The study presents the integrated course “Foreign Language for Specific Purposes (English)” developed for Master students of Pavlo Tychyna Uman State Pedagogical University. The experiment involves 84 respondents. The empirical basis of the study is the results obtained during three-months’ work with master students. Theoretical, empirical and statistical methods are used to conduct the study. The study investigates benefits and challenges of blended learning in studying English by Master students. The results of the questionnaire indicate the quality of teaching the course “Foreign Language for Specific Purposes (English)” as moderately positive and point out blended learning as an essential streamlined approach for creating effective learning experiences. The obtained results confirm the favourable Master students’ perceptions of blended learning in studying English during Covid-19 pandemic. Based on the findings of the study, which indicate benefits and challenges of blended learning in studying English, the authors give recommendations to improve the course “Foreign Language for Specific Purposes (English)”.

The circumstances of active implementation of a blended learning format at all educational levels require increased motivation and advancement of the competences learned by students of higher education institutions.Such statement equally applies to foreign language competence, which is one of most relevant skills to the future professional activity of international relations specialists. In considering this, the Ukrainian higher education institutions conducted a study on the development of foreign language competence of higher education students in the context of blended learning. The purpose of the article is to develop and empirically establish the effectiveness of the author's model of foreign language competence development of higher education students in the context of blended learning. The study involved the development, implementation and evaluation of the effectiveness of the author's model of foreign language competence development of higher education students in the context of blended learning. The participants of the study were students of higher education institutions: HEI 1, HEI 2, HEI 3, who majored in the following specialties: international activities, international relations and some technical specialities. The participants were 1st, 3rd and 5th year students.A total of 138 students were interviewed (68 from the experimental and 70 from the control group). The study confirmed that the implementation of the method of organizing the formation of foreign language competence of higher education students, which requires an optimal combination of blended learning with modern digital tools and the professional orientation of foreign language training in the system of higher education institutions, helps advance foreign language competence of higher education students.

Purpose. To determine the level of students interest in internal quality assurance, particularly in passing the survey and changing the teaching quality level and improving teachers pedagogical skills. Methodology. For the data collection, a questionnaire was used which included closed-end questions on the quality of teaching and open questions in terms of comments and recommendations of higher education students on the quality of teaching and several questions concerning the share of classes in the discipline attended by the students, ECTS scores, received by students from the relevant disciplines and the average score for the entire period of study. Findings. Sumy State University (SSU) introduced an online survey of students as the main consumers of educational services regarding the quality of teaching disciplines. Over the last 3 academic years, there has been an increase in the number of teachers whose activities are evaluated by students. There has been an increase in the number of teachers who, according to students, show excellence in teaching, which is a positive trend. If in the 20172018 academic year the number of such teachers in SSU was 57people, then in the 20192020 academic year, it increased by 35% to 77 people. Quality level Above average was determined for 120 teachers in the 20172018 academic year, and in the 20192020 academic year, their number increased by 30% and amounted to 156 people. It is noteworthy that in the 20192020 academic year compared to 20172018, there is a reduction in the number of teachers from 71 to 66 people (7%), who demonstrated the level of teaching Low. Originality. Survey of students on the quality of teaching educational components, on the one hand, allows monitoring students satisfaction with methods used by the teacher in training and communicating with students, and on the other hand, it is a method to control the institutions authority over the educational service quality and the HEIs mission implementation. It also indicates an increase in students interest in participating in higher educations internal quality assurance. An important factor influencing the positive dynamics of the teaching quality level is that each semester teachers receive a detailed analysis of students answers with a visual display for each questionnaire, as well as their comments and suggestions for teaching the relevant discipline through the information service Personal teachers office based on the results of the survey. Practical value. According to the analysis results of the received information, managerial decisions can be developed and implemented to improve the content and practice of educational components implementation, improving the professional skills of research and teaching staff, advancement of best pedagogical practices.

The author attended the Annual Assembly of the Engineering Professors' Council, held at St Catherine's College, Oxford, on 6–8 April 1998. He reports on the presentations, discussions and debates. The principal concern was the relationship between the higher education sector and engineering employers and the need for higher education institutions to recognize and deliver engineering graduates with sufficient ‘added value’ to be capable of quickly adding to the value of an engineering company. Measuring the quality of teaching and research in UK universities, a key factor in adding value to students, remains a problem area for the academic staff.

Higher education institutions (HEIs) are increasingly being held accountable for maintaining quality in their activities by governments, industry, students, and the community as a whole. Accreditation agencies formulate assessment criteria covering the entire range of HEI activities so that the quality of HEI activities can be measured. However, as the perceptions of stakeholders varies of what makes a good HEI, it is crucial to investigate their opinions about the standards set by these agencies. This study uses focus group discussions involving Omani HEI stakeholders, including students, HEI staff, and employers, to gain insights into their perceptions on the most significant standards set by Oman Academic Accreditation Authority (OAAA) in measuring the quality of HEIs. It was found that stakeholders’ views of the key standards that measure HEI quality varies. Students were in favor of the standards related to the quality of teaching and learning. Students also show a good level of awareness about employers’ priorities. Employers were more concerned about the research skills of graduates and their industry and community involvement. There was also some agreement between staff and employers on the importance of governance and management. This study provides HEIs, OAAA, and partner universities insights into stakeholder priorities and concerns.

Although the quality of teaching and learning of geography in many schools is worrying, another more basic problem is that of teachers lacking basic resources to use in their classrooms. Higher education institutions are expected to engage with and be of service to society and its needs. The Green Box Project is reported on as a practical and sustainable solution to address the resource constraints that many teachers of geography contend with; a way of improving the quality of teaching and learning in schools; and a model to be used by higher education institutions for community engagement.

ABSTRACT

In the search for more quality teaching and to capture funds from government investments, there is a need to balance the improvement of financial results and the quality of teaching. The aim of this work is to analyze the contributions of the Management Excellence Model (MEG) for the management of an IES laboratory and its relationship with the ABNT NBR ISO/IEC 17025 standard. Hence, an interview with the members of the laboratory was carried out and the evaluation of the laboratory was performed through the MEG. It was possible to verify that only with the evaluation of the MEG of 250 points it was not possible to identify all the problems that the laboratory was facing. The ABNT NBR ISO / IEC 17025 standard contributed to the achievement of a positive mark in the MEG evaluation.
