Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui tingkat efisiensi dan produktivitas perusahaan asuransi jiwa antara konvensional dan syariah (baik Unit Usaha Syariah maupun Full Fledge) periode 2014 – 2017. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif dengan metode non parametrik DEA (Data Envelopment Analysis) yang dilandaskan dengan asumsi CRS (Constant Return to Scale) dan VRS (Variable Return to Scale) dan Indeks Malmquist asumsi TFPC (Total Factor Productivity Change) dengan diolah menggunakan aplikasi DEAP Versi 2.1. Variabel yang digunakan meliputi Total Aset, Beban, Klaim, Premi/Dana Tabrru’, dan Pendapatan. Subjek yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini sebanyak 29 perusahaan asuransi jiwa syariah yang terdiri 10 perusahaan asuransi jiwa syariah dan 19 perusahaan asuransi jiwa konvensional. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa rata-rata perusahaan asuransi jiwa konvensional dan syariah belum mencapai efisien (CRS) dan rata-rata TFPC perusahaan asuransi jiwa konvensional sudah mencapai produktivitas sementara syariah belum mencapai produktivitas.Keywords:Asuransi Jiwa Syariah, Efisiensi, Produktivitas, Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA), Constant Return to Scale (CRS), Variable Return to Scale (VRS), Malmquist Index (MI), Total Factor Productivity Change (TFPC)

Egypt’s heavy reliance on energy- and capital-intensive industries currently hinders its drive towards achieving sustainable development goals. This paper studies environmental total factor productivity (ETFP) for ten energy-intensive industries using the Malmquist index and data envelopment analysis (DEA) for the period 2002-2014. Through incorporating CO2 emissions by energy intensive industries, DEA helps identify both environmentally-efficient and inefficient industries. Findings indicate that: i) ETFP has remained almost unchanged for the 10 industries, with ‘technical progress’ improvement almost fully outweighed by an efficiency deterioration, ii) excluding the environmental component indeed yields overestimated total factor productivity (TFP). In its estimation of ETFP, the paper adds to exiting empirical literature since no similar estimation has been done for Egypt. Results may be relevant to other countries with similar industrial structures. Policy implications include the reliance on renewable sources of energy, bearing directly on the achievement of the seventh, ninth and twelfth SDG goals. Sektor pariwisata sebagai salah satu sektor yang diandalkan bagi penerimaan daerah maka pemerintah Provinsi Jawa Tengah dituntut untuk dapat menggali dan mengelola potensi wisata yang dimiliki. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganilisis tingkat efisiensi dan produktivitas pada sektor pariwisata di Jawa Tengah antara tahun 2017 dan 2019 dengan sampel 35 Kabupaten/Kota. Analisis dilakukan dengan menggunakan konsep efisiensi yang didasarkan pada teori produksi, pengukuran nilai efisiensi dan produktivitas diperoleh menggunakan metode analisis Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) dan Malmquist Productivity Index (MPI). Asumsi yang digunakan adalah variable return to scale (VRTS) dan model orientasi output (output oriented). Dengan variable input objek wisata, restoran dan rumah makan, biro perjalanan wisata dan jumlah hotel bintang serta melati. Variabel output dalam penelitian ini adalah wisatawan dan pendapatan sektor pariwisata. Hasil akhir penelitian menunjukkan bahwa terdapat 16 Kabupaten/Kota (45,8%) di tahun 2017, 18 Kabupaten/Kota (51,4%) di tahun 2019 yang mencapai efisiensi teknis penuh. Total Factor productivity change mengindikasikan bahwa 22 Kabupaten/Kota (62,8%) mendekati frontier baik pada frontier produksi maupun frontier efisiensi dan dari scale efficiency change mengindikasikan bahwa terdapat 17 Kabupaten/Kota (48,57%) mengalami perbaikan efisiensi teknis selama periode 2017 ke 2019.

