Introduction: Uremic pruritus is an unpleasant sensation that has been recognized as a frequent complication in patients with chronic kidney disease. This study was undertaken to determine the effect of topical applications for reducing pruritus.Methods: A systematic review was conducted by searching Science Direct, Scopus and Google Scholar to create an integrative 12 articles review focusing on a 10 year period from 2009 to 2018. The language used was English and the studies focused on pruritus, itching, hydration, chronic kidney disease and where the patient did not undergo a kidney transplant. The articles in this systematic review were experimental studies (pre-experimental, true experimental and quasi-experimental).Results: Most of the findings of the studies showed that a topical application for reducing uremic pruritus (clove oil, almond oil, cromolyn sodium 4%, baby oil, sweet almond oil, vinegar and avenasativa, glycerol and paraffin, sericin cream and chia seed oil) can be used as an adjuvant moisturizing agents for pruritis.Conclusion: Topical applications have a positive effect on itching and decreased pruritus. Topical applications are simple, safe, inexpensive and easily applied, so it can be used on many people.

AbstractExtracellular vesicle (EV)-based therapy was hypothesized as a promising regenerative approach which has led to intensive research of EVs in various pathologies. In this study, we performed a comprehensive systematic review of the current experimental evidence regarding the protective properties of EVs in chronic kidney disease (CKD). We evaluated the EV-based experiments, EV characteristics, and effector molecules with their involvement in CKD pathways. Including all animal records with available creatinine or urea data, we performed a stratified univariable meta-analysis to assess the determinants of EV-based therapy effectiveness. We identified 35 interventional studies that assessed nephroprotective role of EVs and catalogued them according to their involvement in CKD mechanism. Systematic assessment of these studies suggested that EVs had consistently improved glomerulosclerosis, interstitial fibrosis, and cell damage, among different CKD models. Moreover, EV-based therapy reduced the progression of renal decline in CKD. The stratified analyses showed that the disease model, administered dose, and time of therapeutic intervention were potential predictors of therapeutic efficacy. Together, EV therapy is a promising approach for CKD progression in experimental studies. Further standardisation of EV-methods, continuous improvement of the study quality, and better understanding of the determinants of EV effectiveness will facilitate preclinical research, and may help development of clinical trials in people with CKD. Introduction: The number of patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) who undergo hemodialysis is increasing every year. Various attempts have been made to maximize the process of hemodialysis, one of which is by providing complementary therapy with music as therapy and through the administration of aromatherapy. The aim of this study was to identify the effectiveness of the use of music therapy and aromatherapy in a patient diagnosed with chronic kidney disease undergoing hemodialysis.Methods: The literature review followed on from the identification of the interventions then the studies were identified by keyword according to the topic and title. There were 15 articles that discussed the effect of music therapy and aromatherapy on patients undergoing hemodialysis. The design RCT was 7 articles, 3 quasi-experimental articles, and 5 clinical trial articles.Results: Music can raise the endorphin and serotonin levels and reduce the catecholamine levels, so it can change the respiratory rate and oxygen saturation, improve their quality of sleep and reduce fatigue.Conclusion: Our findings indicate that music therapy and aromatherapy have a positive effect on patients with chronic kidney disease undergoing hemodialysis.

Introduction : A large number of patients with chronic kidney disease suffer from uremic pruritus, which adversely affects the quality of life and comfort of patients with a potential psychological, functional and social impact, which results in increased morbidity. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of the administration of turmeric essential oil aromatherapy which was applied topically pruritus, comfort and quality of life of CKD patients.Methods : This study used a quasi-experimental design with 2 groups (intervention and control), conducted in CKD patients receiving hemodialysis therapy. A total sample of 72 respondents with the division of each group of 36 people. The intervention was carried out independently by the patient for 2 weeks. Measurement using 5-D pruritus scale questionnaire.Results : This study showed a decrease in pruritus scale in 51 respondents (70.8%) after 2 weeks of therapy. Independent t statistical test obtained a significance value of 0.046 (p <0.05).Conclusion: Topical aromatherapy of turmeric oil affects pruritus scale on patients with chronic kidney disease who experience uremic pruritus.

Abnormalities in mineral metabolism, soft tissue calcifications, and bone health are common in people with chronic kidney disease (CKD). In this scenario, osteoporosis is a highly prevalent skeletal disorder characterized by reduced bone strength predisposing patients to adverse health outcomes. We will summarize the evidence of the prevalence of osteoporosis in adults with CKD. Methods: We will perform a comprehensive literature search using MEDLINE, EMBASE, Web of Science, CINAHL, and LILACS databases, without date or language restrictions from inception until January 2021. We will include cross-sectional, case–control, or cohort studies that report prevalence data of osteoporosis in adults aged ≥18 years with CKD in stages 3a–5, including those receiving kidney replacement therapies. We will exclude conference abstracts and experimental studies. The primary outcome will be the prevalence of osteoporosis according to the World Health Organization criteria (T-score ≤ −2.5). Two independent reviewers will screen title and abstract, full-text review, critical appraisal of the quality of studies, risk of bias, heterogeneity, and data extraction. The quality of the included studies will be assessed with the Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) appraisal checklist. The overall prevalence of the studies will be synthesized using random-effects meta-analysis. This systematic review will be reported according to the guidelines for Meta-Analyses and Systematic Reviews of Observational Studies (MOOSE) and the JBI methodological guidance for systematic reviews of observational epidemiological studies. The qualitative and quantitative results will be synthesized and presented in tables, figures or graphs.
