Abstract We define a Landmark Paper Index (LPI), calculate and analyze indices for all papers published in rheological journals (‘η-journals’) between 1990 and 2006. This paper offers some information about the criteria influencing the impact of publications on the (scientific) community. In opposite to the well known Impact Factor (journal sensitive) or the number of citations (article sensitive, publication year insensitive) the LPI helps to identify established and potential breakthrough contributions by considering the number of citations per year after publication, in a way which does not overestimate the few, highly cited, articles when performing averages. We discuss the effect of formal criteria on the LPI.

Writing abstracts, both in a professional and academic environment, is a crucialskill, reflecting the ability to think synthetically and express thoughts in a concise way. Due to the rising popularity of indexing scientific papers in different databases, abstracts can determine the readability of a paper and its future quotation rate. This paper presents the results of an analysis of the microstructure of 40 abstracts from prestigious impact factor medical and economics journals, offering guidelines for designing abstract writing exercises in foreign language courses for specific purposes

Scientific production is often explored at broader scales but understanding whether regional trends follow global ones is an important issue for science and public policies. Using freshwater fish papers’ production in the Goiás State, Central Brazil, we tested two hypotheses: i) regional production of papers follows global tendencies; ii) regional production is driven by the number of authors, institutions, financial support and dissertations/thesis produced. From published papers we extracted the: year of publication, authors’ institution, journal of publication, impact factor and financial support. To test both hypotheses we performed, respectively, a Pearson correlation between papers number and year, and a multiple linear regression considering papers number or impact factor as response variable and authors, institutions, financial support and dissertations/thesis as predictors variables. We observed a positive correlation between papers number and year, whereas financial support, institutions and dissertation/thesis were the main drivers for papers number and impact factor. Regional production of fish papers follows global patterns of production (financial support and institutions number as mains drivers). However, this production remains influenced by particularities such as: an inconstant production through time and the fact that many papers are still published in journals without an impact factor.

The purpose of this community service activity is to improve the professional competence of teachers of MTs DDI Padanglampe, Pangkep Regency, South Sulawesi Province, in the field of writing scientific papers, especially scientific articles for journal publications. Activities are carried out using training methods. Training was given to 25 teachers and implemented in three stages, namely preparation, implementation, and evaluation. The training materials provided cover the essence of writing scientific papers, characteristics, steps, systematic scientific papers, and the practice of writing scientific articles for journal publications. The training that has been given to Padanglampe MTs DDI teachers produces scientific articles that are ready to be submitted to journals. In addition, this training received a very positive response from the participants, because so far they still have difficulty in preparing scientific papers.

Aim: We investigated publication rates and reported results for gene- and cell-based therapy trials. Materials & methods: In a cohort of Institutional Review Board (IRB)-authorized trials during 2007–2017 in the Netherlands (n = 105), we examine publication rates and reported results in scientific papers and conference abstracts as well as associations with the occurrence of trial characteristics. Results: The publication rate for scientific papers was 27% and 17% for conference abstracts (median survival time: 1050 days). Academic hospitals published more in scientific papers whereas private sponsors published more in conference abstracts. Manufacturing protocols were underreported compared with clinical outcomes. Most publications reported positive results (78%). Conclusion: Publication rates are currently suboptimal indicating a need for enhanced knowledge sharing to stimulate gene- and cell-based therapy development.

<p>Annals of Geophysics is a bimonthly international journal, which publishes scientific papers in the field of geophysics sensu lato. It derives from Annali di Geofisica, which commenced publication in January 1948 as a quarterly periodical devoted to general geophysics, seismology, earth magnetism, and atmospheric studies. The journal was published regularly for a quarter of a century until 1982 when it merged with the French journal Annales de Géophysique to become Annales Geophysicae under the aegis of the European Geophysical Society. In 1981, this journal ceased publication of the section on solid earth geophysics, ending the legacy of Annali di Geofisica. In 1993, the Istituto Nazionale di Geofisica (ING), founder of the journal, decided to resume publication of its own journal under the same name, Annali di Geofisica. To ensure continuity, the first volume of the new series was assigned the volume number XXXVI (following the last issue published in 1982). In 2002, with volume XLV, the name of the journal was translated into English to become Annals of Geophysics and in consequence the journal impact factor counter was restarted. Starting in 2010, in order to improve its status and better serve the science community, Annals of Geophysics has instituted a number of editorial changes including full electronic open access, freely accessible online, the possibility to comment on and discuss papers online, and a board of editors representing Asia and the Americas as well as Europe.
