The aim of this study was to assess career aspiration and its three subscales (leadership, achievement, educational) and their relationship with life-satisfaction in final year medical school students of both genders. This cross-sectional study was carried out in final year students of a medical college in Rawalpindi,Pakistan using 24 items revised English Version of Career Aspiration Scale (CAS) and 5 items Satisfaction with Life Scale (SWLS). This study was conducted on total 88 final year medical school students, among them 44 were males and 44 were females. Findings show significant correlation of career aspiration with lifesatisfaction, as well as of its educational subscale and life satisfaction. There was a non-significant correlation of achievement and leadership subscales of career aspiration with life-satisfaction. Medical students who are more aspired towards their career seem to be more satisfied in their life. Moreover, medical students were more interested in getting more and more education but there is lack of aptitude towards achievement and leadership, signifying the need of mentoring amongst medical students. Practical steps should be taken to develop achievement and leadership aspects of medical students, which can ultimately enhance their career aspirations.

Background:The professional education can be stressful experience and medical students are exposed to high levels of stress in both theoretical and clinical components of their educational programme. The high level of stress often leads to disruptions in physiological and psychological health.Objective:The purpose of this study was to study stress in medical school students of Semnan university.Methods:This study was a descriptive and cross-sectional research. The sample were 211 students of general physicians (160) and paramedical (51). 206 students filled in a questionnaire.Data were collected using a stress questionnaire (R.S.Eliot). Then data were analyzed by SPSS and mean, frequency distributions. For this study were used chi-square, spearman and pearson correlation coefficient.Results:The findings showed 9.7% of students under study had high control degree, 82.5% of students had intact life but sometimes stressful situation caused anxiety for them, 6.8% of students feel depress and 1% in their life have mental crisis or conflict.Conclusion:Teaching to students in order to reduce stress level and provide educational improvement in medical students are recommended.

Background: Alfred W. Adler (1870-1937), psychotherapist and founder of the school of individual psychology, believed that education, marriage, and job play important role in human development. Higher learning is a demanding and challenging period for students that can result in high rates of psychological distress affecting their life satisfaction. Aim: The research is to study the links between family communications, perceived stress and resilience with life satisfaction among pre-university students in UPM. Method: A cross-sectional study was conducted among a sample of 310 (females 158 and 152 males) pre-university students from a public university in Malaysia. Four instruments were used in this research namely the Family Communication Scale (FCS, Olson et al., 2004), Perceived Stress Scale (PSS, Cohen et al., 1983) Resilience Scale (CD-RISC, Connor-Davidson, 2003) & The Satisfaction with Life Scale (Diener et al. 1985). The data were analyzed using independent t-test, Pearson correlation coefficients and multiple regressions. Results: The finding of this study revealed that there are simple and multiple relationships between family communications, perceived stress and resilience with life satisfaction among pre-university students. Conclusion: The research may guide university counselors to view adolescents’ life satisfaction holistically and assist them in developing preventive and intervention plans for the university new enrolled students. Also, the results will provide students with some knowledge on their life satisfaction and its effects on their future accomplishments. Abstract Background Currently, in developed countries, more and more women and men intend to delay childbearing and, later in life, seek fertility treatment. Some women undergoing infertility treatment develop negative feelings (anxiety, depression and irritation) associated with low life satisfaction. We aimed to examine the association between infertility-related factors, including regret over the delay in childbearing decision and life satisfaction, among Japanese women and men seeking fertility treatment. Methods This cross-sectional study included 253 women and 196 men referred to fertility facilities in Japan from July to December 2018. Participants completed a questionnaire on infertility-related factors, regret over the delay in childbearing decision, life satisfaction and sociodemographic characteristics. Life satisfaction was measured with Satisfaction with Life Scale, and the degree of regret over delay in childbearing decision was measured using a seven-point Likert scale. Participants were divided into two groups based on the neutral point of the Satisfaction with Life Scale (20-point score). Answers from the groups were compared using the Mann-Whitney U-test for continuous and ordinal variables and Chi-square tests for categorical variables. Logistic regression analyses were used to examine the association between infertility-related factors and life satisfaction. Results Regrets over the delay in childbearing decision were significantly higher in the low life satisfaction group than the high life satisfaction group ( p = 0.010); it was also negatively associated with life satisfaction (adjusted Odds Ratio = 0.85, 95% confidence interval = 0.74-0.97, p = 0.020). Further, life satisfaction was positively associated with previous live birth (adjusted Odds Ratio = 2.84, 95% confidence interval = 1.38-5.85, p = 0.005). Conclusions To reduce their regret over their decision-making related to childbearing, women and men seeking fertility treatment should be cared for by health professionals. Moreover, reproductive-aged women and men need to make informed decision-making about the timing of childbearing to avoid, later in life, feelings of regret over delayed decisions, mainly because not regretting such an important aspect of life is crucial to allow people to live a satisfying life.

Life satisfaction is one of the main dimensions of well-being related to psychological factors, being essential for a person to adjust to difficult circumstances. The restrictive measures adopted to minimize the diffusion of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) could alter the subjective dimension of well-being, so the objective of this study was to determine the factors related to life satisfaction of the Spanish population during forced home confinement derived from the COVID-19 pandemic. A cross-sectional study was designed, based on an online survey, and disseminated through the main social networks, which included the Satisfaction with Life Scale (SWLS) and sociodemographic and COVID-19-related variables. The possible relationships between the different variables were studied using univariate and multivariable regression analyses. A total of 3261 subjects participated in the study. Factors associated with greater personal life satisfaction were fewer days of home confinement (β = (−0.088); p ≤ 0.001), the perception of having received enough information (β = 0.076; p ≤ 0.001), having private access to the outside (β = 0.066; p ≤ 0.001), being employed (β = 0.063; p ≤ 0.001), being male (β = 0.057; p = 0.001) and not having been isolated (β = 0.043; p = 0.013). The results of this study provide novel information about the profiles of people related to greater well-being and life satisfaction during forced social distancing and home confinement, but more studies are needed to help to understand and complement these findings.

Abstract Objective: To assess associations between subjective well-being (SWB), religiosity, anxiety and other factors in a sample of Brazilian medical students from a public university in northeastern Brazil. Methods: The present study followed a cross-sectional, observational, analytical approach. Data were collected by administering a self-applicable questionnaire composed of questions focused on sociodemographic data and based on the Satisfaction With Life Scale (SWL), Positive Affect and Negative Affect Scale (PANAS), Penn State Worry Questionnaire (PSWQ), and the Duke Religiosity Index (DUREL). Results: The sample comprised 417 medical school students (73.54% of all the enrolled students). The medical students assessed presented a medium level of satisfaction with life, low mean positive emotion levels and high anxiety/uneasiness levels. Surprisingly, lower anxiety and intrinsic religiosity (IR) scores were associated with higher scores in the two SWB parameters (positive emotions and satisfaction with life). Furthermore, the factors leisure activities, good sleep quality, financial support, age, and gender were associated with the highest SWB scores (with emotional and cognitive components, or with only one of these two components). Conclusions: Data in the current study corroborated the negative association between SWB and anxiety; however, in opposition to the literature, they also evidenced a negative association between SWB and IR. In addition, the present research signaled the need for creating preventive intervention programs to increase SWB through positive psychological techniques and/or to decrease anxiety by applying, for instance, cognitive-behavioral therapy paradigms and/or mindfulness techniques to medical students.
