The experiment was conducted to find out the effect of variety, nitrogen level and harvesting time on yield and seed quality of barley. The treatments used in the experiment consisted of two varieties viz. BARI Barley 4 and BARI Barley 5, three harvesting time viz. 35, 40 and 45 Days after Anthesis (DAA) and nitrogen levels viz. 0, 70, 85 and 100 kg N ha-1 . The experiment was laid out in a spilt- spilt-plot design with three replications assigning the variety to the main plot, harvesting time to the sub-plots and nitrogen level to the sub-sub plots. Variety had significant effects on the all yield attributes except fertile seeds spike-1 . Seed quality parameters viz. normal seeds spike-1 , deformed seeds spike-1 , germination (%) and vigour index were statistically significant. The variety BARI Barley 5 produced higher grain yield and seed quality than BARI Barley 4. Grain yield from BARI Barley 5 and BARI Barley 4 were 4.59 t ha-1 and 4.24 t ha-1 , respectively. Significantly, the highest 1000-seed weight (46.90 g) was produced by BARI Barley 5 than (37.90 g) BARI Barley 4. The result revealed that harvesting time had significant effect on yield and yield attributes and seed quality parameters. Seed yield was highest (4.65 t ha-1 ) when the crop harvested at 40 DAA and it was increased linearly from 35 DAA. Maximum quality seed and 1000-seed weight (43.20 g) was obtained when the crop harvested at 40 DAA. All the yields, yield attributes and seed quality parameters were significantly influenced by nitrogen levels. The highest grain yield (5.14 t ha-1 ) was obtained when BARI Barley 5 variety was fertilized by 100 kg N ha-1 and the lowest (3.14 t ha-1 ) was obtained from control treatments. Normal seeds spike-1 , vigour index, germination (%) were better at 85 kg N ha-1 in variety of BARI Barley 5 than BARI Barley 4. So it can be concluded that BARI Barley 5 showed better result when fertilized with 100 kg N ha-1 and harvested at 40 DAA for getting maximum yield and 85 kg N ha-1 and harvested at 40 DAA for getting better quality seed.

The present study on Performance evaluation of Sweetcorn with different levels of Irrigation and nitrogen through drip during post monsoon season at Rajendranagar, Hyderabad, India was conducted for two years at Maize Research Centre, Agricultural Research Institute (ARI), Rajendranagar, Hyderabad to assess the influence of different levels of irrigation and nitrogen on performance of sweetcorn hybrid. Randomized block design with factorial concept was used in the study and the experiment was replicated thrice. The treatments used were two factors. Factor I was five irrigation levels viz., I1: Drip irrigation at 60% E pan, I2: Drip irrigation at 80% E pan, I3: Drip irrigation at 100% E pan, I4:Drip irrigation at 120% E pan andI5: Surface irrigation at IW/CPE- 1.0 and Factor II was four nitrogen levels in kg ha-1 viz., N1: 120, N2: 160 N3: 200 N4: 240. Pooled mean of two years revealed that, drip irrigation with 120% E pan which was on par with 100% E pan showed significantly better crop performance in terms of growth characteristics like plant height, Leaf Area Index and dry matter production and both were superior to drip irrigation of 80 and 60% E pan as well as surface irrigation method. Among the yield attributes, cob girth and 100 seed weight were not influenced either with irrigation or nitrogen and their interaction. Cob length, number of seeds row-1, green cob and fodder yield were higher with drip irrigation of 120% E pan but were on par with 100% E pan. Among the different nitrogen levels, nitrogen at the rate of 240 kg ha-1recorded significantly higher growth parameters, yield attributes, green cob and fodder yield but it was on par with 200 kg ha-1 and both were superior over 160 and 120 kg N ha-1. Drip irrigation of 100% E pan and a nitrogen level of 200 kg ha-1 resulted in higher gross and net returns and benefit cost ratio compared to other irrigation and nitrogen treatments. From the study, drip irrigation of 100% E pan with 200 kg N ha-1is recommended for getting higher yields and net income in sweetcorn hybrid grown in Southern Agro climatic zone of Telangana, India.

Nitrogen (N) and zinc (Zn) are the two major yield-limiting factors of flooded rice cultivation systems. Both nutrients interact and affect availability of the other in alkaline calcareous soils. In order to evaluate the interactive effects of N and Zn on yield and quality of Basmati rice, a field study was conducted at Sheikhupura (Site I) and Sargodha (Site II), Pakistan. Nitrogen treatments (0, 40, 80, 120 and 160 kg/ha) were kept in main blocks while zinc levels (0, 8, 10, 12 and 14 kg/ha) were kept in sub blocks. The main effects of N and Zn levels were significant for grain yield and yield attributes. N and Zn interaction significantly improved the grain yield, yield components and all kernel quality parameters, except kernel amylose contents. Combined application of 120 kg N/ha and 14 kg Zn/ha produced the maximum grain yields at both sites (6.12 and 5.78 t/ha). This combination also yielded the maximum kernel lengths and widths, water absorption ratio and kernel protein contents. There was a significant positive correlation between grain yield and total dry matter, panicle-bearing tillers, spikelets panicle, grain weight, and harvest index. Application of 160 kg N/ha was detrimental to yield and quality attributes and reduced the agronomic efficiency of N use at both sites. Site comparison showed that soil pH and soil nutrient contents play a significant role in determination of the optimum nitrogen and zinc fertilizer doses for maximum yields.

