This study investigates the design and performance of a novel sorption system containing natural zeolite. The apparatus consists of packed, fixed-bed, dual-columns with custom automated controls and sampling chambers, connected in series and stock fed by a metering pump at a controlled adjustable distribution. The purpose of the system is to remove heavy metallic ions predominately found in acid mine drainage, including lead (Pb2+), copper (Cu2+), iron (Fe3+), nickel (Ni2+) and zinc (Zn2+), combined in equal equivalence to form an acidified total 10 meq/L aqueous solution. Reported trends on the zeolite’s preference to these heavy metallic ions is established in the system breakthrough curve, as Pb2+ >> Fe3+ > Cu2+ > Zn2+ >> Ni2+. Within a 3-h contact period, Pb2+ is completely removed from both columns. Insufficient Ni2+ removal is achieved by either column with the promptest breakthrough attained, as zeolite demonstrates the least affinity towards it; however, a 48.97% removal is observed in the cumulative collection at the completion of the analysis period. The empty bed contact times for the first and second columns are 20 and 30 min, respectively; indicating a higher bed capacity at breakthrough and a lower usage rate of the zeolite mineral in the second column. This sorption system experimentally demonstrates the potential for industrial wastewater treatment technology development. Keywords: zeolite; sorption; packed fixed-bed columns; heavy metallic ions; automated sampling design

The acceleration of improved sanitation access in specific urban areas can reduce water-borne diseases and the degradation of water resources. In this paper, the development of technology of wastewater infrastructure in some specific urban regions with an ecosystem approach will be analyzed based on some practical research. The ecosystem approach is analyzed with integrated biophysical and social factors for improved wastewater system; it includes the tidal area, coastal area, and urban water sensitive area. The system of wastewater treatment has certain design criteria to be adapted for specific areas and upgrading the treatment process based on the ecosystem characteristic, community awareness of sanitation and some best practices. The design criteria of wastewater treatment consider the process of environment approach, pollutant transformation target, and the configuration of the processing unit. The option of treatment technology at an individual, communal or settlement scale depends on biophysical factors in each area. This condition can achieve 80-95 % organic removal, 30-70 % nutrient removal by biofilm absorption or phytofiltration. Challenges and social constraints at each selected technology development have an influence on the sustainability of infrastructure in achieving health requirements and the standard of effluent for watercourse or water reuse.

The molybdenum cup and molybdenum pin, which are the main materials of the molybdenum electrode used for the LCD BLU CCFL electrode, have not been developed in Korea and imported from Japan. In this paper, especially, research on prototype manufacturing and CAE analysis is performed to develop a molybdenum pin. In this research, to develop the manufacturing technology of molybdenum pin used for CCFL electrode of LCD BLU, development of linear processing technology, development of molybdenum wire surface treatment technology, development of wire cutting technology, production of molybdenum pin, design and fabrication of JIG and Fixture for inspection, molybdenum pin prototyping and analysis, and development of 100% molybdenum pin inspection technology. The development of molybdenum pins developed through this research can overcome Japan's technological level, which depends entirely on imports from Japan, and it is thought that the development will have a significant impact on the overall industry using molybdenum pins.
