The main objective of the study was to determine the developmental abilities of preschool children before and after six months of speech therapy treatment, and to examine the impact of the time of initiation of speech therapy treatment on the developmental abilities of children. The sample consisted of 35 children (20 male children and 15 female children), and all respondents reported early intervention due to speech and language difficulties. The age of the respondents ranged from 25 to 60 months. After conducting interviews with parents, taking anamnestic data, professional speech therapy diagnosticobservational procedure and determining speech-language disorders, the children underwent speech therapy treatment. After six months, a final assessment was made and the results showed statistically significant progress in all variables describing developmental abilities in children. The predictor “Time of treatment initiation” also had a statistically significant impact on all tested variables of developmental abilities of preschool children. The results showed that speech therapy treatment enables significant progress in all developmental areas in children, i.e. that progress in one development area follows the development of other areas.

ABSTRACT Purpose: to review, in an integrative manner, studies using surface electromyography in the orofacial and cervical musculature in mouth breathing children aged from three to 11 years and 11 months old. Methods: the survey was conducted in national and international databases, from 1998 to 2018, in Portuguese, English and Spanish. Review articles, dissertations, book chapters, case studies and editorials were excluded. Results: 86 articles were found, 14 of which met the inclusion criteria. Most of these studies used surface electromyography to assess and describe the muscle condition of the mouth breathing population. Only one study addressed the influence of myofunctional speech therapy and two studies included physical therapy treatment, using electromyographic evaluation before and after the intervention. Given the main categories of analysis, the discussion was based on the year, state of publication and journal, sample size, scientific methodology, muscles assessed, assessment protocols used and the results of the publications. Conclusions: surface electromyography has been used mainly in the initial assessment of orofacial and postural myofunctional changes caused by mouth breathing and not as a therapeutic biofeedback, thus, it is important to conduct longitudinal studies using this instrument in mouth breathers.

ABSTRACT Purpose To compare the treatment time for acquired neurological disorders of communication and the reason for discharge of users of a medium complexity care service for two periods: before and after implementation of treatment indicators. Methods A retrospective cohort study was carried out involving the analysis of medical records of users of the Adult Language Sector of the Speech and Hearing Therapy Service of the Integrated Rehabilitation Center, seen before and after treatment indicators implementation. Results 129 electronic medical records of users who remained under treatment until discharge from speech therapy in the two studied periods were analyzed. The mean duration of speech therapy for these users was 10.9 months for the first period and 7.8 months for the second period. After implementation of the indicators with regular reassessments, 72 out of the 89 users continued with treatment. There was a statistically significant difference in the therapy average time and reason for discharge before and after treatment indicators implementation. Conclusion After treatment indicators implementation, there was a reduction of the average speech therapy treatment time for communication disorders and an increase of speech therapy discharge percentage of users seen in a Brazilian service of medium complexity.

ABSTRACT Purpose: to check the effect of an educational intervention on the prevention of domestic child accidents, carried out by Speech Therapy trainees. Methods: an interventional research that uses primary research data. The action was done by two interns of Speech Therapy with 30 caregivers of children who attended a Family Health Unit. For the carrying out of the educational intervention, two pictures with images which represented objects and situations of risk of accidents were used. Two interview scripts were elaborated, which allowed to identify the caregivers’ personal data and their knowledge about the risks of child accidents in the domestic environment before and after carrying out of the educational intervention. Results: before the educational action, the caregivers identified 187 situations for child accidents, and after the intervention, 215 dangers were identified. Among the 30 caregivers who participated, 23 had significant changes in their answers and seven did not have any change in their knowledge. The main change was in relation to "Accidental poisoning-intoxication by exposure to harmful chemicals" and "The impact caused by an object thrown, projected or falling". Conclusion: the intervention promoted an increase in the participants’ correct reports, and it can be incorporated to the actions of accidents prevention carried out by the trainees and professionals of Speech Therapy who work in basic healthcare.

Orthodontists correct dental malocclusion, but major facial skeleton deformations (skeletal malocclusion) are often subject to surgical correction. Several speech pathologies are associated with both of the occlusal anomalies mentioned above. The majority of articulation disorders and primary functions cannot be improved without skeletal correction. This study aimed to investigate the outcome of the multimodal and logopaedics treatment of Polish adults affected by skeletal malocclusion and speech-language pathology. A total of 37 adults affected by skeletal Class II and III malocclusion were included, along with the relationship between the malocclusion and speech deficiency (20 phonemes tested) in the subjects before and after surgical correction. The impact of surgery on pronunciation improvement and types of Polish phonemes most often misarticulated by Polish adults were also examined. Patients underwent combined treatment and received a full speech pathology examination. The treatment improved speech (p < 0.05), but the study did not prove that a specific surgery type was associated with pronunciation improvement. Some patients were provided with speech therapy during childhood, yet most had some minor difficulties with lip and tongue movements. Palatal, alveolar (p < 0.05), fricatives (p < 0.05), and labiodental consonant pronunciation (p < 0.05) improved. The surgical correction of malocclusion leads to better articulation of Polish consonants in adults and improves some primary functions.

