Situated in a disadvantaged condition in Lombok, Indonesia, the present study looks at the enactment of an emergency EFL course after earthquake and aftershock circumstances in a public university in the region. For such a purpose, forty-two non-English department students who attended the course in four face-to-face and nine asynchronous meetings were recruited using a convenience sampling technique. A set of questionnaire was disseminated to document participants’ responses on the course implementation. Observation and semi-structured interviews were also conducted to portray the pedagogical praxis. The findings suggest that the course delivery did not utterly reflect an effective teaching-learning process accordingly due to various factors. Barriers to using the WhatsApp tool also existed. Interestingly, the students positively reflected the course as the best way to learn in a disadvantaged condition. However, they were not confident with their attainment in English skills and components. Further considerations on how to design materials and assessment instruments and build a decent interaction are needed in learning under such disadvantaged condition.

This study seeks to recognize teachers’ lived experiences about teaching-learning process in multi-grade classes. The approach of the study is qualitative under the rubric of phenomenological studies. The statistical population consisted of the teachers of multi-grade classes in a non-prosperous province and a prosperous one. 14 teachers were selected using criterion sampling technique for an interview. The interviews were recorded and transcribed with the interviewees’ permission; and they were analyzed using Creswell data analysis. In order to evaluate the validity of the questions, the viewpoints of experts in the field of educational sciences as well as some teachers experienced in multi-grade classes were taken into account. The reliability was approved through examination by the participants and asking from counterparts. The results showed that teachers of multi-grade classes in both provinces had similar views on using teaching methods, determining learning activities and grouping methods. However, they did not have the same views on determining the type of learning materials and resources. The results show that in multi-grade classes various teaching methods such as peer teaching and integrated teaching, leading resources and materials such as the local community, nature, and discarded materials and objects, different grouping methods such as adjacent grouping, row grouping, and sex grouping, and finally various learning activities including self learning and peer learning are utilized. Multi-grade teachers in the two provinces have similar viewpoints regarding teaching methods, learning activities, and grouping methods, but are of different viewpoints on kinds of learning materials and resources.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, there was a need to adopt a pedagogical approach that complies with distancing standards, without harming the student's teaching-learning process. In this context, the search for tools that were effective for this period began, one of which was Remote Learning (RE). This paper seeks to report the experience of using RE as a teaching method for Ophthalmology. The experience was carried out with students from the Liga da Visão (LIVISA) at the Universidade de Fortaleza, through two stages: asynchronous virtual activities, aimed at the development of clinical skills, and synchronous theoretical classes, in partnership with academic residents, from an Ophthalmology service. Under this proposal, LIVISA's mentor had the challenge of continuing the activities in the RE modality, following the methodology already applied at the University, problem-based learning (PBL). In view of this, the proposition of clinical cases was fundamental to instigate the student to acquire knowledge and stimulate clinical reasoning, based on ophthalmological situations, allowing a more active role for the student. The transposition of Ophthalmology teaching to LIVISA students, from face-to-face to remote, was essential to keep the group cohesive.

Student-centered learning approach is a key factor which focuses on students’ learning experiences and development, well-being and retention so that higher educational learning is delivered in ways that are demonstrably in the students’ best interests. In the teacher-centered approach to teaching, most of the class time is spent with the teacher lecturing and the student watching, listening and taking notes. The present study aimed to explore students’ and instructors’ perception, practices and challenges in implementing SCL. The study employed descriptive survey design by combining quantitative and qualitative approach to collect, process, analyzes and presents the data. A total of 12 instructors and 66 students of the second and third year psychology students have participated in the study through availability and purposive sampling technique. The instruments were questionnaire, classroom observation and un-structured interviews were conducted. Accordingly, the findings indicated that the teaching practices in implementing student-centered learning approach were not as expected. The result also showed that instructors had positive attitude toward the SCL, regarding several aspects such as providing the benefits to both students and instructors, being effective for teaching, creating close relationship and establishing active classroom environment. In the end, instructors also agreed that student-centered instruction will improve the ability of the students to learn the courses. Due to different challenges, most of the students were less interested to learn by SCL, such as sense of fear, lack of interest and confidence. The study further found that the lack of classroom facilities and conditions, large class size, inadequate teachers training, tendency of focusing on teacher-centered approach and limited ability to implement were the challenges of implementing. Finally, it is recommended that responsible bodies rearrange the facilities and conditions necessary inputs for the effective implantation of SCL. To minimize the challenges, instructors should create different techniques to make students participants in teaching-learning process.

This study aimed to explore the model that can be used to improve local community participation in ecotourism development processes. The study was conducted at the communities adjoining the Oribi Gorge Nature Reserve in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. A mixed methods design was adopted by the study during collection and analysis of data. A total of 384 respondents were sampled through convenience sampling technique. Questionnaires were used to collect data through face-to-face surveys. The study found that local communities had not been actively participating in ecotourism development processes, especially those undertaken within the rural setting as a result of different socio-economic factors including lacking necessary skills. This study asserts that this gap could be mitigated through implementation of local community participation improvement model (LCPIM) based on its potential for influencing enactment and/or amendment of policies on ecotourism development

The increase number of Covid-19 outbreak has profoundly changed our education system. This condition has led the teachers to alter the face-to-face learning into online learning. Online learning emphasizes on the internet-based courses synchronously and asynchronously. Besides its technical problems, conducting online learning was said to be monotonous since the teachers preferred doing online tasking to providing effective learning experience. Further, this condition led to low students’ motivation in learning English. In other words, the students might be in boredom to participate and engage in the teaching- learning process owing to the monotonous learning. Most students were said to be late or even reluctant to complete the assignments. Therefore, the researcher conducted the Classroom Action Research dealing with the use of Google meet to improve the students’ motivation in learning English during the online learning. The research subject was the 7th grade students of SMP Negeri Satu Atap Jarit. The research was conducted in two cycles. In cycle I, it showed that there was an increase of students’ motivation in learning English. The increase of students’ motivation was 61, 8%. Meanwhile, in cycle II, the researcher found that the Google meet significantly improved the students’ motivation in learning English. The increase of students’ motivation was 79, 4%.
