Abstract Isomorphism identification is fundamental to synthesis and innovative design of kinematic chains (KCs). The identification can be performed accurately by using the similarity of KCs. However, there are very few researches on isomorphism identification based on the properties of similarity vertices. In this paper, an improved high-order adjacent vertex assignment (IHAVS) sequence method is proposed to seek out the similarity vertices and identify the isomorphism of the planar KCs. First, the specific definition of IHAVS is described. Through the calculation of the IHAVS, the adjacent point value sequence reflecting the uniqueness of the structural features is established. Based on the value sequence, all possible similarity vertices, corresponding relations and isomorphism discrimination can be realized. By checking the topological diagrams of KCs of different number of links, the correctness of the proposed method are verified. Finally, the method is used to find the similarity vertices of all the 9-link 2-DOF(degree of freedom) planar KCs.

In this paper, an ameliorated multi-order adjacent vertex assignment sequence (AMAVS) method is proposed to seek out similar vertices and identify the isomorphism of the planar KCs. First, the specific definition of AMAVS is described. Through the calculation of the AMAVS, the adjacent vertex value sequence reflecting the uniqueness of the topology features is established. Based on the value sequence, all possible similar vertices, corresponding relations, and isomorphism discrimination can be realized. By checking the topological graph of KCs with a different number of links, the effectiveness and efficiency of the proposed method are verified. Finally, the method is employed to implement the similar vertices and isomorphism detection of all the 9-link 2-DOF(degree of freedom) planar KCs.

Isomorphism identification is an essential step in mechanism configuration synthesis. Although various detection methods have been proposed, some of them can only effectively identify kinematic chains (KCs) within 10 links or complex programs that are needed to identify multilink KCs. In this study, a new isomorphism identification method is proposed based on the distance concept of graphs and the graph theory definition of isomorphism. In addition to two complex 21- and 28-link planar simple-joint KCs (PSKCs), the proposed algorithm is tested on the complete atlas of 8-link 1-DOF, 9-link 2-DOF, 10-link 1-DOF, 12-link 1-DOF, and 13-link 2-DOF PSKCs. The algorithm is also tested on 6-link 1-DOF and 7-link 1-DOF planetary gear trains (PGTs) to detect isomorphism. All results are in agreement with those of the existing literature. The method is fully automated via a computer program and has been verified to be reliable and efficient.

Abstract In view of the deficiency in the Isomorphism identification of Mechanism Kinematic Chains (IMKC), we introduce the definition of structure code and covert the problem of IMKC to that of the computation of adjacent matrix’s structural codes for mechanisms. Through some analysis, the conclusion is reached that it is similar to the Traveling Salesman Problem (TSP), a classical combinatorial optimization problem. The converted problem is solved by using an ant algorithm model that can cope with combinatorial explosion and achieve satisfactory results, which is developed recently. In the paper, the principle of ant algorithms is introduced and the implementation of an ant algorithm model for IMKC is given based on the problem conversion. By a practical example of IMKC, the influence of some parameters in the model on the computation results is analyzed in detail and the final result indicates the validity of ant algorithm for IMKC. Thus a new way for the researches of IMKC is presented.

Abstract Isomorphism identification plays an important role in structural design and innovative design. Based on the adjacency matrix and loop theory, a new method is proposed in this paper to identify the isomorphic kinematic chains. It enriches the application of loop-based theory for isomorphism identification. In the kinematic chain, links and joints are connected alternatively and every link corresponds to a fixed link degree. Due to the inherent characteristics, the labeled sequence of links can be random, which does not affect the result of isomorphism identification. By the programming software MATLAB, some examples with 6-, 8-, 10-, 11-, 12-link kinematic chains, and 15-vertex topological graphs are presented. Results show that the proposed method applies to topology graphs and kinematic chains with one or multiple joints. Compared with other methods, the proposed method is confirmed correctly. And there is no counterexample. It lays a solid foundation for structural synthesis in the future.

Abstract City diplomacy is a fairly new topic in the study of diplomacy, and, many would argue, a fairly recent empirical phenomenon. A counterpoint to this could be to reference how the alleged origin of diplomacy in Greek antiquity was city-centered, as were the earliest forms of Renaissance diplomacy in Italy. In this essay we want to probe the connections between cities and diplomacy through problematizing what has counted as diplomacy. Our starting point is that cities have always mattered to what we could analytically refer to as diplomatic practice. Being conscious of the conceptual ambiguities, we are thus not starting from a specific definition of “city diplomacy,” but from a conviction that cities have mattered and continue to matter to the practice of diplomacy.

Educating for Sustainability involves promoting sustainable competences in students. Not in vain, wider societal changes that ensure a balance between economic growth, respect for the environment and social justice must start with individual actions, implying knowledge, capacity and willingness to act. However, and although there is wide consensus that education should promote the development of competences for life, putting this theoretical tenet into may entail more problems. Competence is most often expressed in general terms without a specific definition of the intervening elements (knowledge, skills, values, attitudes), which may collide with the necessity of teachers – as learning planners - concrete entities on which to base their process of design. So that, in this work we propose a series of indicators that serve to characterize the four dimensions of scientific competence – contents of science, contents about science, value of science and utility of science-. Although they are primarily intended to be used to filter multimedia resources in an educational platform, this proposal of indicators can be extrapolated to the management and selection of a variety of resources and activities, and for sharing the objectives and evidences for the acquisition of competencies.

In the current conditions of decentralization and voluntary community integration, there is a need for a comprehensive, up-to-date, and high-quality study of their resource potential, distribution, and prospects for future community development. The most pressing issue for communities is the issue of the specific definition of their boundaries, planning, use, and protection of land, especially with regard to the authority to dispose of land resources outside the settlement. The article analyzes the constitutional basis of the administrative-territorial system and local self-government in Ukraine, the basic legislation, and the peculiarities of its application in the conditions of change. It is established that in the absence of the adoption of relevant laws, changes to existing ones, the incompleteness of implementation of measures on decentralization of power, untimely resolution of problems arising in the process of implementation of land management reform within the jurisdiction of local councils, the process of reforming local self-government is hampered.
