Tracheal and left bronchial-oesophageal fistula repair and salvage 3-phase oesophagectomy supported by extra-corporeal membrane oxygenation: a case report
Paediatric severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection rarely results in a critical respiratory presentation. It is not yet known which children are at particular risk of adverse outcomes. We describe a paediatric case of critical SARS-CoV-2 infection requiring Extra Corporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO), who made a full recovery after receiving a dual antiviral therapy of remdesivir and nitazoxanide.
A massive left ventricular thrombosis represents a rare however, catastrophic complication of a central veno-arterial extra-corporeal membrane oxygenation. We report a case of such complication in a patient with severe left ventricular dysfunction after cardiac surgery. Its management and preventive measures are described and discussed.
