Abstract Background: Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) coexisting mood disorders along with a combination of aesthetic manifestations may have a detrimental effect on women's sexual function. Hence, different phenotypes of PCOS have different clinical and biochemical signs and symptoms. The aim of this study was to compare women's sexual function (SF) in different phenotypes of PCOS.Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted on 364 women who met the Rotterdam diagnostic criteria to compare different PCOS phenotypes (A=95, B=78, C=95, and D=95). All patients were invited to fill out the female sexual function index (FSFI).Results: Significant differences were observed between the different phenotypes in terms of total score, sexual desire, arousal, lubrication, and satisfaction (P<0.001); however, no significant differences were found between them in the terms of pain (P>0.05) and orgasm (P>0.05). In addition, phenotype B had the lowest mean score of total FSFI (P<0.05).Conclusion: The results indicated that women's SF is significantly different in different PCOS phenotypes. It is concluded that in order to solve the SF problems of women with PCOS, different treatment and care measures should be considered according to the relevant phenotype.

Abstract Background: Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) is a common hormonal disorder that affects approximately 5-20% of women of childbearing age. Physical and psychological changes caused by PCOS might impair women’s sexual function. Infertility is one of the most important complications that may be seen in women with PCOS. This study aimed to compare sexual function in fertile and infertile women with PCOS diagnosis.Method: This cross-sectional study was conducted on 364 fertile and 239 infertile women that diagnosed with PCOS according to the Rotterdam criteria from May 2018 to February 2019. All participants were asked to fill out included demographic survey and Female Sexual Function Index (FSFI) questionnaires.Result: The mean total FSFI score in fertile and infertile women was 23.70±6.26 and 24.65±4.04, respectively. With regard to FSFI, the differences between the two groups were not statistically significant in terms of total FSFI score, desire, lubrication, satisfaction, and arousal score (P>0.05). However, the pain score, was significantly higher in the fertile group. (3.51±1.27, 3.10±1.11, P<0.001). Conclusion: Impaired sexual function in infertile women diagnosed with PCOS can be more associated with PCOS-related complications and other concurrent factors that affects sexual function rather than infertility. It seems that the effects of infertility on sexual function can be different in infertile women according to each person's condition. Hence, screening for sexual dysfunction in women with PCOS and infertility should be deemed as a part of clinical assessment, leading to early diagnosing and improving their quality of life.

Abstract Introduction: Infertility is one of the issues affecting sexual function (SF). Infertility is also one of the complications of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and endometriosis. This research seeks to assess and compare SF and the prevalence of sexual dysfunction with PCOS and endometriosis in infertile women. Methods: A cross-sectional study was carried out on 630 samples (210 infertile women with endometriosis, 210 infertile women with PCOS, and 210 healthy women of childbearing age as the control group). SF was assessed by the Female Sexual Function Index (FSFI). Descriptive statistics and inferential statistics (One Way ANOVA and logistic regression) were used to analyze the data. Results: The results showed that the mean score of total FSFI in the two groups of PCOS and endometriosis was lower than the control group (P<0.001). In addition, women with higher education (university education) had a significantly higher score of total FSFI. Conclusion: Sexual dysfunction rates are high in infertile women with endometriosis and PCOS, so infertility service providers in infertility centers need to pay attention to this issue.
