Objective. To explore and compare the influences of individual-level cultural values and personal attitudinal values on the desire for medical information and self-involvement in decision making in Australia and China. Methods. A total of 288 and 291 middle-aged adults from Australia and China, respectively, completed an online survey examining cultural and personal values, and their desired level of self-influence on medical decision making. Structural equation modeling was used to test 15 hypotheses relating to the effects of cultural and personal antecedents on the individual desire for influence over medical decision making. Results. Similar factors in both Australia and China (total variance explained: Australia 29%; China 35%) predicted desire for medical information, with interdependence (unstandardized path coefficient βAustralia = 0.102, P = 0.014; βChina = 0.215, P = 0.001), independence (βAustralia = 0.244, P < 0.001; βChina = 0.123, P = 0.037), and health locus of control (βAustralia = −0.140, P = 0.018; βChina = −0.138, P = 0.007) being significant and positive predictors. A desire for involvement in decisions was only predicted by power distance, which had an opposite effect of being negative for Australia and positive for China (total variance explained: Australia 11%; China 5%; βAustralia = 0.294, P < 0.001; China: βChina = −0.190, P = 0.043). National culture moderated the effect of independence on desire for medical information, which was stronger in Australia than China ( Z score = 1.687, P < 0.05). Conclusions. Study results demonstrate that in both countries, desire for medical information can be influenced by individual-level cultural and personal values, suggesting potential benefits of tailoring health communication to personal mindsets to foster informed decision making. The desired level of self-involvement in decision making was relatively independent of other cultural and personal values in both countries, suggesting caution against cultural stereotypes. Study findings also suggest that involvement preferences in decision making should be considered separately from information needs at the clinical encounter.

People differ in their value hierarchies, i.e., in the importance they attach to basic personal values. A large number of studies were performed to establish similarities and differences between national, ethnic, or professional groups in terms of Schwartz’s values structure. In addition to this sample-level approach, we found it useful to disclose a number of subgroups within those larger social groups, which are more homogeneous in themselves and reflect the individual-level types of personal values systems. The study was performed on university students (n = 1237) who were asked to fill in the SVS и PVQ Schwartz’s questionnaires. The sample was then treated with the K-means cluster analysis, which resulted in the division of the initial sample into three subgroups or clusters according to their values hierarchy being measured separately at the (1) Normative Ideals scale and (2) the scale of Behavioral Priorities. These clusters were equally common among male and female students, but they were unequally found in young people coming from different ethnic groups and regions, demonstrating the role of socio-cultural environment in building up personal values. The results may extend our capabilities for the prediction of the social, economic, and political behavior of the younger generation.

The purpose of the research is to determine the effectiveness of the established integrative model of the musical art teacher’s professional training by means of innovation technologies based on a survey of students, in order to reveal the benefits of using the integrative model in educational institutions. The research methods: comparative analysis; systematization; generalizations, surveys. It has been established that the implementation of an integrative model of the musical art teacher’s professional training by means of innovation technologies demands from students to conduct the preliminary investigation of the topic and its basic understanding, as well as comprehension of how all the “parts” of the topic correlate. As a result of the research conducted, it has been revealed that the integrative model formation of musical art teacher’s professional training by means of innovation technologies is a complex process due to the abundance of variables that should be taken into account both in the curriculum and at the individual level.

Academic achievement is one of the major subjects in the educational researches.Academic achievement is defined as the outcomes of the education. Preventingstudents from failure is related with identifying the factors affecting the achievement.By defining the important factors affecting the students’ achievement, failure can beunder controlled [Ozguven, 1974]. Education is a complex process and many factorsdirectly or indirectly may affect achievement. Besides, it is difficult to properly definethe major factors influencing students' achievement. Although researchers haveidentified several factors affecting the student achievement, there are still somearguments about them. Some researchers attribute the student’s achievement to theschool; others indicate that the school makes little impact on academic outcome. Otherresearchers say that the effective teacher is the only one who can play the main role interms of student progress. All the factors such as teacher, school context, classroomcontext and the community around the school contribute or impact student’sachievement somehow [Harris, 1999]. In all these thoughts, we can see that there arethree common factors affecting the students’ achievement. Factors related withteachers, students and lastly environment. All these factors are affective on thestudents’ grade more or less. In our research, we handle the students’ perspective andsearch for the factors affecting the students’ achievement i n their demographic itemssuch as age, sex, and their academic background such as high school type, grade,University Entrance score, their families’ social and economic status, income, housing, computer knowledge skills and social behaviors and mannerism. The aim of this studyis to find out what kinds of factors have effects on students’ exam success among thestudents at School of Transportation and Logistics by using the path analysis.
