ABSTRACT The aim of the current study is to present a treatment approach in a case of severe early childhood caries (ECC). A 5-year-old girl was referred to the Pediatric Dentistry Division with multiple premature tooth loss, masticatory difficulties, prolonged breast-feeding, and low quality of life, who was diagnosed with severe ECC. A three-phased treatment plan was implemented: 1. Disease control – consisting of behavioral changes in oral hygiene habits, diet guidance, professional biofilm removal followed by fluoride application and temporary restorations; 2. Infection control – teeth extractions and pulpotomy; and 3. Functional rehabilitation – direct and semi-indirect resin restorations, a removable partial and total prostheses in the lower and upper jaws, respectively. In conclusion, the proposed multidisciplinary approach resulted in a positive impact on the patient’s nutrition and growth, speech production, communication, self-image, and social functioning leading to an improved quality of life.

Mesiodens is the more frequent supernumerary tooth, located between the upper central incisors and can be found in deciduous or permanent dentition, with greater predominance for males, which can cause functional, aesthetic and psychological changes. Aiming to report a clinical case that presents two mesiodens bilaterally in the anterior maxillary region, causing impaction of the permanent upper central incisors. A non-syndromic, male, 5-year-old patient sought care accompanied by his legally responsible at the Pediatric Dentistry Clinic of the Universidade do Grande Rio, referred by the private clinic because it was believed that the procedure could only be performed with the use of conscious sedation. The treatment plan was carried out through imaging exams and clinical evaluation. It is concluded that a good evaluation, diagnosis, and adequate planning are fundamental in therapeutics. Therefore, they have allowed the eruption of the central incisors, contributing to a better quality of life and self-esteem.

<p>Discrepancies in tooth shape and placement of the anterior teeth represent uncomfortable esthetic scenario for many patients. Even current composite resin proximal build-up is considered to be practical and conservative, in some cases, interdisciplinary approach with orthodontics optimize functional and esthetic results. This case report describes the management of a patient who complained of lack of anterior esthetic, which compromises her quality of life. The correct diagnosis and the treatment with interdisciplinary strategy are highlighted to offer a reliable and promissory treatment.</p><p><strong>Keywords:</strong> Composite resin; Diastema closure; Orthodontics</p>

