This article extends the coverage of the trust–acceptability model to a new situation of nuclear phase-out by investigating the effect of trust on the public acceptance of nuclear power, with South Korea as the research setting. Through the structural equation modeling of a nationwide survey dataset from South Korea, we examined the effects of the public’s trust in the various actors related to nuclear power on their perceptions of the benefits and risks of nuclear power and their acceptance of nuclear power. Contrary to previous studies’ findings, in South Korea, under a nuclear phase-out policy by the government, trust in government revealed a negative impact on the public acceptance of nuclear power. Trust in environmental non-governmental groups also showed a negative effect on nuclear power acceptance. In contrast, trust in nuclear energy authority and trust in nuclear academia both had positive effects. In all cases, the effect of a trust variable on nuclear power acceptance was at least partially accounted for by the trust’s indirect effects through benefit perception and risk perception. These findings strengthen the external validity of the trust–acceptability model and provide implications for both researchers and practitioners.

Purpose This paper aims to investigate whether Syariah banks are more financially stable than non-Syariah banks and check the differential impact of explanatory variables in financial health and efficiency in the context of Indonesia. Design/methodology/approach By using unbalanced panel data from Bankfocus over the period 2011–2018, regression analysis is performed with two response variables representing financial health, ZSCORE for return on average assets, liquid asset to deposit and short-term funding ratio. A number of control variables are used as tools to confirm the hypotheses. To check the robustness of the findings, a model with different specifications has been used. Findings The results indicate that while Syariah banks present higher insolvency risk (less health) for long-term activity, the opposite is true for short-term activity. Other findings show that Syariah and non-Syariah banks contribute differently to the national system of financial stability owing to varying influential factors on the bank’s health. Originality/value This paper presents a comparative analysis between the financial stability of Syariah banks and that of non-Syariah banks in Indonesia by building an empirical framework that allows the author to examine the differential effects of each underlying feature on financial stability in Syariah and non-Syariah banks.

The decommissioning of nuclear facilities indicates that the site is finally released according to a limited or unlimited site reuse purpose. In this process, the assessment of exposure dose to decommissioning workers and nearby residents is essential. Based on MARSSIM, a widely used decommissioning guideline in the United States, derivation of the exposure dose and derived concentration guideline level (DCGL) is mandatory using the probabilistic analysis of the RESRAD code. Here, DCGL is the radionuclide-specific concentration that satisfies the site release criteria. By applying the priority 1 parameter, which has the greatest effect on the dose, the dose is derived through deterministic and probabilistic analyses. The results were compared and analyzed. The purpose of this study was to provide a basic database that can be applied to the development of parameter lists and distributions suitable for the characteristics of nuclear facilities in South Korea. In addition, the process of deriving the dose by applying the deterministic and probabilistic analyses of RESRAD was assessed.
