The extraction behavior of Sm(III) and Nd(III) with N,N,N?,N?-tetrabutyl-3-oxa-diglycolamide (TBDGA) in 70% kerosene-30% n-octanol from hydrochloride acid wasstudied. The effect of hydrochloric acid concentration, extractant concentration, and temperature on the distribution of rare earth elementswas investigated. The extraction mechanism was established and the stoichiometry of the main extracted species was confirm to be SmCl3?2TBDGA and NdCl3?2TBDGA for Sm(III) and Nd(III), respectively. The extraction distribution ratio decreases with an increase in temperature, which demonstrates that the extraction reaction is exothermic. The IR spectra of the loaded organic phase and free extractant were recorded and discussed.

The extraction behavior of Cu2+ using N,N,N,N-tetrabutyl-3-oxy-glutaramide from hydrochloric acid was studied. The effect of hydrochloric acid concentration, NaCl concentration, extractant concentration, and temperature on the extraction distribution of Cu2+ was also investigated. The result shows that the distribution ratio increases with an increase of the acid concentration, NaCl concentration or extractant concentration, but decreases with temperature, which demonstrates that the extraction reaction is exothermic.

The extraction behavior of Pr(III) has been investigated using four kinds of unsymmetrical diglycolamide (DGA) extractants having different alkyl chain lengths, namely N,N?-dimethyl-N,N?-didodecyldiglycolamide (DMDDdDGA), N,N?-diethyl-N,N?-didodecyldiglycolamide (DEDDdDGA), N,N?-dipropyl-N,N?-didodecyldiglycolamide (DPDDdDGA) and N,N?-dibutyl- N,N?-didodecyldiglycolamide (DBDDdDGA). The effect of the alkyl chain of amidic N atoms in DGAs on the extraction ability of Pr(III) is discussed. The extraction of hydrochloric acid and Pr(III) from hydrochloric acid medium by DGAs in sulfonated kerosene, toluene and octanol was studied. The effect of extractant concentration and diluents on the distribution ratio (D) of Pr(III) was investigated to understand the extraction mechanism. Pr(III) and Fe(III) can be separated very well by DMDDdDGA and DBDDdDGA diluted by toluene in hydrochloric acid solution. IR spectra of extracted species of DGA?HCl and DGA?Pr(III) were recorded to study the structure of the extracted species.

Based on the benefication of the complex silicate ore containing scandium, the research about aid-leaching agent used in the leaching of the scandium concentrate was been conducted. And the suitable leaching agent and aid-leaching agent which the useful ions entered into leaching liquid and the harmful ions were kept in leaching residue were been found according to the experiment results. For the scandium of sample existed various complex silicate ore as isomorphism form, the research has adopted hydrochloric acid with aid-leaching agent to dissociate the silicate ore and make scandium entering into solution. The research results has shown that the scandium leaching rate could reach 92.06% under the optimal conditions which the hydrochloric acid concentration is 22.8%, the dosage of aid leaching agent is 6%, liquid solid ratio is 4:1, particle size of leaching material totally is less than 0.15mm and leaching time is 8h.

The extraction of iron(III) from hydrochloric acid solution by the series of sulphoxides (R2SO) from dipentyl to didecyl sulphoxide in 1,1,2-trichloroethane has been studied. At a given strength of the extractant, extraction increases initially with increase in the acid concentration to a maximum at 8 M and decreases thereafter. Increase in H+ at constant Cl- strength or increase in Cl- at a given H+ increases the extraction. Under otherwise identical conditions, extraction increases with increase in the extractant concentration. The extracted species would appear to be HFeCl4,2R2SO. A mixture of two sulphoxides or of a sulphoxide and tributyl phosphate extracts the metal ion more than the sum of extractions due to the individual components.

Abstract Rare earth elements (REEs) have obtained a greatest significant in human lives owing to their important roles in various high technology applications. The present method development was deal technology important REEs such as neodymium, terbium and dysprosium, selective extraction with possible separation and recovery studies, successfully. The chloride mediated mixed aqueous solution containing 1500 mg/L each of REEs such as Nd, Tb and Dy was subjected at selective separation of Nd from other associated REEs. Three organo-phosphorous based commercial extracting agents such as Cyanex 272, PC 88A and D2EHPA, were employed for the extraction, possible separation and recovery of rare earth elements. A comparative extraction behavior of all these three extractants as function of time, pH influence, extractant concentration, temperature and diluents were systematically investigated. The extraction tendency of organo-phosphorus reagents towards the extraction of either of the REEs follows of the sequence as: D2EHPA > PC 88A > Cyanex 272. The thermodynamic behavior of either of the extractants on liquid–liquid extraction processing of REEs was investigated and thermodynamic calculations were calculated and presented. Substantial recovery of neodymium oxalate followed by its calcined product as neodymium oxide was ascertained from XRD study and SEM–EDS analysis.
