and some issues to be considered in the process. In particular, they include selection of the server computer, the structure of the test program, the use of appropriate threads for the client, the appropriate number of clients, the appropriate workload per client, clock synchronization between clients, protocol analyzer issues, and other issues. Our experiences and considerations on these issues are expected to be a good guide for building a test system to measure the performance of MQTT application systems.

The harmonic reducer, with its advantages of high precision, low noise, light weight, and high speed ratio, has been widely used in aerospace solar wing deployment mechanisms, antenna pointing mechanisms, robot joints, and other precision transmission fields. Accurately predicting the performance of the harmonic reducer under various application conditions is of great significance to the high reliability and long life of the harmonic reducer. In this paper, a set of automatic harmonic reducer performance test systems is designed. By using the CANOpen bus interface to control the servo motor as the drive motor, through accurately controlling the motor speed and rotation angle, collecting the angle, torque, and current in real time, the life cycle test of space harmonic reducer was carried out in high vacuum and low temperature environment on the ground. Then, the collected data were automatically analyzed and calculated. The test data of the transmission accuracy, backlash, and transmission efficiency of the space harmonic reducer were obtained. It is proven by experiments that the performance data of the harmonic reducer in space work can be more accurately obtained by using the test system mentioned in this paper, which is convenient for further research on related lubricating materials.

With the renewed interest in the construction of coal-fired power plants in the United States, there has also been an increased interest in the methodology used to calculate/determine the overall performance of a coal fired power plant. This methodology is detailed in the ASME PTC 46 (1996) Code, which provides an excellent framework for determining the power output and heat rate of coal fired power plants. Unfortunately, the power industry has been slow to adopt this methodology, in part because of the lack of some details in the Code regarding the planning needed to design a performance test program for the determination of coal fired power plant performance. This paper will expand on the ASME PTC 46 (1996) Code by discussing key concepts that need to be addressed when planning an overall plant performance test of a coal fired power plant. The most difficult aspect of calculating coal fired power plant performance is integrating the calculation of boiler performance with the calculation of turbine cycle performance and other balance of plant aspects. If proper planning of the performance test is not performed, the integration of boiler and turbine data will result in a test result that does not accurately reflect the true performance of the overall plant. This planning must start very early in the development of the test program, and be implemented in all stages of the test program design. This paper will address the necessary planning of the test program, including: • Determination of Actual Plant Performance. • Selection of a Test Goal. • Development of the Basic Correction Algorithm. • Designing a Plant Model. • Development of Correction Curves. • Operation of the Power Plant during the Test. All nomenclature in this paper utilizes the ASME PTC 46 definitions for the calculation and correction of plant performance.

To meet the needs of test for compound oscillatory roller transmission (CORT) reducer, A comprehensive test system for precision transmission performance was designed, the test-bed structure and control principal of which were introduced. First, a transmission performance test method was proposed and focused on the transmission performance of velocity ratio, accuracy, and efficiency. Then, user interface based on LabVIEW program was designed, and the transmission performance of torque, angle, velocity, velocity ratio, return difference, efficiency could be displayed. Finally, measurement example on an E80 type CORT reducer has been made, and shows that the proposed test system is suitable for test for these reducers of high-precision drive, high stiffness, high load characteristics.

Research on the innovation process and its effective management has consistently highlighted a set of themes constituting "good practice". The limitation of such "good practice" is that it relates to what might be termed "steady state" innovation — essentially innovative activity in product and process terms which is about "doing what we do, but better". The prescription works well under these conditions of (relative) stability in terms of products and markets but is not a good guide when elements of discontinuity come into the equation. Discontinuity arises from shifts along technological, market, political and other frontiers and requires new or at least significantly adapted approaches to their effective management. This paper highlights empirical findings from a selection of companies involved in a project sponsored by the U.K. Department of Trade and Industry. The results indicate a number of key routines that organisations could implement to enable discontinuous innovation.

New standards in the automotive industry highlighted the situation of the actual operation of the alternator and a variety of harsh environment simulation limit test. Using new standards in the automotive industry as a guide, this article presents a virtual instrument based on the durability of automobile generator integrated test system. The design adopt virtual instrument technology in designing the system, Graphic language, LabVIEW is applied in writing measure-control program. The system uses a lot of features on LABVIEW, including Data acquisition, control of serials port, etc. Test implementation uses the host computer via RS232 and RS485 communication port and the data acquisition card, NI PCI- 6221, to control the frequency hybrid motor, temperature control box, electronic loads and other intelligent devices, and to simulate a variety of automotive alternator working conditions and real-time monitoring to monitor the status of generators. Using this system, two separate automobile alternators can be tested in terms of high-speed vehicle impact and high temperature durability test and electrical performance test and other tests at the same time. As a result, the generator speed measurement error is within 1%, the control error is within 2%, voltage and current measurement errors were within 0.5% and 0.4%, which meets the requirements.