The present study gives an account of IT and ICT infrastructure in India and points out the reasons for the boom in the IT exports and outsourcing business today and in times to come. The article analyzes the performances of the Indian IT industry by working out the technical efficiency of the software and telecommunication firms using the mathematical model of the Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA). The DEA is a non linear programming way of calculating technical efficiency of the decision making units. The study also examines the impact of various determinants on technical efficiency of software firms and net exports across the IT firms and further examines the determinants for new technology adoption by telecommunication industries, because the success of the software firms in terms of its exports is intertwined with the performance of telecommunication industry. The study uses a Malmquist index to estimate total factor productivity (TFP) change for the common set of software firms existing between 1996 and 2006 using a prowess data base. The total factor productivity is decomposed into efficiency change (catching up phenomena) and technical change (innovations) for the common set of software firms existing between 1996 and 2006 in India. At the end the study works out the performance of the Indian ICT sector in comparison with countries which are front runners using the DEA and global information technology report 2006 data base. The study will quantify the changes needed in the relatively good Indian ICT environment and ICT readiness to increase its ICT usage among individuals, business and government. The article confirms the improvements in productivity, efficiency, and technical change of the Indian Software industry from 1996 to 2006.

This research aims to calculate and analyze the level of technical efficiency and total factor productivity change of manufacture industry, and to examine the factors that influence the value of technical efficiency of manufacture industry in East Java. The method used for this research is Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) and Malmquist Index with Bootstrapping approach, and Tobit regression. This research used micro data from Indonesian Large and Medium-Scale Industry Survey within the year of 2007 to 2013. The results of this research are: (1) the estimated result of DEA with bootstrapping approach using output-oriented variable return to scale (VRS) assumption shows that the level of technical efficiency of manufacture industry in East Java has been not good enough and overall, it still has the potential to increase its output to reach an efficient condition; (2) the estimated result of Tobitregression demonstrates that the level of technical efficiency of the company is influenced by the company’s size, HHI, capital labor ratio, export and types of company ownership; (3) the estimated result of Malmquist Index with Bootstrapping approach shows that theaverage of total factor productivity change (TFPCH) of manufacture industry from 2007 to 2013 hasexhibited a positive change. The main factor that affects TFPCH, in order, are technological change, efficiency change, and efficiency scale change.

Over the past five years, banks experienced a change in the composition of bank income earning more in service fees compared to interest income. The effect of this change on the efficiency of bank regions is investigated. Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) and the TFP (Total Factor Productivity) index decomposition methodology were used to estimate efficiency and to decompose productivity change into its different components. Two models were specified one for the traditional function of a bank and one for the non-traditional function of a bank. It appears that some bank regions experienced improvement in efficiency under the non-traditional model, meaning that the change in the composition of bank income can result in improved efficiency.

This study estimates Malmquist index of total factor productivity change of 14 major general insurers in India over the period 2009–10 to 2016–17 over 7 annual windows. The study decomposes total factor productivity index into its constituent components, using several approaches including Färe et al. (1989, Productivity Developments in Swedish Hospitals: A Malmquist Output Index Approach. Carbondale: Department of Economics, Southern Illinois University; 1992, Journal of Productivity Analysis 3(1): 85–101), Färe et al. (1994, American Economic Review 84(1): 66–83), Ray and Desli (1997, American Economic Review 87(5): 1033–39) and Wheelock and Wilson (1999, Journal of Money, Credit and Banking 31(2): 212–23). Furthermore, the study uses bootstrap data envelopment analysis (DEA) method to obtain bias-corrected point and interval estimates of Malmquist index and its components. Finally, the study makes a comparison of productivity performance between public and private sector insurers. The results indicate a modest growth in total factor productivity during the period contributed mainly by efficiency changes. The private sector insurers performed better than the public sector in terms of productivity growth. The variations in productivity performance indicate that insurer scale of activity can affect their performance. JEL Classification: G-23, C-61, D-21

This paper calculates and decomposes the Total Factor Productivity (TFP) for large and medium scale industry in Indonesia covering the period of 2000-2009. By using Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA)  method, the result shows there is a shift of the supporting factors on the growth of TFP on manufacturing sector within the 2 (two) sample period. In the period of 2000-2004, efficiency change becomes the main contributor on the growth of TFP. Whereas in the period of 2005-2009, technical change becomes the main supporting factor of TFP,however it goes along with the growth of negative efficiency change or the decline of the company’s catching-up effect ability to adapt with the more advance technology. The grouping of the sample across subsectors, technical change and also efficiency change shows the declining amount of manufacture industry with superior productivity.
