Teacher education institutions are mandated to produce the best graduates to ensure that only the best inputs into the teaching profession are hired. However, the issue of teacher inputs in the teaching profession could be traced to how teacher education institutions admit their students. The research looked into the students’ age, sex, course, school graduated, parents’ educational attainment, parents’ monthly income, high school Grade Point Average, College Grade Point Average for the first semester, attitudes towards the teaching profession and the performance of the students in the Teaching Aptitude Test (TAT). A significant relationship between the profile of the respondents and the teaching aptitude was found. The study utilized the descriptive correlational design. The respondents composed of the freshman students enrolled in SY 2013 – 2014, answered a survey questionnaire on the profile. The performance in the Teaching Aptitude Test was based on the examination results secured from the College Guidance Office. Frequency counts; percentages, weighted means, and multiple regression analyses were used to analyze the data obtained. The profile of the College of Education freshmen revealed that majority are of age range of 15-19, female, graduates of a national high school, with parents who are either college undergraduates or college graduates, with parents whose income range below P10000, have Good performance in high school, have Good performance in college in the first semester, and Highly Favorable teaching aptitude. The respondents had Low performance in the aptitude test. In general, no significant correlation was found between the profile and the teaching aptitude. However, monthly income and attitudes towards teaching significantly predicted the teaching aptitude. The study recommended the development and validation of a localized teaching aptitude test. Another research correlating the teaching aptitude test results with other variables is suggested.

Three forms of the QT (1, 2, and 3) were administered to a randomly selected sample of 42 black entering freshmen at a Midwestern university. Scholastic Aptitude Test scores and high school rank were also used as predictor variables for grade point average. The results indicated that the Quick Test provides a better prediction of first semester college grades than either high school rank or the aptitude test scores.

This predictive study explored the influence of three admission variables on the college grade point average (CGPA), and licensure examination ratings of the 2015 teacher education graduates in a state-run university in Northern Philippines. The admission variables were high school grade point average (HSGPA), admission test (IQ) scores, and standardized test (General Scholastic Aptitude - GSA) scores. The participants were from two degree programs – Bachelor in Elementary Education (BEE) and Bachelor in Secondary education (BSE). The results showed that the graduates’ overall HSGPA were in the proficient level, while their admission and standardized test scores were average. Meanwhile, their mean licensure examination ratings were satisfactory, with high (BEE – 80.29%) and very high (BSE – 93.33%) passing rates. In both degree programs, all entry variables were significantly correlated and linearly associated with the CGPAs and licensure examination ratings of the participants. These entry variables were also linearly associated with the specific area GPAs and licensure ratings, except in the specialization area (for BSE). Finally, in both degrees, CGPA and licensure examination ratings were best predicted by HSGPA and standardized test scores, respectively. The implications of these findings on admission policies are herein discussed.

Background: As nursing programs in Indonesia admit students, it is important that student factors are identified that provide information about necessary resources that are needed to support the student, both academically and psychosocially, to succeed in the nursing program. Obejctive: The purpose of this study was to use regression analysis to analyze admission and academic data of two cohorts of nursing students to know what relationship that information has with first semester grade point average (GPA).Methods: A descriptive correlation design was used. In a previous study with one cohort of nursing students, the researcher found that the variables accounted for only 28% of the variance. This research added the variable of age, increased the categories for region of origin from five to seven, increased the categories for type of high school from three to four, and analyzed the data from two cohorts. Data from 947 students were included for analysis.  Mulivariate linear regression was used to analyze the variables of city of origin, attendance at pre-nursing course, gender, age, type of high school, and admission exam scores to determine the relationship, if any, between the first semester GPA of nursing students in a large university in an urban area of Indonesia. Results: A significant relationship (p<.05) was found between experience factors, attribute factors, and academic metric factors and first semester GPA. For students admitted in 2016, the study variables accounted for 30% of the variance in GPA; for students admitted in 2017, the study variables accounted for 37% of the variance in GPA.Conclusion: It is important that student factors are identified that provide information about succeeding in the nursing program, both academically and psychosocially.  Additional research is needed to identify other admission factors and any factors in the first semester that may also have a relationship with GPA.

<p style="text-align: justify;">The article aims to develop a machine-learning algorithm that can predict student’s graduation in the Industrial Engineering course at the Federal University of Amazonas based on their performance data. The methodology makes use of an information package of 364 students with an admission period between 2007 and 2019, considering characteristics that can affect directly or indirectly in the graduation of each one, being: type of high school, number of semesters taken, grade-point average, lockouts, dropouts and course terminations. The data treatment considered the manual removal of several characteristics that did not add value to the output of the algorithm, resulting in a package composed of 2184 instances. Thus, the logistic regression, MLP and XGBoost models developed and compared could predict a binary output of graduation or non-graduation to each student using 30% of the dataset to test and 70% to train, so that was possible to identify a relationship between the six attributes explored and achieve, with the best model, 94.15% of accuracy on its predictions.</p>

This study explored the impact of Advanced Placement and honors course enrollment and high school grade point average (GPA) on first-semester college GPA. Data were collected from 131 college freshmen enrolled at a minority-serving institution who graduated from a public school during the previous academic year. A four-step hierarchical multiple regression analysis indicated that family structure, college status, enrollment in one or more Advanced Placement courses, and enrollment in five or more honors courses accounted for a significant amount of variance explained in first-semester college GPA, both individually and in combination. High school GPA intervened in these variables relationships with first-semester college GPA accounting for a significant amount of variance. Based on these findings, opportunities for future research and implications for K–12 schools and colleges are provided.

The present analysis examined grade point averages (GPA), subject-matter test scores, and attendance for 274 students enrolled in a high school at the beginning of the 1992–1993 school year by the number of hours worked per week in the previous year (1991–92) and in the current school year (1992–1993). The over-all outcomes indicated that working fewer than 10 hours per week had small adverse effects on each measure. Students working from 10 to 20 hours per week had lower grade point averages and attendance. Students working over 20 hours per week had depressed test scores and grade point averages and more absences than other students who worked less or did not work.

This study investigated the relationship between the Scholastic Aptitude Test scores of the National Organization for Education Evaluation of the Iranian Ministry of Sciences and Higher Education and the grade point average (GPA) of the twelfth grade National Examinations of the Iranian Ministry of Education. The test scores of 1170 freshmen correlated significantly with the GPA of the twelfth grade National Examinations. Some evidence for the construct validity of the test is cited.
