Background:Dentin bonding is an ever-evolving field in adhesive dentistry. With the introduction of newer systems into the market, there is a crucial need to test their efficiency in terms of bond strength. Dual-cured adhesives in theory may provide for a better degree of conversion as compared to conventional light-cured adhesives .Thus, the aim of this study was to compare the shear bond strength of three different self-etch adhesives namely ClearfilSE bond (Kuraray), Tetric N Bond Universal (IvoclarVivadent) and Futura Bond DC (Voco) to dentin. Materials & Methods: Ninety extracted non-carious, intact human mandibular molar teeth were selected for this study. Each tooth was decoronated using a double-sided diamond disc with water coolant to a depth of 2mm from the cusp tip .The cut dentin surface was then abraded against 600-grit wet silicon carbide papers for 60 seconds to produce a uniform smear layer. The root portion of each tooth was mounted on a plastic ring using cold cure acrylic resin. Specimens were then divided into three adhesive groups of 30 teeth each, Group A: ClearfilSE Bond (Kuraray), Group B: Tetric N Bond Universal (IvoclarVivadent), Group C :Futura Bond DC (Voco). All bonding agents were used according to the manufacturers’ instructions, in combination with the resin composite Tetric N Ceram (IvoclarVivadent). The samples were thermocycled, followed by shear bond strength testing using a Universal testing machine (Hounsfield). Data were subjected to statistical analysis using one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) (P<0.05) and Post hoc Tukey’s test for inter- and intra- group analysis respectively. Results: Clearfil SE Bond yielded the highest shear bond strength values (30.9 ±4.66 MPa) which were statistically significant, followed byTetric N Bond Universal group (29.8 ±4.34) and the lowest shear bond strength values were recorded for Futura Bond DC (18.2 ±3.13). Conclusion: Clearfil SE bond and Tetric N bond Universal can be considered as better options than Futura Bond DC.

Abstract Background: The aim of the current study was to evaluate and compare the influence of Dycal, Lime-lite, Theracal LC, Biodentine, Resin-modified glass ionomer cement (RMGIC), and Activa Bioactive as the pulp capping material on the shear bond strength of resin composite to dentin.Methods: A total of 70 extracted caries-free molars were randomly assigned to seven groups. Six test groups were covered with various protective liners: Dycal (GD), Theracal LC (GT), lime-lite (GL), Activa Bioactive (GA), Biodentine (GB), RMGIC (GR). The control group (GC)received no liner pretreatment. Each sample was bonded to resin composite using the total-etch tetric N bond adhesive. The samples were then tested for shear bond strength using the universal testing machine at a cross-head speed of 1 mm/min until bond failure occurred. The data were analyzed using the one-way ANOVA test followed by the Tamhane post-hoc test for pairwise comparisons of the groupsResults: Independent of the type of the applied liner, all groups exhibited inferior SBS to dentine compared to the control group. GT and GR showed significantly higher shear bond strength than GB and GD, which showed the lowest shear bond strength. GL and GA also had significantly lower SBS results than GT. The mode of fracture was predominantly cohesive in GD, GB, and GT and adhesive in GA.Conclusion: This present study concludes that the bond strength of resin-composite to dentine can be affected differently using various types of liners.

