Abstract As we all know, embedded systems are becoming more and more widely used. All devices with digital interfaces, such as watches, microwave ovens, video recorders, automobiles, etc., use embedded systems, but most embedded systems are implemented by a single embedded application program to achieve the entire control logic.At present, embedded applications on the WinCE platform are extending towards microservices and miniaturization. More embedded device application data requires small, embedded database systems to organize, store, and manage. The embedded database SQLite has many advantages such as zero-configuration, lightweight, multiple interfaces, easy portability, readable source code, and open source. It is currently widely used in the WinCE embedded operating system. This article discusses the technical characteristics of the SQLite database in detail, SQLite data manipulation, SQLite transplantation under the WinCE platform, and finally implements SQLite data management on WinCE mobile terminal based on MFC programming.

The improved particle filter based simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM) has been developed for many robotic applications. The main purpose of this article is to demonstrate that recent heterogeneous architectures can be used to implement the FastSLAM2.0 and can greatly help to design embedded systems based robot applications and autonomous navigation. The algorithm is studied, optimized and evaluated with a real dataset using different sensors data and a hardware in the loop (HIL) method. Authors have implemented the algorithm on a system based embedded applications. Results demonstrate that an optimized FastSLAM2.0 algorithm provides a consistent localization according to a reference. Such systems are suitable for real time SLAM applications.

Through embedding Web server to the ARM embedded system functions and adding embedded Gateway Interface CGI program, the interactive delivery with the long-distance customers Web browser order and response information come true.

One of the most critical steps of embedded systems design is Hardware-Software partitioning. It is characterized by distributing the components of an application between hardware and software such that the user defined system constraints are satisfied. Heterogeneous computing platforms consisting of CPUs and GPUs have tremendous potential for enhancing the performance of embedded applications. The challenge of application partitioning for CPU-GPU mapping is much greater on such platforms due to their unique and diverse characteristics. In this thesis, an optimization algorithm is devised and presented for partitioning and mapping computational tasks on CPU-GPU platforms while keeping a check on the power consumption. Our methodology also uses parallelism in applications and their tasks by utilizing the architectural capabilities of the GPU. The optimization algorithm was tested with a MJPEG decoder, several benchmarks and synthetic graphs.

The diversity of applications developed with different programming languages, application/data architectures, database systems and representation of data/information leads to heterogeneity issues. One of the problem challenges in the problem of heterogeneity is about heterogeneity data in term of semantic aspect. The semantic aspect is about data that has the same name with different meaning or data that has a different name with the same meaning. The semantic data mapping process is the best solution in the current days to solve semantic data problem. There are many semantic data mapping technologies that have been used in recent years. This research aims to compare and analyze existing semantic data mapping technology using five criteria’s. After comparative and analytical process, this research provides recommendations of appropriate semantic data mapping technology based on several criteria’s. Furthermore, at the end of this research we apply the recommended semantic data mapping technology to be implemented with the real data in the specific application. The result of this research is the semantic data mapping file that contains all data structures in the application data source. This semantic data mapping file can be used to map, share and integrate with other semantic data mapping from other applications and can also be used to integrate with the ontology language.

Reconfiguration-Based Fault-Tolerance is one approach for developing dependable safety-critical embedded applications. This approach, compared to traditional hardware and software redundancy, is a promising technique that may achieve the required dependability with a significant reduction in cost in terms of size, weight, price, and power consumption. Reconfiguration necessitates using proper checkpointing protocols to support state reservation and task migration. One of the most common approaches is to use Communication Induced Checkpointing (CIC) protocols, which are well developed and understood for large parallel and information systems, but not much has been done for resource limited embedded systems. This paper implements four common CIC protocols in a resource constrained distributed embedded system with a Controller Area Network (CAN) backbone. An example feedback control system implementation is used for a case study. The four implemented protocols are described and performances are contrasted. The paper compares the protocols in terms of network bandwidth consumptions, CPU usages, checkpointing times, and checkpoint sizes in additional to the traditional measures of forced to local checkpoint rations and total number of checkpoints.

Parallel servers are becoming an important sector in the embedded systems marketplace. If software engineers are to implement the multi-algorithm applications that these servers support, then educators should provide clear design routes which inculcate system-level thinking. Pipelined Processor Farms (PPF) is one such top-down design strategy. The contemporary hardware diversity within both processor- and instruction-level parallellism requires incorporation of a coprocessor model at the node or sub-system layer. Two suitable software-based approaches are reviewed: one which maintains the traditional aspects of hardware modeling, SystemC, and the other, Handel-C, which introduces silicon compilation to the CAD laboratory.
