The use of Information & Communication Technologies and active learning methodologies are among the main challenges faced at university level in the new European Higher Education Area (EHEA), which promotes a learning process in which the student becomes a proactive subject in their own education. One of these methodologies is what is known as a WebQuest, a system that allows to integrate ICT in web-based research and problem-solving activities, thereby fostering collaborative work. The purpose of this project was to describe a teaching experience on the use of WebQuest in a university setting, in the field of Financial Accounting and as part of a training and skills-assessment model known as MANagement of COMpetence in the areas of Accounting (MANCOMA).

This paper presents the phases involved in the design of a methodology to contribute both to the acquisition of competencies and to their assessment in the field of Financial Accounting, within the European Higher Education Area (EHEA) framework, which we call MANagement of COMpetence in the areas of Accounting (MANCOMA). Having selected and defined the competencies to be acquired by students in our subject, we break them down into sub-competencies, and the latter in turn into indicators, allowing us to design activities to be offered to students for the development of competencies and their subsequent assessment. Our work therefore centred on the design of a model for the "Financial Accounting III" subject belonging to the Accounting module of the syllabus for a Degree in Business Administration and Management.

Adaptation of teacher training degrees to the EHEA: ICT in the new study plansAbstractThis paper analyzes the adaptation process of the old preservice teacher degrees to the new ones adapted to the European Higher Education Area, in particular, about the presence of subjects related with Information and Communication Technologies. The analysis of the collected data shows that this process has involved dispersion in the presence of these subjects according to the university and speciality.

The European Higher Education Area has caused changes in higher education, what involves new adaptations in the teaching-learning process because now the main aim is "learn to learn". This chapter presents a comprehensive view of the main activities and findings of a research project entitled TRACER-Portuguese Public Higher Education Use of Communication Technologies, which focused on how the information about the use of Communication Technologies in Higher Education Institutions can be collected, systematized, processed, and deployed to stakeholders. The project was carried out between 2011 and 2014 and its main results are a consolidated proposal of an analysis model to address the use of Communication Technologies in Higher Education institutions, as well as the U-TRACER® tool. This Web-based tool provides support to the process of collecting, processing, and deployment of data related with the use of Communication Technologies in a specific Higher Education or in a group of institutions, based on institutional or geographical criteria.

This paper proposes the deployment of learning management systems to provide virtual environment to higher education in Iraq. In this paper we show that implementing a learning management system (LMS) to manage learning process is within reach even with little material and human resources. This paper proposes an open source popular and free of charge platform called Moodle. We also show that other solutions such as web-based alternatives to LMS are completely unaffordable given the limited financial resources of our universities. The system is aimed for use by university level students and educators (teachers and instructors). Further, a deployment plan is given in this paper to provide a guidance and reference for the implementation requirements and steps of this LMS operation.

The training of university professors is the principal way to change and to improve the education in the framework of the European Higher Education Area (EHEA). However, there are several factors that can impede their training and, therefore, their impact on students and society. In this sense, this paper describes that possible difficulties may arise regarding variables such as: years of teaching experience, age, gender, area of knowledge in which they teach, professional figure or university training received. For this, an ad hoc questionnaire was developed that was applied to 501 university professors. The results showed how the lack of time and nearby training offers are the main impediments to better training. Despite having been a teacher for a short time or preferring another type of training, they also showed significance within the variables studied. In this way, the authors of this work conclude that incentives should be expanded so that teachers are motivated in order to improve their teaching quality through new active methodologies, in addition to establishing solid plans in the offer of academic training of the universities.

The contemporary society addresses complex, interrelated, and interactive global situations to be faced by its citizens. Instead of pursuing solitary actions, this post-modern turn requires its actors to develop capacities to resituate their activities in collective unities and to successfully communicate their actions within these multiple local and global communities. Also in education, the concept of community continues to possess a positive image and the optimistic premises of how communication technologies may enable communities to grow have been widely discussed. For example, in higher education, educational practices (e.g. Virtual University) are more often fixed around Web-based collaborative learning environments, based on the broad frame of computer-supported collaborative learning (CSCL) approach. It is put forward in this chapter that in higher education, technology-enhanced learning communities, if seen as an extension of the idea of Web-based collaborative learning environments, could be welcomed as timely and innovative educational practices - as relevant paths to successful collaborative learning.