ABSTRACT Aim To evaluate the influence of salivary contamination during dentin bonding procedures on shear bond strength and to investigate the effect of contaminant-removing treatments on the recovery of bond strength for two dentin-bonding agents. Materials and methods Seventy-seven human maxillary and mandibular molars were randomly divided into two groups for total-etch adhesive (Single bond-3M ESPE, USA) and self-etch primer (UniFil Bond-GC, Tokyo, Japan) and subjected to contamination with saliva. The data for each group were subjected to one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) followed by the Student Newman-Keuls test to make comparisons among the groups (p < 0.05). Results Salivary contamination had less adverse effect on the shear bond strength of single bond total-etch adhesive when it was blot dried or washed. UniFil bond was tolerant of salivary contamination, except when contamination occurred after application of the primer. Conclusion In single bond adhesive, when the etched surface is contaminated by saliva, blotting the surface and applying the primer can recover the bond strength. Complete drying of the salivary contaminated surface should be avoided. In the UniFil bond groups, the repriming treatment (UF-V and UF-VI) resulted in the recovery of shear bond strength in the specimens contaminated after priming. Clinical significance The results of this study showed that total- etch adhesive (single bond) was not affected by salivary contamination on the etched surface when the bonding surface was kept moist. Self-etch adhesive (UniFil bond) also tolerated salivary contamination except when the contamination occurred after application of the primer. Objective: To evaluate the shear bond strength of stainless steel brackets bonded with fluoride-releasing composite resins, comparing effect of adhesion booster and conventional primer.Materials & Method: Sixty extracted premolars were subjected to bracket bonding with fluoride-releasing composite resin; which were bonded by randomly divided into two groups of bonding agents: Group 1- conventional primer as control group, Group 2- adhesion booster. After bonding, the samples were thermocycled (500 cycles) at 5ºC and 55ºC temperatures. After 48 hours they were subjected to shear bond strength testing in occluso-gingival direction, using an MTS 810 Universal Testing Machine with load speed of 0.5 mm/min.Result: Mean shear bond strength was significantly more in samples bonded with adhesion booster (14.792±3.805 Mpa) as compared to conventional primers (11.327±4.047 Mpa). There was statistically significant difference in shear bond strength between the groups (p=0.001).Conclusion: The use of the adhesion booster significantly increased the bond strength of bracket bonded with fluoride-releasing composite.

Aim: The aim of the study was to evaluate the shear bond strength of composite to dentin with 2 different dentin bonding agents after dry dentin is rewetted with a desensitizer. Materials and Methods: Sixty human mandibular molars were taken and the occlusal surface was ground to expose flat dentinal surface.  The samples were divided into two major groups Group I and Group II based on the bonding agent used. In Group I Gluma Bond5 was used and in Group II Adper Single Bond 2 was used.  Each major group is subdivided into three subgroups a, b and c with ten samples each.  Sub Group ‘a’ is moist dentin group. Sub Group ‘b’ is dry dentin group, Sub Group ‘c’ is rewetted dentin group. The desensitizer used is GLUMA Desensitizer. All these samples were thermocycled and the shear bond test was performed using Instron Universal Testing Machine. Results: Dry dentin rewetted with GLUMA Desensitizer followed by GLUMA Bond5 showed highest shear bond strength than that of other subgroups. The data was analysed using ANOVA and Tukeys honestly significant test. Conclusion: Desensitizer used as a rewetting agent increases the shear bond strength of composite on dry dentin. In this experimental study, the effects of Er,Cr:YSGG laser on the shear bond strength (SBS) of brackets bonded to two ceramic surfaces (Feldspathic and IPS Empress II) were compared to hydrofluoric (HF) acid etching. 60 ceramic discs were prepared, including two groups: Feldspathic and IPS Empress II surfaces. In each group, the following subgroups were prepared: 2W Er,Cr:YSGG laser, 2.5W Er,Cr:YSGG laser, and HF acid-etching. Ceramic primer and adhesive resin composite were applied and then light-cured to bond the ceramic cylinders to brackets. The samples were stored in distilled water for 24h and then, thermocycled. SBS testing was performed with a universal testing machine. Two-way ANOVA was used to compare SBS among subgroups (P<0.05). The highest SBS was seen in feldspathic surfaces with HF preparation (14.61±3.11MPa). There was a significant difference in SBS between different surface treatments except between the laser groups of IPS Empress II. Also, feldspathic surfaces had significantly higher SBS than IPS Empress II in all groups except HF. Conventional surface treatment provides much stronger adhesion than laser regardless of the ceramic type. Er,Cr:YSGG laser is effective on the SBS of the feldspathic ceramics, but not in IPS Empress II ceramics. So, laser treatment can be recommended as a favorable setting for treating feldspathic surfaces.
