Definitely the title of the volume ”Bărbatul și femeia. imaginea unei polemici cu privire la echitatea de gen” [The Man and the Woman. The Image of a Controversy Regarding Gender Equity], which is authored by Iulian Apostu and Cristina Georgiana Petrescu, published by Lumen Publishing House in Iași, Romania, in 2017, would make us think of a whole series of statements full of flavor and candor about social reality and about the eternal contradiction between man and woman, but no, the book is not about conflict, vanity, quarrels. It is about the essence of men's coexistence with women, about egalitarianism explained with charm and attention to detail. In the 157 pages you can't help but find yourself, it's impossible not to empathize with the authors and you end up with some passages that you might use in order to enter into a dialogue with your own person and you don't know why. And the answer, of course, also comes from the pages of the book, which through the structure of the chapters takes the topics one by one, fixes them, capitalizes on them and places them in contexts that you identify with without doubt and are topical in today's society.

We are constantly evolving, society is modernizing and most are beginning to accept change, but nevertheless we still strongly have a model to relate to the two genders (male and female) well inoculated within our culture and way of thinking. The volume ”Bărbatul şi femeia : imaginea unei polemici cu privire la echitatea de gen” [The man and the woman. The image of a controversy regarding gender equity], published by Lumen Publishing House from Iași, Romania, in 2017, manages, under the guidance of professor Iulian Apostu and Cristina Georgiana Petrescu, to analyze a lot of subjects that are still very topical and outline both genres socially, psychologically and scientifically. The volume contains an introduction, four chapters, conclusions, a references list and an appendix. The themes of this book are focused on both genres and how they coexist or come into conflict. The introduction reveals the intention and motivation of the study in broad terms, such as the desire to observe how men relate to women's emancipation.

In the process of reforming social policies, various actors use media channels to convey their arguments to a wide audience and popularize certain ideas. Not only facts are transmitted, but also a certain image of social reality. This paper explores the main media narratives of the official discourse of ‘active longevity’ in Belarus in the period 2017-2018, with the aim to explore the meanings that they broadcast in society, and what the image of social reality they represent and construct. For the analysis of narratives, semantic content analysis is used, as well as qualitative discourse analysis of texts/articles of The Belarusian Telegraph Agency BelTA and The Belarus Segodnia (‘Belarus Today’) state publishing house incorporated five newspapers. Texts were sampled for the period 1 January 2017 to 31 December 2018. The transmitted narratives in the materials of the official media, together with the comments of journalists, show the activity of older people as a desirable version of reality, as well as their rarity and non-typicality for the contemporary Belarusian society. This conclusion suggests that in this discourse, exactly the official narrative of ‘active longevity’ is the counter-story, designed to overcome the dominant in society popular and most shared narratives. The understanding of ‘active longevity’ offered by official discourse seems to be a simplified version of reality, focusing mainly on categories of labour activity, utility for the society or not burdening the society. This counter-narrative does not re-humanize, but instead of empowering it makes other choices for understanding ‘active longevity’ invisible and insignificant.

Social representations of human rights violations were investigated in a questionnaire study conducted in five countries (Costa Rica, France, Italy, Romania, and Switzerland) (N = 1239 young people). We were able to show that respondents organize their understanding of human rights violations in similar ways across nations. At the same time, systematic variations characterized opinions about human rights violations, and the structure of these variations was similar across national contexts. Differences in definitions of human rights violations were identified by a cluster analysis. A broader definition was related to critical attitudes toward governmental and institutional abuses of power, whereas a more restricted definition was rooted in a fatalistic conception of social reality, approval of social regulations, and greater tolerance for institutional infringements of privacy. An atypical definition was anchored either in a strong rejection of social regulations or in a strong condemnation of immoral individual actions linked with a high tolerance for governmental interference. These findings support the idea that contrasting definitions of human rights coexist and that these definitions are underpinned by a set of beliefs regarding the relationships between individuals and institutions.
