Under the name “TV 3.0 Project”, the Brazilian Terrestrial Television System Forum (SBTVD) has issued the Call for Proposals (CfP) for a next generation Brazilian digital TV system, in July 2020. The MPEG-H Audio system, based on the open international standard ISO/IEC 23008-3, has been proposed by Fraunhofer IIS, ATEME, the Digital Broadcasting Experts Group (DiBEG) and the Advanced Television Systems Committee (ATSC). This paper provides an overview of the MPEG-H Audio system and the TV 3.0 Project requirements for the audio component. The TV 3.0 Project specifies a detailed test and evaluation procedure for verifying the fulfillment of the requirements. With wide industry support, the MPEG-H Audio system brings immersive sound, advanced interactivity, and accessibility options, as well as advanced features like hybrid delivery, consistent loudness after user interaction, connectivity options for external sound devices and seamless configuration changes. The MPEG-H Audio proponents have submitted a complete production and broadcast real-time chain to the SBTVD Forum which demonstrates the most advanced features.

Broadcasting interactive learning applications through the digital TV promises to open new pedagogical perspectives given the wide penetration of the medium. This case deals with an open, flexible learning oriented technological framework for interactive digital TV. The framework is divided into two main parts: the production side, where the course is created and the client side, where it is presented on interactive digital television (iDTV) through an interactive learning environment. The course production is supported by an ad-hoc designed authoring tool, which has been thought for a use by pedagogical experts, while the runtime user interaction on iDTV is managed by a Course Multimedia Player. Experimental television learning (t-learning) courses were created by pedagogical experts and served as an important test and evaluation bench for the framework.

The aim of this paper is to develop an Automated Test System (ATS) for the Test and Evaluation of C-Band Transmitter packages for GEOSAT Space crafts using Virtual Instrumentation. Efficiency, coverage, quality and accuracy for the test and evaluation of Device Under Test (DUT) can be increased by Automated Testing. Minimizing the errors anticipated with manual intervention. Automated Test System using Virtual instrumentation (VI) combines rapid development software and modular, flexible hardware to create user-defined test systems. Here Modular PXI (Peripheral component interface Extensions for Instrumentation) instruments from National Instruments are used with NI-LabVIEW software for realizing the ATS. For characterizing the C-Band Transmitter, Spectrum analyzer & Digital Multimeter (DMM) is configured in PXI form-factor and the Power supply is controlled through GPIB (General Purpose Interface Bus) bus. The complete software is developed using NI LabVIEW which takes care of configuring the test condition and analyzing the DUT performance. The user friendly GUI well takes care of user interaction to the ATS.

With the increase of extreme weather events, the frequency and severity of urban flood events in the world are increasing drastically. Therefore, this study develops ARMT (automatic combined ground weather radar and CCTV (Closed Circuit Television System) images for real-time flood monitoring), which integrates real-time ground radar echo images and automatically estimates a rainfall hotspot according to the cloud intensity. Furthermore, ARMT combines CCTV image capturing, analysis, and Fourier processing, identification, water level estimation, and data transmission to provide real-time warning information. Furthermore, the hydrograph data can serve as references for relevant disaster prevention, and response personnel may take advantage of them and make judgements based on them. The ARMT was tested through historical data input, which showed its reliability to be between 83% to 92%. In addition, when applied to real-time monitoring and analysis (e.g., typhoon), it had a reliability of 79% to 93%. With the technology providing information about both images and quantified water levels in flood monitoring, decision makers can quickly better understand the on-site situation so as to make an evacuation decision before the flood disaster occurs as well as discuss appropriate mitigation measures after the disaster to reduce the adverse effects that flooding poses on urban areas.

This chapter presents a series of new augmented reality user interaction techniques to support the capture and creation of 3D geometry of large outdoor structures. Named construction at a distance, these techniques are based on the action at a distance concepts employed by other virtual environments researchers. These techniques address the problem of AR systems traditionally being consumers of information, rather than being used to create new content. By using information about the user’s physical presence along with hand and head gestures, AR systems can be used to capture and create the geometry of objects that are orders of magnitude larger than the user, with no prior information or assistance. While existing scanning techniques can only be used to capture existing physical objects, construction at a distance also allows the creation of new models that exist only in the mind of the user. Using a single AR interface, users can enter geometry and verify its accuracy in real-time. Construction at a distance is a collection of 3D modelling techniques based on the concept of AR working planes, landmark alignment, constructive solid geometry operations, and iterative refinement to form complex shapes. This chapter presents a number of different construction at a distance techniques, and are demonstrated with examples of real objects that have been modelled in the physical world.

Abstract The Horwitz curve estimates interlaboratory precision as a function only of concentration, and is frequently used as a method performance criterion in food analysis with chemical methods. The quantitative biochemical methods based on real-time PCR require an analogous criterion to progressively promote method validation. We analyzed the tendency of precision using a simplex real-time PCR technique in 53 collaborative studies of seven genetically modified (GM) crops. Reproducibility standard deviation (SR) and repeatability standard deviation (Sr) of the genetically modified organism (GMO) amount () was more or less independent of GM crops (i.e., maize, soybean, cotton, oilseed rape, potato, sugar beet, and rice) and evaluation procedure steps. Some studies evaluated whole steps consisting of DNA extraction and PCR quantitation, whereas others focused only on the PCR quantitation step by using DNA extraction solutions. Therefore, SR and Sr for GMO amount () are functions only of concentration similar to the Horwitz curve. We proposed SR 0.1971C0.8685 and Sr 0.1478C0.8424, where C is the GMO amount (). We also proposed a method performance index in GMO quantitative methods that is analogous to the Horwitz Ratio.

In China, closed caption is the latest technology standard separating the caption from the image. In current digital television system, it is an urgent issue to be resolved that how to implement the real-time transmission of closed caption with its host video. This paper proposed a kind of closed caption and its representation method. It also designed a closed caption data structure based on XML and provided a solution about how to package XML file and XML Schema file into MXF files.
