Abstract Background: The rapid expansion of dengue, Zika and chikungunya with large scale outbreaks are an increasing public health concern in many countries. Additionally, the recent coronavirus pandemic urged the need to get connected for fast information transfer and exchange. As response, health programmes have -among other interventions- incorporated digital tools such as mobile phones for supporting the control and prevention of infectious diseases. However, little is known about the benefits of mobile phone technology in terms of input, process and outcome dimensions. The purpose of this scoping review is to analyse the evidence of the use of mobile phones as an intervention tool regarding the performance, acceptance, usability, feasibility, cost and effectiveness in dengue, Zika and chikungunya control programmes. Methods: We conducted a scoping review of studies and reports by systematically searching: i) electronic databases (PubMed, PLOS ONE, PLOS Neglected Tropical Disease, LILACS, WHOLIS, ScienceDirect and Google scholar), ii) grey literature, using Google web and iii) documents in the list of references of the selected papers. Selected studies were categorized using a pre-determined data extraction form. Finally, a narrative summary of the evidence related to general characteristics of available mobile health tools and outcomes was produced. Results: The systematic literature search identified 1289 records, 32 of which met the inclusion criteria. From the reference lists of included articles 4 records were identified coming to a total of 36 studies. The content analysis identified five mobile phone categories: mobile applications (n = 18), short message services (n=7), camera phone (n = 6), mobile phone tracking data (n = 4), and simple mobile communication (n = 1). These devices were used for surveillance, prevention and management. In general, mobile phone-based studies reported good performance, acceptance by users, usability in downloads as well as feasibility of mobile phone under real life conditions and effectiveness in terms of contributing to a reduction of vectors and disease. It can be concluded that there are great opportunities for using mobile phones in the fight against arboviral diseases as well as other epidemic diseases . Further studies particularly on acceptance, cost and effectiveness at scale are recommended.

The high prevalence of preventable infectious and chronic diseases in Australian Indigenous populations is a major public health concern. Existing research has rarely examined the role of built and socio-political environmental factors relating to remote Indigenous health and wellbeing. This research identified built and socio-political environmental indicators from publicly available grey literature documents locally-relevant to remote Indigenous communities in the Northern Territory (NT), Australia. Existing planning documents with evidence of community input were used to reduce the response burden on Indigenous communities. A scoping review of community-focused planning documents resulted in the identification of 1120 built and 2215 socio-political environmental indicators. Indicators were systematically classified using an Indigenous indicator classification system (IICS). Applying the IICS yielded indicators prominently featuring the “community infrastructure” domain within the built environment, and the “community capacity” domain within the socio-political environment. This research demonstrates the utility of utilizing existing planning documents and a culturally appropriate systematic classification system to consolidate environmental determinants that influence health and disease occurrence. The findings also support understanding of which features of community-level built and socio-political environments amenable to public health and social policy actions might be targeted to help reduce the prevalence of infectious and chronic diseases in Indigenous communities.

Ethical issues that arise during the care of a pregnant woman with cancer are challenging to physicians, policymakers, lawyers, and the bioethics community. The main purpose of this scoping review is to summarize existing literature regarding the bioethical dilemmas when a conflict arises in the maternal-fetus dyad, like the one related to cancer and pregnancy outcomes. Moreover, we illustrate the decision-making process of real-life case reports. Published data were searched through the PubMed and Google Scholar databases, as well as in grey literature, using appropriate controlled keywords in English and Portuguese. After identification, screening, eligibility and data extraction from the articles, a total of 50 was selected. There are several established ethical frameworks for conflict resolution and decision-making. Pragmatic theoretical approaches include case-based analysis, the ethics of care, feminist theory, and traditional ethical principlism that scrutinizes the framework of autonomy, justice, beneficence, and non-maleficence. In addition, society and practitioner values could mediate this complex ethical interplay. The physician must balance autonomy and beneficence-based obligations to the pregnant woman with cancer, along with beneficence-based obligations to the fetus. Ethical challenges have received less attention in the literature, particularly before the third trimester of pregnancy. Best, unbiased and balanced information must be granted both to the patient and to the family, regarding the benefits and harms for the woman herself as well as for the fetal outcome. Based on a previously validated method for analyzing and working up clinical ethical problems, we suggest an adaptation of an algorithm for biomedical decision-making in cancer during pregnancy, including recommendations that can facilitate counseling and help reduce the suffering of the patient and her family.

In recent years, while extensive researches on various networks properties have been proposed and accomplished, little has been proposed and done on network robustness and node vulnerability assessment under cascades in directed large-scale online community networks. In essential, an online directed social network is a group-centered and information spread-dominated online platform which is very different from the traditional undirected social network. Some further research studies have indicated that the online social network has high robustness to random removals of nodes but fails to the intentional attacks, particularly to those attacks based on node betweenness or node directed coefficient. To explore on the robustness of directed social network, in this article, we have proposed two novel node centralities of ITG (information transfer gain-based probability clustering coefficient) and I M p v (directed path-based node importance centrality). These two new centrality models are designed to capture this cascading effect in directed online social networks. Furthermore, we also propose a new and highly efficient computing method based on iterations for I M p v . Then, with the abundant experiments on the synthetic signed network and real-life networks derived from directed online social media and directed human mobile phone calling network, it has been proved that our ITG and I M p v based on directed social network robustness and node vulnerability assessment method is more accurate, efficient, and faster than several traditional centrality methods such as degree and betweenness. And we also have proposed the solid reasoning and proof process of iteration times k in computation of I M p v . To the best knowledge of us, our research has drawn some new light on the leading edge of robustness on the directed social network.

Using collected 190 samples, this paper studied Chinese mobile phone market with hedonic price analysis. Through calculating hedonic price of heterogeneous goods, this paper summed up the positive and negative factors that influence the price of mobile phones. This paper found that network type and GPS are negative effects on mobile phones’ prices, which is little different from the real life situation; And the price will become more and more cheaper with time; In addition, the price of mobile phones with additional features is correspondingly higher.

Background: Dizziness is one of the most common symptoms following concussion and requires a thorough vestibular assessment. However, due to limited tools and evidence on remote vestibular assessment and intervention, people unable to attend in-person consults cannot receive effective care. Objective: This study aims to describe the design and development process of MOVE-IT. MOVE-IT is a mobile phone application with an associated head mount device and clinician dashboard which aims to enhance vestibular assessments and intervention via telehealth by enabling clinicians to clearly observe client’s eye movements. Methods: This study used a Living Labs methodology including the use of a scoping review, user engagement, multi stakeholder engagement, real-life settings, and co-creation. MOVE-IT was developed in three phases: Exploration, Experimentation and Evaluation. This paper describes the Exploration and Experimentation process. Exploration included a scoping review, focus group and consultation interviews. Experimentation included the co-creation of a minimum viable product in a real-life setting with regular feedback from multi-stakeholders. Outcome: MOVE-IT includes three components: a mobile phone application, head mount device and clinician dashboard. MOVE-IT aims to enhance the use of telehealth for vestibular assessments by: (1) using the head mount device to enable video recording of client’s eyes during assessment, (2) allowing clinicians to view client’s eye movements via the clinician dashboard whilst (3) a support person assists in the physical aspect of the vestibular assessment by a step-by-step guided video in the mobile application. Conclusion: The Living Lab method was a useful strategy for developing MOVE-IT. MOVE-IT meets all predefined functionality requirements and potentially provides a solution for remote vestibular assessment and intervention in the concussion population. The Evaluation phase will be conducted next to test usability, reliability and validity of MOVE-IT.
