In the present system of imparting training to farmers, the training areas need are pre-decided by the planners which often do not match with the actual requirement, and do not fulfil the desired objectives of the training. Also, the farmers become uninterested in getting their skill improvement in the areas not suited to their needs. Keeping the above facts in mind, a study was undertaken during 2009-12 at ICAR RCER, Patna with the objectives to study the socio-economic attributes of farmers and field functionaries, to identify the training needs of farmers and field functionaries, and to suggest suitable policy recommendations. Data were collected through well-structured schedules developed for the purpose from 25 randomly selected farmers representing different socio-economic groups from each village selecting two villages from each block, two blocks from each districts and two districts from each agro-ecological zones of Bihar. Results indicated that input dealers should be trained on general agricultural aspects like safe use of pesticides, spraying techniques etc. as they are one of the important sources of information for the farmers. More time should be given on skilled demonstration, field trips, exposure visits so as to increase adoption of the technology.

Purpose Researchers’ competencies are directly related to the quality and effectiveness of the research they produce. However, training opportunities for education and conducting research seem to be limited for the growing research culture in Pakistan. The purpose of this study is to assess the research-related training needs of postgraduate researchers (PGRs) of Pakistan. Design/methodology/approach A quantitative research approach was used to conduct the study using a questionnaire. Non-random sampling technique was used to collect the data from the postgraduate (MPhil/MS and PhD) researchers enrolled in the two well renowned Pakistani Universities. Findings Results of the study confirmed that PGRs were interested in developing their skills in various areas of a research project such as topic selection, research design and use of data analysis software. Findings also highlighted that respondents were interested in learning reference management tools for citing and managing the sources of information in their research work. Originality/value This is the first study, which investigated the training needs assessment of PGRs enrolled in two major Pakistani universities. The results may help in designing training programs, promoting a conducive research culture in the country and improving the quality of research being produced. This study provided a framework likely to be beneficial for quality enhancement cells, universities and organizations in organizing effective research training and development programs for researchers of Pakistan.

This study has done to find the minimum needs to the people of Bogalur block, Ramanathpuram district of Tamil Nadu. Needs assessment is a process for determining an organizations needs. It usually consists of three main parts:Initiation, Data Collection & Analysis and Final Production.A needs assessment can be implemented within the organization and within the community to categorize an arising need. Any training needs assessment depends on the condition& situation of the place to implement. This research helps to understand the problem faced by the people and what kind of need they have. The methodology used for this study iscollection of secondary data, collection of primary data through PRAs and personal interview. And After identifying the need of poor community people, a plan has been developed for the block along with community participation.

Faculty in Third World countries are in need of training programs which will help them incorporate computer technology in their classrooms. Prior to delivery of training, it is important to conduct a needs assessment which determines who gets what type of training, and how this should be provided. A training needs assessment model for faculty in Third World countries is proposed in this article. The use of such a model would help identify the areas in which training is to be ultimately delivered.
