A series of pyrimidine-5-carbonitrile derivatives was efficiently synthesized via one-pot, multi component reaction (MCRs) of 1,3-bifunctional synthon (ethylcyano acetate), substituted pyrazole-4-carbaldehyde, and thiourea/urea in the presence of basic catalyst. The key advantages of this process are high yields, shorter reaction times, easy work-up, and purification of products by non-chromatographic method.

AbstractNano-eggshell/Ti(IV) as a novel naturally based catalyst was prepared, characterized and applied for the synthesis of dihydropyrano[2,3-c]pyrazole derivatives. The characterization of nano-eggshell/Ti(IV) was performed using Fourier Transform Infrared spectroscopy, X-ray Diffraction, Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscopy, Energy-Dispersive X-ray Spectroscopy, and Thermo Gravimetric Analysis. Dihydropyrano[2,3-c]pyrazoles were synthesized in the presence of nano-eggshell/Ti(IV) via a four component reaction of aldehydes, ethyl acetoacetate, malononitrile and hydrazine hydrate at room temperature under solvent free conditions. The principal affairs of this procedure are mild condition, short reaction times, easy work-up, high yields, reusability of the catalyst and the absence of toxic organic solvents.

: A green and efficient protocol was developed for the one-pot three-component synthesis of novel 2-(4-hydroxy-2-oxo-2H-chromen-3-yl)-2-(arylamino)-1H-indene-1,3(2H)-dione derivatives by the reaction of 4-hydroxycoumarin, ninhydrin and aromatic amines in the presence of guanidine hydrochloride as an organocatalyst under solvent-free conditions. The present approach offers several advantages such as low cost, simple work-up, short reaction times, chromatography-free purification, high yields and greener conditions.

A catalytic amount of pTSA has been found to be effective to carry out a one-pot three-component coupling of aromatic aldehydes, enolizable ketones or ketoesters, and acetonitrile in the presence of acetyl chloride to afford β-acetamidoketones in high yields. Short reaction times and inexpensive catalyst are main advantages of this protocol.Key words: β-acetamidoketone, pTSA, multicomponent reaction, diastereoselectivity.

A series of new 8-aryl-7,8-dihydro[1,3]dioxolo[4,5-g]chromen-6-ones were synthesized via a three-component reaction of 3,4-methylenedioxyphenol, aromatic aldehydes and Meldrum’s acid in the presence of CeCl3·7H2O under solvent-free conditions. The method provided several advantages such as easy work-up, high yields and environmentally benign procedure.

Leucine, a naturally occurring α-amino acid, has been found as an effective catalyst to effect the one-pot three-component condensation reaction between aromatic aldehydes, malononitrile and 5,5-dimethyl-1,3-cyclohexanedione (dimedone). Various 2-amino-4-aryl-7,7-dimethyl-5-oxo-5,6,7,8-tetrahydro-4H-chromene-3-carbonitrile derivatives are conveniently prepared by these reactions in excellent yields. High yields, short reaction times, simple work-up, use of green and naturally occurring catalyst and solvent are the main merits of the present protocol.

A green approach for the synthesis of polyfunctionalized pyrrolo[2,3-d]pyrimidine derivatives was successfully achieved by a one-pot, three-component reaction of arylglyoxals, 6-amino-1,3-dimethyluracil and barbituric acid derivatives in the presence of tetra-n-butylammonium bromide (TBAB) (5 mol%) as the catalyst in ethanol at 50 °C. This protocol has many advantages such as high yields (73-95%), green and simple procedure, short reaction times, easy work-up, mild reaction conditions and general applicability.

Silica gel-supported polyphosphoric acid (PPA-SiO2) was found to be highly efficient, eco-friendly and recyclable heterogeneous catalyst for the synthesis of 2,4,6-triarylpyridines through one-pot three-component reaction of acetophenone, aryl aldehydes, and ammonium acetate under solvent-free conditions. This method has several advantages, such as simple procedure with an easy work-up, short reaction times, and high yields. Furthermore, the catalyst could be recycled after a simple work-up, and used at least three times without substantial reduction in its catalytic activity.
