Introduction: The aim of the dissertation was to compare the psychophysical state of people over 50 years of age from different societies.Material and methods: The first group consisted of 30 care home residents, the second group consisted of 30 participants of Active Senior Fair. In the research, two scales were applied: Mini‍‑Mental State Examination, measuring the mental state, and Instrumental Activity of Daily Living, measuring agility in the field of complex everyday tasks.Conclusiona: The study indicates the difference in the psychophysical state of both researched groups. The results may be connected with both age difference between groups and different living environment.

Lateral epicondylitis (tennis elbow) is a major cause of musculoskeletal pain involving common extensor origin of the forearm. This study was done to determine the effects of platelet-rich plasma on 15 patients with lateral epicondylitis. Selected patients were given intralesional platelet-rich plasma injection, activity of daily living instructions and paracetamol. Patients were assessed every 14 days interval by visual analogue scale, and the patient rated tennis elbow evaluation. Treatment response according to visual analogue scale and patient rated tennis elbow evaluation tool, the difference of improvement was found in respect to time, from pretreatment W1 (just before 1st Intervention) score to W11 score in every alternate week (p<0.005). This indicates that intralesional platelet-rich plasma is effective in the patients with lateral epicondylitis of elbow.

A comprehensive dementia service delivery is not well established in Indonesia, even though geriatric teams have been in place since 1997. Psycho-geriatric services are mainly provided by departments of psychiatry, as well as the geriatric division of internal medicine or neurology departments. Screening is routinely performed using the Mini-Mental State Examination and the Abbreviated Mental Test. In the near future, the division of geriatric psychiatry in psychiatry departments will have comprehensive services for dementia, from initial assessment to cognitive and functional rehabilitation. This will comprise screening, home visits, day care, home care, educational seminars, and specific programmes tailored to the needs of the person with dementia. Pre-dementia detection and any activities promoting active ageing should be prioritized in Indonesia.

Purpose: This study evaluated the potential effectiveness of a tablet-based, volunteer-led intervention (Lok Chi In-home Training) for cognitively impaired older people in improving cognitive and emotional health. Method: A one-group pretest and posttest design was adopted, involving 57 community-dwelling older people with cognitive impairments (Montreal Cognitive Score between 13 and 22, without neuropsychiatric behavioral problem). Trained volunteers performed eight in-home training sessions using a tablet to facilitate. Outcome measures include cognitive function, depression, activity of daily living, and instrumental activity of daily living. Results: A paired sample t test indicated that after receiving Lok Chi In-home Training, participants showed significantly large improvements on cognitive ability, moderate improvements on depression, and small improvements on instrumental activity of daily living. Conclusions: This study demonstrated the feasibility and potential benefits of Lok Chi intervention for improving cognition and emotion.

Aims: To explore the impact of hospitalization on neuropsychiatric symptoms (NPS) and the level of functioning in patients with dementia. Our aim was also to study the influence of psychotropic medications. Methods: Behavioral disturbances, cognition and functional status of 89 patients were assessed using the Neuropsychiatric Inventory (NPI), Mini-Mental State Examination, Barthel Index, and Alzheimer's Disease Cooperative Study-Activities of Daily Living (ADCSADL). Results: The total NPI score decreased from 34.6 to 19.5 (p < 0.001), and ADL decreased from 32.2 to 21.7 (p < 0.001) during the hospital stay (mean of 44 days). For a change in ADL, only the effect of anxiolytics was significant (p = 0.045). For a change in NPI with antipsychotic and anxiolytic doses and Mini-Mental State Examination as covariates, no significant relationship was found. Conclusion: NPS improved significantly during hospitalization, but neither antipsychotic nor anxiolytic medication use explained this improvement. In patients using anxiolytics, the functional decline was substantial. These results do not support anxiolytic use in demented patients with NPS.