The scientific article proves that the functional aspects of motor-speech development in senior preschool children with stuttering are closely related to the basic morphofunctional provision of motor skills and speech, which involves activating the cerebral cortex, improving blood supply to the brain, restoring motor and articulatory innervation. By applying a multidisciplinary approach philosophical, psychophysiological, neurobiological, psychological and linguistic aspects of the nature of rhythm were highlighted. Comparative indicators of the level of motor and speech rhythm development were determined before and after performing logarithmic exercises. Theoretical and methodological analysis of the problem of motor and speech rhythms development in children of senior preschool age with stuttering confirmed the assumption about delayed rhythm development in children of this nosological group. The need for a comprehensive study of this issue was the driving force for carrying out the observational experiment, whose purpose was to study the peculiarities of the development of motor and speech rhythms in older preschool children with stuttering. In the process of analyzing the comparative characteristics of the levels of motor and verbal response in senior preschool children with stuttering, it was proved that these two processes develop simultaneously and are interdependent. The retardation of one process leads to the retardation of the other one, which affects the development of children's motor and verbal (speech) rhythm. Comparative characteristics of the formation levels of motor and verbal rhythms in senior preschool children with stuttering before and after correctional and developmental classes show that after performing correctional and developmental exercises there are no children with zero and low levels of reproduction, while medium and sufficient levels of motor reproduction and speech response prevail. This fact experimentally confirmed that the selected correctional and developmental work, conducting of speech therapy and logorhythmic classes aimed at the development of motor and verbal rhythms contributed to a significant improvement in the children’s results.

Zakat is one of the five pillars of Islam which has a function of faith, social and economic functions. Muslims who can pay zakat are required to give at least 2.5 per cent of their wealth. The problem of poverty prevalent in disadvantaged regions because of the difficulty of access to information and communication led to a gap that is so high in wealth and resources. The instrument of zakat provides a paradigm in the achievement of equitable wealth distribution and healthy circulation. Zakat potentially offers a better life and improves the quality of human being. There is a human quality improvement not only in economic terms but also in spiritual terms such as improving religiousity. This study aims to examine the role of zakat to alleviate humanitarian issues in disadvantaged regions such as Sijunjung, one of zakat beneficiaries and impoverished areas in Indonesia. The researcher attempted a Cibest method to capture the impact of zakat beneficiaries before and after becoming a member of Zakat Community Development (ZCD) Program in material and spiritual value. The overall analysis shows that zakat has a positive impact on disadvantaged regions development and enhance the quality of life of the community. There is an improvement in the average of mustahik household incomes after becoming a member of ZCD Program. Cibest model demonstrates that material, spiritual, and absolute poverty index decreased by 10, 5, and 6 per cent. Meanwhile, the welfare index is increased by 21 per cent. These findings have significant implications for developing the quality of life in disadvantaged regions in Sijunjung. Therefore, zakat is one of the instruments to change the status of disadvantaged areas to be equivalent to other areas.

Abstract: This research aims to analyze the impact of Janti Flyover Construction toward the growth of layout at Janti Urban Area, including structured space, open space, and linkage. Method used for data collecting are observation, air photograph monitoring, and interview, whereas the analysis method is qualitative description, which is the superimposed method of two layers, that are the layout condition before and after flyover construction. The result shows that the impact of Janti Flyover construction can be seen on building mass (solid), the increasing number of open spaces, including the road network, parking place, and park, whereas the relation between spaces, visually and structurally, can be seen on the growth of buildings which have new shapes and styles, therefore the performance of the overall building does not have a proportional shape. Considering Janti Street at the collective relation, its role is getting stronger as the main frame road network. Keywords: Flyover construction, layout changing, Janti AreaAbstrak: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis pengaruh pembangunan Jalan Layang Janti terhadap perkembangan tata ruang Kawasan Janti, meliputi ruang terbangun, ruang terbuka, serta hubungan antar ruang (“linkage”).
