The aim of the study is the assessment of biological distance between populations from Arme-nian highland and Georgia based on the frequency of nonmetric odontological traits. These traits are characterized by high inter-population differentiation, low sexual dimorphism, and relatively small intra and inter observer recordation error. This paper presents the results of the odontological differentiation of human populations from Armenian highland and Georgia. The comparative analysis was carried out on 12 populations. Trait frequencies for all populations were analysed using principal component analysis. Results support the following conclusions: The populations of Armenian highland and Georgia can be differentiated as far as the frequency of odontological traits are concerned. Biocultural diversity of ancient Transcaucasian populations has not been studied extensively, therefore delineating some of the patterns of phenotypic variation may be useful for understanding their ongoing evolution.

Characteristics of the meristic features of the external morphology of young and adult snakes (the Colubridae family) of three species, namely, the grass snake Natrix natrix, the dice snake N. tessellata and the Pallas’ coluber Elaphe dione, living in the Samara region, are described. For the first time, a comparative analysis was carried out of a number of morphological characters of uneven-aged snakes, namely: newborns obtained in laboratory conditions, juvenile specimens, and adult snakes captured in nature. It was revealed that those morphological features which remained unchanged during the snake's life (the number of Ventr., Scd., Lab. and Temp. scales) significantly differred in specimens of laboratory and natural origin. Statistically significant differences were also found between young and adult specimens of the dice snake from nature.

Abstract We performed the taxonomic-floristic survey of subtribe Gonolobinae for the state of Ceará, as part of the “Flora do Ceará: knowing to conserve” project. The study was based on the comparative analysis of morphological characters, specialized bibliography, as well as photos of type-collections. In Ceará, six species of two genera were registered: Gonolobus rostratus, Matelea denticulata, M. endressiae, M. ganglinosa, M. harleyi, and M. nigra. Matelea ganglinosa has a broad distribution in the state, while G. rostratus, M. denticulata and M. endressiae are restricted. Matelea species were recorded in six Conservation Units and preferably dry environments (Stepic Savanna, Seasonal Deciduous Forest, and Lowland Semideciduous Forest).
