Abstract The synthesis of p-n heterojunction has received much attention in the eradication of organic pollutants from water. In this study, p-n CoO-ZnO heterojunction is reported as an efficient visible-light-driven photocatalyst for degradation of methylene blue. The formation of CoO-ZnO was determined by XRD, XPS, UV-vis DRS, SEM, and EDS analyses. The p-n CoO-ZnO prepared by precipitation method showed an enhanced photocatalytic activity under the irradiation of visible light compared to ZnO. A 100 mg/L methylene blue is degraded almost completely within 2 hours under visible irradiation. The enhanced photocatalytic efficiency is attributed to the synergistic effect of p-n heterojunction that dramatically reduces the recombination of holes and electrons initiated by irradiation. The role played by hydroxyl radicals in photodegradation of methylene blue was determined by photoluminescence emission and fluorescence spectroscopy.

In this work, we prepared ZnxCd1-xS/g-C3N4 nanocomposites with excellent catalytic effect by the simple chemical precipitation method. The ZnxCd1-xS/g-C3N4 composite with excellent effect of degrading methylene blue (MB) was prepared by adjusting the ratio of Zn to Cd. The Zn0.25Cd0.75S/g-C3N4 nanocomposites have the highest degradation efficiency, which can reach 92.25%. The specific surface area and visible light absorption range are increased by the synergistic effect of the combination of ZnxCd1-xS and g-C3N4. The ZnxCd1-xS/g-C3N4 nanocomposites prepared by this study with excellent photocatalytic properties provide a method for the preparation of new composite materials in the future.

Mitigating organic pollutants by employing semiconducting materials is considered to be green and sustainable route to tackle the environmental problems. Herein, citrate-gel autocombustion method was adopted to synthesize Ce and Dy doped CoFe2O4 and characterized by various analytical techniques. The efficacy of prepared CoCexDyxFe2-2xO4 (x=0-0.04) samples were tested for degradation of Methylene blue (MB) under visible light irradiation. The photocatalytic efficiency of CoCe0.02Dy0.02Fe1.96O4 for degradation of MB was found to be larger than pure CoFe2O4, Degussa P25 and other modified CoFe2O4. The enhanced photocatalytic activity was attributed to improved charge separation and visible light utilization by Ce and Dy into CoFe2O4 system. The super-spin glass behaviour of CoCexDyxFe2-2xO4 confirmed from flat nature of magnetization of FC curve below TB.

We have synthesized layered Ni(OH)2via a facile liquid-phase precipitation method. NiO with a micro/nano-structure was obtained via calcining Ni(OH)2precursor at 350°C. The as-prepared NiO was utilized as a support to load Ag nanocrystals. SEM and TEM observations showed that Ag nanoparticles were homogeneously distributed onto NiO support and the Ag nanoparticles have sizes of 4-5 nm. The photocatalytic activity of NiO-loaded Ag was investigated by the photodegradation of methylene blue (MB) under the irradiation of visible light. The results suggest that the loading of Ag nanoparticles can enhance the photo-degradation performance of pristine NiO.
