Natural, social, political, technological and economic environment of an organization constantly change making timely and relevant information and knowledge critical for competitive advantage and business success. Such constant changes can cause disruption and with it need for adaptation of business models, digital transformation and improvement of knowledge management systems. Digital business and digital workforce are being even more accentuated with ongoing epidemic and new information technologies emerge to help organizations in achieving their goals. Information technology is an important element of knowledge management that supports its processes of creation, acquisition, storage, sharing and application of organizational knowledge. Other important elements, or classic pillars, are organization, leadership and learning. They all include people and people really are key enablers of development and progress. Technology, processes and people in organization are intertwined;:they change and are changed by each other, and are specific for each organization. Knowledge management makes use of those connections to foster organizational change, but is also influenced and changed by them.

Insider attack and espionage on computer-based information is a major problem for business organizations and governments. Knowledge Management Systems (KMSs) are not exempt from this threat. Prior research presented the Congenial Access Control Model (CAC), a relationship-based access control model, as a better access control method for KMS because it reduces the adverse effect of stringent security measures on the usability of KMSs. However, the CAC model, like other models, e.g., Role Based Access Control (RBAC), Time-Based Access Control (TBAC), and History Based Access Control (HBAC), does not provide adequate protection against privilege abuse by authorized users that can lead to industrial espionage. In this paper, the authors provide an Espionage Prevention Model (EP) that uses Semantic web-based annotations on knowledge assets to store relevant information and compares it to the Friend-Of-A-Friend (FOAF) data of the potential recipient of the resource. It can serve as an additional layer to previous access control models, preferably the Congenial Access Control (CAC) model.

Quality management has evolved throughout time in ways that allowed companies to adapt quality practices and principles into their activities in order to provide better products/services to their customer. The latest trends point to the pivotal role that quality plays in the Industry 4.0 era, where it is expected to synergize with Industry 4.0 practices in order to ensure that not only products are built faster and cheaper but also that they can meet the quality expectations of the customers. This gave birth to the concept of Quality 4.0, a new way of managing quality which uses modern technologies such as: IoT, Blockchain, Big data, AI and sensors in order to gather relevant information, monitor process performance and act preemptively in regard to the quality of the process output. An issue that emerges however, is identifying the relevant data and ways to manage it as this is considered to be a major obstacle in the implementation of Quality 4.0 practices. The research focuses on providing the foundational base for Knowledge management practices of companies looking to embrace Quality 4.0 to ensure that these companies use relevant data in their daily activities.

Most extant knowledge management systems are constrained by their overly rational, static and a contextual view of knowledge. Effectiveness of such systems is constrained by the rapid and discontinuous change that characterizes new organizational environments. The prevailing knowledge management paradigm limits itself by its emphasis on convergence and consensus-oriented processing of information. Strategy experts have underscored that the focus of organizational knowledge management should shift from 'prediction of future' [that cannot be computed] to 'anticipation of surprise.' Such systems may be enabled by leveraging the divergent interpretations of information based upon the meaning-making capability of human beings. By underscoring the need for synergy between innovation and creativity of humans and the advanced capabilities of new information technologies, this chapter advances current thinking about knowledge management.

Many current implementations of organizational knowledge management, although based on the most advanced information technologies, are hobbled by the pervading organizational controls. Such information systems related organizational controls could spell the success or failure of organizational management initiatives despite application of latest groupware and collaboration software. Often, such failures of knowledge management systems implementations arise from incorrect understanding and misapplication of the notion of ‘controls.’ Hence, it is critical to develop a better understanding of information systems related organizational controls so that they can facilitate the success of knowledge management systems implementations. This chapter fills the critical void of incomplete and often incorrect interpretations of organizational controls by developing a better theoretical and conceptual understanding of organizational controls and their pragmatic implications. The chapter also proposes an organic model of organizational controls for design of knowledge management systems that can effectively enable creation of new knowledge, renewal of existing knowledge and knowledge sharing.

AbstractThe scientific-technological knowledge produced by the researches aims at solving problems of the society and contributes to its development. From this on, the process of scientific communication, through formal or informal channels, is essential for the constant evolution of the state of the art of an area. However, not always the information is found in the traditional means of publication, this way, gray literature is a valuable resource for many areas of knowledge. The development and evolution of new information technologies ensure to this kind of communication a dynamic and agile character, allowing the gray literature to reach recognition by the academia. Therefore, it is necessary to manage this type of literature as an alternative to the traditional means of acquiring scientific information. The proposal to create an environment of information retrieval and management of the literature generated in students’ meetings starts from the idea that it is often possible to anticipate trends, that would only be noticed when established means of dissemination publish such researches, often causing a loss of information existing only when the research is in progress or is subtracted when writing articles or books. Thus, the proposed use of the Open Conference Systems program not only allows greater flexibility and dynamism in the organization of events, but also, the development of a digital environment where works presented in the students’ events on library, information science and information management could be posted, allowing interaction among researchers, becoming an alternative to publication, assuming a memorial role for students’ events in the area, besides being a source of relevant information to the academic community.
