Abstract The aim of this study was to determine the solubility of pyridazinone derivative 6-phenyl-4,5-dihydropyridazin-3(2H)-one (PDP-6) in different “polyethylene glycol 400 (PEG 400)+water” mixtures at temperatures “T=293.2 K to 313.2 K” and pressure “p=0.1 MPa”. The solubilities of PDP-6 were determined using an isothermal method and correlated with Apelblat, van’t Hoff and Yalkowsky–Roseman models. The maximum solubilities of PDP-6 in mole fraction were obtained in neat PEG 400 (8.46×10−2 at T=313.2 K). However, the minimum one was recorded in neat water (7.50×10−7 at T=293.2 K). Apparent thermodynamic analysis showed an endothermic dissolution of PDP-6 in all (PEG 400 water) mixtures. Based on the solubility data of the current study, PDP-6 has been considered as practically insoluble in water and soluble in PEG 400.

The catalyzed liquefaction degradation of beet pulp (BP) had been studied in the system of solid silicotungstic acid and polyethylene glycol 400 (PEG400)/glycerol (GLY), in which the solid silicotungstic acid served as the catalyst, and the latter was the complex liquefacient. This paper investigated the influence of processing conditions of BP liquefaction on the liquefaction reaction and the properties of liquefaction product. The results showed that BP had a good liquefaction effect, and the optimum liquefaction processing conditions were founded as follows: the weight ratio of PEG 400/glycerol was 4:1, the liquefaction temperature was 175oC, the catalyst amount was 8%wt, the solid-liquid weight ratio was 1:12, and the liquefaction time was 135 min. In these conditions, it was found that the best liquefaction rate would reach 99.5%, the hydroxyl and acid values of liquefaction mixtures were 52-82mg/g and 0.61-0.75mg/g respectively, the final products were lower hydroxyl value plant-based polyol.

An alternative green method was developed for the synthesis of thio- and selenoflavones by the ring closure of 2-chlorophenyl ethynyl ketone with NaHY (Y = S, Se). These nucleophilic chalcogen species were generated in situ using NaBH4 to reduce the elemental chalcogen in the presence of polyethylene glycol-400 (PEG-400). The efficiency of this reaction is strongly dependent on the PEG-400 solvent, acting like a crown ether, complexing with the sodium atom of NaHY species, making the chalcogen nucleophile more active. The synthetic protocol proceeded efficiently at 100 °C under argon, using a range of 2-chlorophenyl ethynyl ketone containing alkyl, aryl, or vinyl groups and the sulfur and selenium chalcogen. By this efficient and simple approach, 18 chalcogenoflavones were obtained in good to excellent yields after 2 h.

Sweet orange contains flavonoids and citric acid that have the potential as a capping agent in the nanosilver biosynthesis process. The antibacterial activity of silver can be increased in nanoparticles, then it can be applied to treat acne through a peel-off mask preparation. Glycerin and Polyethylene glycol 400 are humectants that combined to obtain good physicochemical properties of the preparation. This study aims to determine the character of nanosilver biosynthesis and the effect of humectant combination on the physicochemical properties of the preparation. The characterization of nanosilver was employed by UV-VIS Spectrophotometry, Particle Size Analysis, and Scanning Electron Microscope. The Glycerin- PEG 400 combination was F1 (0:100%); F2 (25:75%); F3 (50:50%); F4 (75:25%) and F5 (100:0%). The results of nanosilver biosynthesis have an absorption peak of nanoparticles at 421-423nm, rod shape, the particle size of 83.2±7.2nm. Statistical analysis showed that the combination of Glycerin- PEG 400 had a significant effect on organoleptic, viscosity, and dry time, but did not affect the pH of preparation. The combination of Glycerin-PEG 400 (75%:25%) is the best formula because it has stable viscosity, dry time, and pH value during storage for four weeks. Keywords: nanosilver, biosynthesis, Citrus sinensis, humectants, peel off mask

The effect of the homogenization conditions of the film-forming emulsions on the mechanical properties of Methylcellulose (MC)-based films containing stearic acids (SA) was studied. For this purpose, the initial emulsions were prepared in different dry matter ratios and treated by different homogenization methods. The mechanical properties, including elastic modulus (EM), tensile strength (TS) and elongation (E) became worse with the increase of the SA content. Then the mechanical properties were compared as a function of the polyethylene glycol 400 (PEG-400) contents. As a plasticizer, the increasing of PEG-400 could improved E greatly, but EM and TS both declined slightly. And finally, when homogenization conditions were more intense, EM and TS increased significantly while E showed a fairly smooth curve.
