The process of teaching and learning in the schools only emphasized on the knowledge and understanding aspects and lack develop the skill of critical thinking of students so that they are poorly trained to develop reasoning power in responding and solving problem or applied the concept of science in life. The objective of this study was to improve the critical thinking skill of student using guided inquiry model with SETS (Science, Environment, Technology and Social) vision. This research was conducted in Senior High School (SMAN) 1 Kampar, class of XI IPA-1 and XI IPA-3. Improvement of critical thinking skill of student is measured using pre-test and post-test. The score of pre-test and post-test was analyzed using the N-Gain tested. The result of this study showed that skill to basic explanation, constructing of basic practice, generalization, and hypothesis making as the indicator of thinking ability of student were catagorized as moderate, meanwhile indicator of applied the concept was high with 0.834 of N-Gain value. The critical thinking of students for each indicator were increased that reflected from average value of pre-test and post-test of students. The finding of this study was  guided inquiry model with SETS vision able to improve the critical thinking of student of SMAN 1 Kampar.

The development of technology today has a huge impact on education, especially in the learning process. Therefore, an educator must be able to adapt the learning process to technological developments. One way to apply technology development in learning systems is to use e-modules in the learning process. The purpose of this study is to use guided inquiry-based e-modules to see the magnitude of the increase in students' critical thinking skills in the material reaction rate after using guided inquiry-based e-modules. The research method used a quasy experiment with a pretest-postest design using two classes as the experimental class and the control class. The sample in this study were students of State Senior High School (SMAN) 1 Sebrida Indragiri Hulu class XI. The results obtained were an increase in students' critical thinking abilities from before the use of guided inquiry-based e-modules. After the use of e-module based guided inquiry. This increase is seen from the comparison between the experimental class and the control cash class. The experimental class using e-module has a higher critical thinking ability of students than the control class that does not use e-module in the learning process.

A research and development study had been conducted to evaluate the appropriateness of local wisdom based physics teaching material in order to increase students’ critical thinking skill. This study was based on 4-D development model including Define, Design, Develop, and Disseminate. Data was gathered from 30 research participantsin SMK Kristen Fautmolo. Observation, interview, questionnaire and test were data collection techniques. Before applying the instruments in data field, validation was garnered from 4 physics experts with 3.75 total score in very good category which indicated the developed material’s applicability in teaching and learning process. The result revealed that the local wisdom-based physics teaching material was effective to improve students’ critical thinking skill with 0.80 of N-gain score (high) and 89.91% of students’ responses toward learning using the material. Therefore, it could be concluded that the developed local wisdom-based physics material was appropriate to be used in physics learning and could improve student’s critical thinking skill.

Until recently, not only students in middle high schools but also in a university have difficulties in understanding either mathematical representations or physical concept behind scientific phenomena. Those difficulties are then associated with a low level of critical thinking. For instance, in physics, it seems to be not easy for students to attain proper relation among wave speed, wavelength, and frequency. This unproper understanding contributes to students’ low critical thinking skill. One of the most effective ways to overcome the problem is to use student-centred learning with interactive, animated, and game-like learning experiences. Guided inquiry learning and a freely App “Physics Education Technology (PhET)” are believed to meet the criteria. This study focused on the students’ knowledge construction process to be able to think critically the wave-related concepts. This PhET-assisted guided inquiry learning strategy was addressed to 25 students at a junior high school in Indonesia. The objective is to explore the stages of inquiry learning approach using PhET, especially on training them to attain their critical thinking skill. This is a qualitative study that purely involves in-class observation. The lesson plan and student worksheets were prepared as the research instruments. As the results, we found that the use of PhET in the guided inquiry learning model can help students acquire to learn the concept of wave speed, wavelength, and frequency with critical thinking.

Education systemin this era, focused on 21st century. Learning of the 21st century is a system to the renewal of a movements education especially in the field of science and math . One of renewal is known with the STEM term. Competence of the 21st century is one of a concrete manifestation in terms of support learning the curriculum applied at present. One of the object of which is seen critical skill against. subjects found in the level of education, but in reality in the field is critical thinking skill being one an obstacle to human resources in indonesia. Referring to the teaching and learning process in the classroom, sometimes material that was delivered can not received optimally by students due to limited time face to face. The population of this research is SMAN 3 Sumbawa Besar at West Nusa Tenggara. The research sample as much as 54 students class XI random sampling technique. The collection of data used an essay of critical skill with a value of post test as quantitative data. The research results show that class of blended learning approach that uses STEM education shows that can improve critical skill of student.

This development of research aimed to produce the sets of PhET-assisted guided inquiry learning materials to increase students' critical thinking skills are feasible (valid, practical and efficient) for using in teaching and learning process on dynamic electricity in junior high school. To achieve these objectives, the researcher developed  learning materials that contain: Lesson Plan, Student Activity Sheet, Instructional Materials and an instrument to measure critical thinking skill, the 4-D model had been used to develop these materials. They had been validated, revised, and tested to 30 students of IX grade of junior high school 6 muaro jambi using one group pretest-posttest design. Student’s critical thinking skill improved by high category. Based on this research result, it can be concluded that the PhET-assisted guided inquiry learning on Dinamycs Electricity is feasible to increase the improvement of student’s critical thinking skill.  Penelitian pengembangan ini bertujuan untuk menghasilkan perangkat pembelajaran inkuiri terbimbing berbantuan PhET untuk meningkatkan keterampilan berpikir kritis siswa yang layak (valid, praktis dan efektif) digunakan dalam proses belajar mengajar pada materi listrik dinamis di SMP. Untuk mencapai tujuan tersebut, peneliti mengembangkan perangkat pembelajaran yang terdiri atas Rencana Pelaksanaan Pembelajaran, Lembar Kegiatan Siswa, Bahan Ajar Siswa dan Tes Hasil Belajar Keterampilan Berpikir Kritis dengan menggunakan model pengembangan 4-D. Perangkat hasil pengembangan yang telah divalidasi dan direvisi, kemudian diujicobakan pada 30 orang siswa kelas IX SMPN 6 Muaro Jambi dengan menggunakan rancangan One Group Pretest-Posttest. Keterampilan berpikir kritis siswa menunjukkan peningkatan dengan kategori tinggi. Berdasarkan data hasil penelitian, maka dapat disimpulkan bahwa perangkat pembelajaran inkuiri terbimbing berbantuan PhET pada materi Listrik Dinamis layak digunakan untuk meningkatkan keterampilan berpikir kritis siswa.

This study was aimed at describing the link between the second year students’ critical thinking skill and their argumentative writing skill at Islamic Senior High School in Palembang, South Sumatera, Indonesia. There were 60 students participated in this study. The data were obtained by using two instruments: Cornell Critical Thinking Test (CCTT) and argumentative writing test. Pearson Product Moment Correlation Coefficient and regression analysis were used to analyze the data. From the result, statistically significant positive link between students’ critical thinking skill and their argumentative writing skill was found with correlation coefficient .695, and the p-value was (.000) lower than significance value (.000 < .005). Since there was a significant link, regression analysis was used. As the result, critical thinking skill had 48.4% contribution to the students’ argumentative writing skill. In short, critical thinking skill had relationship with argumentative writing skill, and it gave 48.4 % constribution to the students’ argumentative writing skill.
