This study examined the relationship between adjustment to college as measured by Baker and Siryk's 1986 Student Adaptation to College Questionnaire, drinking patterns, and various aspects of student life (e.g., fraternity or sorority membership). A total of 114 students participated. Pearson product-moment correlations indicated several significant relationships.

Seorang pelajar pelu mempersiapkan diri untuk masuk ke dunia peralihan menuju ke jenjang pendidikan yang lebih tinggi. Pelajar perlu beradaptasi baik dengan tuntutan akademik, sosial, emosi personal, dan keterikatan dengan institusi perkuliahan. Di lain isi, pelajar di masa peralihan ini sangat erat dengan penggunaan media sosial di kesehariannya. Dalam studi ini dibahas mengenai hubungan antara penyesuaian diri mahasiswa dengan aktivitas penggunaan media sosialnya. Penelitian ini menggunakan survei yang dilakukan kepada 79 orang mahasiswa di Jabodetabek. Dalam penelitian ini, aktivitas penggunaan media sosial digambarkan melalui dua hal, yaitu durasi menggunakan media sosial dan interaksi dengan teman kampus di media sosial. Sedangkan penyesuaian diri pada mahasiswa digambarkan menggunakan kuesioner Student Adaptation to College (SACQ). Penelitian yang dilakukan menunjukkan bahwa terdapat beberapa aspek dari penggunaan media sosial yang berhubungan positif terhadap penyesuaian kehidupan sosial di kampus, yaitu: (1) tingkat keaktifan menggunakan media sosial, (2) jumlah teman sebaya yang dimiliki di media sosial, serta (3) intensitas interaksi terhadap teman sebaya baik yang merupakan teman satu kampus maupun beda kampus.

Objective: An association between anomalous parental bonding experiences (lack of parental care, overprotection, or both) and depression during adulthood has been observed in several studies. The objective of the present study was to evaluate several different personality dimensions as possible mediators of the relationship between perceptions of parental bonding and depressive symptoms in adulthood. Methods: Outpatients with depression (n = 138) completed the Parental Bonding Instrument (PBI), the Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), and several measures of proposed personality vulnerabilities to depression. The conceptual and methodological criteria of Baron and Kenny (1986) were used to assess possible mediating effects of personality variables. Results: In men, overprotection by their fathers was significantly associated with depression; neuroticism, socially prescribed perfectionism, and concern over mistakes acted as mediators of this relationship. In women, lack of care by their mothers was significantly associated with depression; self-criticism, socially prescribed perfectionism, and concern over mistakes mediated this relationship. Conclusions: The present study provides evidence that personality factors may mediate the observed relationship between parental rearing style and depression. These potential causal mechanisms warrant longitudinal evaluation.