Fertigation was found technically and economically feasible for tomato cultivation in winter as well as in summer. An experiment was conducted with summer tomato (BARI Hybrid Tomato–4) having 2 drip irrigation levels with different levels of NPK and micronutrient (B, Zn, and Mg) during kharif-1 seasons of 2007 and 2008. The fertilizer levels were N100 P55 K120 kg/ha, N100 P55 K120 B1 Zn4 Mg4 kg/ha, N100 P70 K140 kg/ha and N100 P70 K140 B2 Zn6 Mg8 kg/ha and the irrigation levels were drip irrigation at 2 days interval and drip irrigation at 3 days interval. The highest marketable yield of summer tomato (35.90 t/ha and 27.12 t/ha) were obtained from the fertigation treatment with fertilizer doses of N100 P55 K120 B1 Zn4 Mg4 kg/ha irrigated at 2 days interval in 2007 and 2008. The cull yield was also the lowest (2.53 t/ha and 1.15 t/ha) in this treatment in both the years. The lowest tomato yield (20.50 t/ha and 18.29 t/ha) were obtained from the treatment with fertilizer doses N100 P70 K140 kg/ha irrigated at 2 days interval where no micronutrients were used. Fruit quality parameters like TSS, Vitamin-C and ?-carotene were also the highest for the best yielder. So, use of micronutrients with NPK showed a significant effect on quality fruits as well as yield of summer tomato. The best yielder treatment received 261.0 mm of seasonal water including an effective rainfall of 60.5 mm during the crop seasons. The highest BCR (4.41) was also found in the same treatment. A field experiment was conducted at Agricultural College Farm, Bapatla (Andhra Pradesh), study the effect of different sowing dates on the yield and quality of different varieties of clusterbean. The experiment was laid out in factorial randomized block design replicated thrice, six dates of sowing from 15th September to 1st December at fifteen days interval and two clusterbean varieties viz. RGC-936 and RGC-1003. Results revealed that growth parameters, yield attributes, yield (1568 kg ha-1) and quality parameters viz. gum content (31.6 %), protein content (30.1 %) and viscosity (3783 cP) were highest with RGC-1003 sown at 15thNovember, which was at par with 1st December sowing with same variety. The study results showed that the clusterbean crop can be grown successfully in non-traditional area as a rabi crop.

Field experiments were conducted at Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Coimbatore, India during the North East Monsoon (October-December) seasons of 1997 and 1998 in a split plot design to study the effect of planting pattern and N splits on the yield attributes, yield and quality of rainfed sunflower. The main plot consisted of three plant populations (133,333 plants ha-1, 111,111 plants ha-1 and 88,888 plants ha-1) and the sub-plot treatments of six N split levels. The results revealed that the yield attributes of sunflower were higher at the closest spacing of 30 × 25 cm than at the widest spacing of 30 × 37.5 cm. The seed yield was higher at closer (30 × 25 cm) spacing in 1997 and at wider spacing (30 × 37.5 cm) in 1998. In both years the split application of nitrogen resulted in higher growth, yield attributes, seed yield and quality parameters when compared to full basal application.

To study the effect of cutting frequencies and nitrogen levels on growth, green and seed yield and quality of upland water spinach (Ipomoea reptans Poir.) an experiment was undertaken with four cutting frequencies (C0 = no cutting; C1 = one cutting at 45 days after sowing (DAS); C2 = two cutting at 45 and 65 DAS and C3 = three cutting at 45, 65 and 85 DAS) and five nitrogen levels (N0 = no application; N1 = 50 kg/ha; N2 = 100 kg/ha; N3 = 150 kg/ha and N4 = 200 kg/ha). Results revealed that all growth, seed yield and seed quality attributes were found to decrease significantly with higher cutting frequencies, whereas, reverse effects on all physiological attributes, green yield and its quality parameters. On the other hand, nitrogen level (upto 150 kg N/ha) had significant effect and all these parameters. The highest green yield was recorded at three cuttings and 150 kg N/ha individually and also at their interaction (16.34, 12.57 and 17.77 t/ha, respectively). Maximum value of quality parameter like vitamin A (3072.9 μg/100 g) was recorded in one cutting with 150 kg N/hectare, whereas, maximum ascorbic acid was recorded maximum (45.31 mg/100 g) in one cutting without N fertilizer application Maximum net profit of Rs. 114324.00 with B: C ratio of 2.22:1 was obtained with combination of three cuttings and 150 kg N/ha and that may be adopted for its commercial cultivation in medium to upland situation under terai region of West Bengal.
