The significance of digital assistive technology in everyday life of people with disabilities has been continuously increasing during the last decade. An important example is that of the development of mobile apps which are suitably adapted for use by sensory-deprived people. We are involved in developing two such initiatives. The first offers interactive indoor navigation for blind and visually impaired persons, while the second offers deaf people a user-friendly environment for text depiction of the verbal speech, even when the articulation is defective, which is usually the case when the speaker is deaf. Despite the possible benefits of these apps, this does not necessarily signify automatic acceptance. This study aims to examine factors that may inhibit take up, in order to obviate these as much as possible. Factors contributing to the acceptance of technology may be complex, such as ‘perceived usefulness’, ‘self-efficacy’ and ‘social influence’. An exploratory study of this issue will accrue qualitative evidence from the potential users. The paper concludes by presenting recommendations for the development of a tentative modified Technology Acceptance Model that considers the special circumstances around technology use by disability cohorts, to be tested as the research continues. The e-commerce industry has the potential to be one of the drivers of the domestic economy. One of the impacts of the advancement of e-commerce is the emergence of many online-based marketplaces or so-called e-marketplaces. However, a lot of these online marketplaces sell 90% imported products. In addition, the outbreak of Covid-19 in Indonesia has prompted the government to establish several policies that have significantly reduced MSME performance by up to 70-100%. This study aimed to provide an empirical analysis of the influence of factors based on the Technology of Acceptance Model (TAM) approach, namely e-marketplace self-efficacy, complexity, perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use, attitude towards using, behavioral intention to use, and actual technology use in e-marketplaces. The sample consisted of MSMEs in East Java, especially those engaged in the food and beverage industry sector with ready-to-eat processed food products whose business activities use the Shopee e-marketplace application platform. This is an online shopping marketplace focused on mobile platforms. There were 150 respondents. The Structural Equation Model (SEM) was used. E-marketplace self-efficacy, complexity, perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use, attitude towards using, behavioral intention to use, and actual technology use in e-marketplaces all had positive effects on each other. This showed that a system that offers convenience will improve behavior, habits, and performance for MSMEs in using e-marketplace activities. The theoretical and methodological implications and opportunities for further research are discussed. Keywords: MSMEs, e-marketplace, technology acceptance model

The exponential growth in the use of technology for learning and teaching in the higher education sector has imposed pressure on academics to embrace technology in their teaching. The present study sought to examine factors underlying technology acceptance in learning and teaching at a historically disadvantaged university in the Eastern Cape Province of South Africa. Premised on the mixed methods approach and undergirded by the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM), both a pre-coded and an open-ended questionnaire were used to collect data. Data from the pre-coded questionnaire were analysed through the descriptive statistical approach. The qualitative data from the open-ended questionnaire were analysed through content analysis. The study found that most academic staff believe and see the value that ICTs bring in their teaching and learning practices. In addition, they are aware that technology use in education improves learning and teaching, and they are willing to embrace the use of technology to improve their practices. Based on the findings, we recommend intensification of lecturer training in the use of technology for teaching and learning to enable them to embrace it in their teaching practice. Furthermore, the institution needs to put in place support systems for academic staff to empower them to have continuous access to devices and internet connection for technology integration in teaching and learning. We recommend establishment of e-learning communities of practise in the university that will allow lecturers to assist each other as well as share best practices in the use of technology for teaching and learning.

Rapid developments and change have culminated new applications of information technologies. This trend is reflected in the plethora of innovative studies. Literature indicates that small- to medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) perceive human resources information systems (HRIS) as complicated and time consuming, resulting in resistance from both users and employees. The purpose of this article is to identify necessary acceptance conditions for a successful implementation of the HRIS software within SMEs in Turkey. SMEs compose 99% of all companies in Turkey. Fierce rivalry within sectors gives rise to increased technology use to gain a competitive advantage. This study contributes to an efficient implementation of widely used HRIS in SMEs and offers solutions for implementation failures, including user resistance and idle system problems. This study attempts to apply the technology acceptance model to 112 SMEs that implement HRIS exclusively with all the submodules. This research analyzes success factors for an effective HRIS implementation by testing the latest integrated model of expanded technology acceptance. It concludes that there is a positive and robust correlation between acceptance and use of technology variables and user satisfaction. The results of this study are useful not only for the managers but also for the manufacturers, technical support, online support, and aftersales services as they are advised to develop strategies for user satisfaction.

The advancement of smartphone technology has an impact in the field of education, especially in application-based interactive learning media. Based on the results of interviews at the Paya Laba Public Elementary School (SDN), some of the students have difficulty in using interactive learning media based on applications, ranging from operating skills, equipment, habits, benefits and others. Thus, to measure the level of acceptance of the use of interactive learning applications for reading, writing and arithmetic skills at SDN Paya Laba culd conducted by using a theoretical method which described the level of technology acceptance, namely the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM). However, the study aims to analyze the implementation of interactive learning reading, writing, arithmetic based on android applications. The test was run by measuring the influence between variables in the TAM model, which labelling as Perceived Ease of Use, Perceived Usefulness, and Attitude towards Using Technology, Behavioral Intention to Use and Actual Technology Use. The data in this study were obtained from questionnaires which filled out by the respondents. The data analyzed with Structural Equation Modeling approach based on Partial Least Square (PLS-SEM) by using the SmartPLS application. The stages of data analysis started from designing the structural model, designing the measurement model, evaluating the measurement model, evaluating the structural model, and testing the hypothesis. From the research results based on the seven proposed hypotheses, there are six hypotheses declared accepted and one hypothesis rejected.

The main purpose of the study was to examine the role of mobile technology in shopping of grocery items among consumers. The objectives of the study were accomplished by using the technology acceptance model (TAM) which was used as the base of the study to test how Indian consumers perceive the use of technology in shopping of grocery using mobile applications (mobile apps). The research design is descriptive in nature. The respondents were selected through purposive and snowball sampling. Primary data were collected through self-administered questionnaire, and 346 usable responses were recorded. The data were analysed using the partial least square structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) approach. All the hypotheses of TAM were supported. Additionally, perceived usefulness and attitude were found to partially mediate the relationships. The study concluded that consumers are well adapted to use of mobile apps for general shopping but influence of mobile app as a tool was found limited in grocery sector in consistence to previous studies. This shows that there may be other reasons that reduce the use of mobile apps for grocery shopping other than technology. The study theoretically extends the knowledge of consumer behaviour in emerging field of m-commerce, and practically, it will help the m-commerce practitioners to understand need of the consumer.
