Curiosity is an attitude and action that seeks to know more deeply and broadly from something learned and acts as a driving force for learning. Generic science skills are thinking skills in intellectual abilities resulting from a combination of scientific knowledge and skills based on scientific knowledge. The purpose of this study was to determine the correlation between curiosity and students' generic science skills in science learning. This study uses a quantitative approach to explore the correlation between the variables studied. The total sample was 64 junior high school students, who were selected by random cluster sampling. Measurement of students' curiosity was carried out using a questionnaire, while generic science skills used multiple-choice test questions. The data obtained were then analyzed using simple linear regression on SPSS to determine the correlation between the two variables. The results showed that curiosity correlated with students' generic science skills (R = .389), with the category “low positive correlation.” The effect of curiosity on generic science skills is 15.1%, while other variables influence the rest.

Character building becomes an essential part in the science learning process to prepare the students as the next generations of our nations. This study aims to develop a valid, practical, and effective learning model combined with indigenous science content for junior high school students in developing local wisdom-based characters and high-order thinking skills. This research is a a research and development (R & D) approach with the Borg and Gall model involving 36 junior high school science teachers (72 teachers). The research instrument were a character questionnaire as well as a test of problem-solving, critical and creative thinking tests, along with an assessment rubric to measure the depth of students' cognitive abilities. From the results of the learning model trial, it was found that there are eight characters based on Balinese local wisdom that can be developed in science learning for junior high school students namely religious, being honest (satyam), tolerance (tat twam asi), responsible (sesana/swadharma), curious, jengah, hardworking and generous, caring and friendly with nature. Conceptually, the core stages of the junior high school science learning model to develop Balinese local wisdom based characters include: initial exploration, investigation from various perspectives, elaboration, and confirmation and reinforcement. The stages in the science learning model that develop characters based on local wisdom provide opportunities for teachers to improve students' cognitive abilities, especially in the realm of higher-order thinking skills.

This research aims develop weblog media about environmental contamination material to determine the reflective thinking skills of junior high school students. The development of a weblog as a learning medium used the ADDIE model. In this research up to the development phase. The weblog design has gone through the validation phase. The validation was performed by 4 validators using a validation sheet. Student responses were collected using a questionnaire and reflective thinking skills using multiple choice test. The developed weblog has been tested on 20 students of 8th grade. The results showed that the use of blogging media positively impacted students' reflective thinking skills, given the increase in mean pre-test and post-test scores from a score of 69.5 to 82. The increase in reflective thinking skills was seen in of the three indicators of reflective thinking, namely reacting from 79% to 81,5% in high category, elaborating from 50% in low category to 75% in high category and contemplating from 67% in normal category to 78,4% in high category. The use of blogging media to reinforce thinking skills is also supported by the results of student responses with an average result of 92,8% for aspects of reflective thinking.

This study aims to determine the critical thinking skills of high school students on salt hydrolysis. This research is quantitative descriptive. The population used in this study were all class XI IPA SMA in Gorontalo with a total sample of 64 respondents. Collecting data using a five-level multiple choice test instrument on salt hydrolysis material with an instrument validity value of 100%. The data analysis technique used in this research is descriptive quantitative. The results obtained the percentage of indicators of critical thinking skills, namely the focus criteria or Q1 level an average of 77.60%, the Reason criteria or Q2 level of 23.95%, the inference criteria or Q3 level of 8.85%, at Situation criteria or the Q4 level of 4.34% and the Clarity criteria or the Q5 level of 3.12%. Based on the results of the study it can be concluded that the ability of high school students to think critically on salt hydrolysis is 51.56% of students are in the very low category, 46.87% of students are in the low category and 1.56% of students are in the moderate category.

This study aimed to produce a guided inquiry learning science model through flipbook media which is appropriate for training critical thinking skills for junior high school students on the Human Respiratory System material. The development of the device is a modification of the 4-D model which was tested on eighth grade students of the junior high school even semester semester 2019/2020 and was repeated twice. This is One-Group Pretest-Posttest Design research design and the data collection uses the method of validation, observation, tests, and questionnaires. The research data generated are validity, practicality, and effectiveness of learning devices analyzed descriptively quantitative and qualitative. The results showed that (a) learning devices developed were categorized as very valid, (b) learning activities were carried out very well with an average score of 3.69, (c) student activities in learning were carried out very well, (d) student responses to learning inquiry was very good (95.99%), and (e) the results of students' critical thinking tests had a high increase, critical thinking skills increased from 28.37 (Very Less Critical) to 81.21 (Critical). The conclusion of the science learning device with guided inquiry learning model through the developed flipbook media is appropriate to be used to train students' critical thinking skills.

The research aims to know the influence of the nested type of integrated science learning model on junior high school students’ (1) critical thinking skills, (2) collaboration skills, and (3) the critical thinking skills and collaboration skills simultaneously. This research is a quasi-experimental study with a nonequivalent control group design. The population of this research is the whole class VII of SMPN 2 Godean. The sampling technique was cluster random sampling, so that class VII A was obtained as an experimental class, and class VII C as a control class. The learning in experiment class was conducted by using a nested type science integration model with a scientific approach, while the learning in control class with the scientific approach that teachers normally use in learning. The instruments used in this research are (1) pretest and posttest critical thinking skills, (2) collaboration skills observation sheets, and (3) learning achievement sheets. The analysis technique used is the independent sample t-test, manova test, and effect size. The result showed that there was a significant effect of learning the integration of nested science types on junior high school students’ (1) critical thinking skills in the medium category, (2) collaboration skills in the medium category, and (3) critical thinking skills and collaboration skills simultaneously.

Efforts to develop critical thinking skills are still educational goals which are expected to improve learning outcomes which have an impact on the performance and quality of students. It is important to measure critical thinking skills so that the right techniques can be found to develop and improve these thinking skills. This study aims to describe critical thinking skills and their relationship with science learning outcomes of SMPN students in the city of Mataram. This type of research is a quantitative descriptive study with a sample of 418 Grade VII students and 435 Grade VIII students who were determined using purvosive techniques. Collecting data using test instruments that have been validated by experts and tested for reliability. The results showed that the critical thinking skills profile of the students of SMPN Mataram City was classified as moderate, with an average score of 68.83 for grade seven (VII) and 70.69 for grade eight (VIII). So it can be said that the relationship between critical thinking skills and science learning outcomes is very low as indicated by the R square value. R square for class VII is 0.074, which means that critical thinking skills have an effect of 7% on science learning outcomes. R square for class VII is 0.097, which means that critical thinking skills have an effect of 9% on science learning outcomes. The critical thinking skills of SMPN students in Mataram City needs to be improved by improving the learning process and learning evaluation tools.

Critical thinking is one of the skills that must be possessed in studying science. During the Covid-19 pandemic, flipbooks and videos can be used as alternative media to improve students' critical thinking skills. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of using flipbooks and videos in improving the critical thinking skills of junior high school students during the pandemic. The method used in this research is descriptive quantitative. The data collected were in the form of students' pretest and posttest scores. The data were analyzed using the N-gain test and Independent Sample T-Test. The results showed: (1) learning videos were effective for improving students' critical thinking skills with an average score of 0.44 (medium) and (2) flipbooks were effective for improving students' critical thinking skills with an average score of 0.42 (medium). There is no significant difference between students' critical thinking skills, both after using flipbooks and videos.
