Introduction: Improving the Quality of Life (QoL) is considered one of the main objectives in the care of cancer patients. Achieving this objective, it is essential to determine the factors affecting QoL in cancer patients. The studies in the literature have determined the effects of various factors on QoL but social support from family has remained to be studied.  Objective: The present study aimed to determine the relationship between perceived social support from family and QoL in cancer patients. Materials and Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted in an oncology unit of a university hospital in İzmir City, Turkey, from March to October 2019. A convenience sample of 276 cancer patients participated in the study. A patient identification form, the Perceived Social Support from family scale (PSS-Family), and the Quality of Life index-cancer version (QLI-C) were used for data collection. The scores of PSS-Family and QLI-C range from 0 to 20 and from 66 to 396, respectively. Regression analysis was used to estimate the effect of perceived social support from family on QoL. Results: Of the participants, 65.2% were female. The Mean±SD age of the study sample was 47.5±14.4 years. Also, the Mean±SD scores of PSS-Family and QLI-C were 16.43±3.01 and 307.77±27.48, respectively. Regression analysis revealed that perceived social support from family was associated with a relative increase in QoL index (B=3.44, P=0.001, R2=0.141). Conclusion: Perceived social support from family is positively associated with QoL in cancer patients. Nurses should consider this relationship when they plan to improve the QoL of cancer patients.

Comprehensive discharge planning may enhance dimensions of the quality of life (QoL) in patients with coronary artery disease (CAD). Hence, the purpose of this study is to identify the correlation between perception of discharge planning and QoL among patients with CAD. A cross-sectional study was conducted using a self-administered questionnaire to 152 patients with CAD. The results from this study proved that majority of patients with CAD had a high level of QoL in the emotional domain (rho=-0.015, p=0.857) but low in the physical domain (rho=0.066, p=0.422) and social domain (rho=0.008, p=0.920).    Keywords: discharge planning; quality of life; coronary artery disease.    eISSN: 2398-4287© 2020. Based on the previous study, Attitude towards Safe Driving Scale (ASDS-46) was used jointly with and WHOQOL-BREF to examine the relationship. The result showed that ASDS-46 and WHOQOL-BREF have a high level of reliability with Cronbach's Alpha value .887 and .853 respectively. Domain 2 and 3 (psychological & social relationship) shows a positive correlation with the value of (P=.003 and .017). This study concludes that the positive correlation between driver's attitude and the psychological domain is an alarming issue which needs further investigation.Keywords:ASDS-46; WHOQOL-BREF; driver’s attitude; young adult© 2017.The Authors. Purpose:To record the health promotion behaviors of family caregivers of stroke survivors, as well as potential determinants that could affect these behaviors. Methods: A cross-sectional study was carried out through home visits in the Attica region using the convenience sampling method. The studied population included 109 survivors who had suffered a stroke and experienced functional problems, and their 109 primary caregivers, who were family members, lived in the same house and were fully responsible for their care. The dependent variables were the caregivers’ health promotion behaviors, while the independent variables were the survivors and caregivers’ demographic characteristics, survivors’ functional capacity, depression, social support and changes in caregivers’ lives from caring. Results: Better health promotional behaviors were associated with the following: patient having advanced age and a high level of functionality, caregivers assessing their own state of health as “good”, greater social support, a higher educational level and a higher income level. In addition, more hours of patient care were associated with a less healthy lifestyle for caregivers. Conclusions: Promoting the health of family caregivers of stroke survivors is crucial for both survivors and caregivers. For this reason, it is of great importance to detect factors that affect the health promotion behaviors of caregivers in order to carry out appropriate interventions and improve their quality of life.