ABSTRACT Oral cancer necessitates the surgical removal of all or part of the maxilla. The extent of surgical resection is dependent on the size, location, and potential behavior of the tumor. The maxillectomy procedure leaves the patient with a defect that compromises of the integrity and function of the oral cavity, leading to hypernasal speech, fluid regurgitation into the nasal cavity, and impaired masticatory function. Rehabilitation of subtotal and total bilateral maxillectomy surgical defects is a complex challenge to the prosthodontist. Prosthetic rehabilitation of the surgical defect with the help of obturator is very important, because the resulting functional deficiencies have a detrimental effect on the quality of life and self-esteem of the patient. BACKGROUND Self-satisfaction can be influenced by malocclusion resulting in impairment of psychology, associated with low self-esteem (SE) and quality of life issues (QOL). Certain malocclusions and orthodontic treatment needs are related to QOL and they can affect the psychological development and social skills of adolescents and young adults, who are the most common orthodontic patients. This study was done to assess the self-esteem and Orthognathic Quality of Life (OQL) among female participants with different types of malocclusion in private orthodontic clinics in Jeddah. METHODS This questionnaire-based study evaluated the effect of orthodontic malocclusion on SE and QOL in female orthodontic patients with Class I, Class II, Class III malocclusion, crowded anterior teeth, proclined anterior teeth, open bite, and deep bite patients. Patients were evaluated before starting orthodontic treatment with Rosenberg’s SelfEsteem Scale and the Orthognathic Quality of Life Questionnaire (OQLQ) to find any correlation with malocclusion severity. RESULTS The results indicated that females who had Class II proclination and Class II deep bite type of malocclusion had significantly higher negative SE compared to other types. In the oral function component of the OQLQ, Class II malocclusion had statistically significant higher OQLQ scores than Class I Open bite (mean difference = 6.11, P = 0.004) and Class II Deep bite (mean difference = 4.88, P = 0.015). CONCLUSIONS The results suggest that female orthodontic patients with severe Class II and / or severely protrusive lip profile, deep bite may have lower SE and QOL than those with crowding, open bite, and Class III malocclusion. ABSTRACT Aim This case report describe a resin layering restorative technique based on biomimetic concept to improve esthetics in a patient with dental defects that affected both enamel and dentin in anterior teeth. Background Severe structural defect in anterior teeth compromises esthetics and it is a high challenge to become the defect imperceptible after the restoration. Case description A clinical sequence of applying different composite resin layers allowed the reproduction of the interaction between hard dental tissues and the restorative material. Conclusion This technique achieved a satisfactory final esthetic outcome, preserving sound teeth structure and at same time, improved the quality of life of the young patient. Clinical significance The utilization of the biomimetic concept to increase a disharmonic smile with dental defects is based in a conservative approach, which reached a satisfactory and esthetic outcome. This paper is a summary report on the basic questions of the biopsychosocial approach to Parkinson’s disease. It deals with cognitive, affective and psychological health issues which significantly influence the outcome of the physical rehabilitation. In spite of the unchanged cognitive status, the psychological burden of the changes in the quality of life, the obstruction, the change in the affective tone, and the shrinking ability to fulfil social roles decrease the patient’s quality of life. An interdisciplinary approach is best suited for mitigating these effects. Not only the patient but also his/her family and environment is seriously affected by the disease and its consequences. Treatment and rehabilitation options for increasing or maintaining the quality of life of the affected patients are diverse, and significantly depend on the features of the health care system. The authors believe that the following review emphasizing health psychological principles may contribute to the work of professionals working in clinical and rehabilitational fields and through them may increase the quality of life of patients and their family. Abstract In Poland, the last 15 years have been marked by various, numerous regeneration projects of historic cities that were supposed to improve the citizens quality of life and their security, as well as to create an attractive tourist offer. Those programs were often focused on the renewal, reshape and modernization of public squares. Such changes never go unnoticed. On contrary, these are frequently associated with criticism, debate and disagreements. The research has been focused on the analysis of regeneration projects from selected Market Squares in historic cities and town centres in Lower Silesia. The main aim was to exhibit the medieval origin of those squares and recently introduced contemporary layout. Moreover it was to present diverse opinions regarding square’s form and function, that can be crucial in understanding the architects, planners and citizens’ points of view and their ‘feelings’ towards the space.

Background: The systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) patients oftentimes suffer from both physical and psychosocial challenges that may lead to low health-related quality of life (HRQoL). However, limited research has been done in this area. Objective: To examined mental health status and HRQoL among SLE patients in Thailand. Materials and Methods: The present study was a cross-sectional study conducted at the rheumatology clinic of four major hospitals in Thailand. The paper-based questionnaire consisted of demographic, health history such as depression, anxiety, stress Scale (DASS-21), and the Rosenberg self-esteem scale (RSE), and the disease-specific Lupus Quality of Life scale (LupusQoL). Depending on the variable’s level of measurement such as categorical or continuous, Spearman’s Rho or Pearson’s product moment correlation coefficients were used to explore the relationships among the variables. Hierarchical multiple regression was used to identify the predictors of LupusQoL. Results: Among the 387 participants, many might have experienced depression, anxiety, and stress (30%, 51%, and 29%, respectively). Self-esteem among the participants was good (31.8 out of 40). All eight domains of LupusQoL were affected with intimate relationship domain being impacted the most. The overall LupusQoL was significantly associated with the number of prescribed medications (r=–0.23), depression (r=–0.70), anxiety (r=–0.58), stress (r=–0.67), and self-esteem (r=0.59), p<0.001. Significant predictors of the overall LupusQoL were mental health status (depression, anxiety, and stress) and self-esteem, F (3, 81)=43.10, p<0.001, adjusted R²=0.60. Conclusion: SLE patients should be holistically assessed in both physical and psychological aspects. In addition to proper medical treatments, healthcare providers should use a multidisciplinary team approach to resolve the patients’ psychosocial issues, which in turn, may increase the patients’ quality of life. Self-care education may be necessary to help the patients manage the condition and decrease the number of medications. Keywords: Mental health, Quality of life, SLE, Thailand
